I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, the movie Wise Guys with Danny Devito, Joe Piscopo and the late great Capt Lou Albano aka "Freddy the Fixer". My license plate on my FWB actually reads "FIXR" as an homage to the Fixer.

2 GREAT Cadillacs in that Movie. Mob Boss Fank Costello's FWB that gets Blown UP in the infamous "start the car" scene and of course Frankie the Fixer's white 59 convertible that gets painted pink then WRECKED along the NJ turnpike but miraculously appears white and PERFECT in the last scene!!

Anybody on this forum that HAS NOT seen Wise Guys should be ashamed!!!

I finally got her looking all pretty and now the past couple of days the tranny seems to be sluggish from a dead stop only when she's cold??

I'll put her in gear and it takes off but hesitates like hell for a few seconds before kicking into 2nd....then it shifts just fine. It seems to be only when it's cold because it fine after warm up.

I checked the tranny fluid and it's at the correct level but a little dirty.

My tech says to try changing the fluid, gasket and filter and that might be all....I hope. It's only got 55k on it.

Any similar issues out there??

Have asked the question before to all of you and after much research in installing this on my 94 F wood, Difference beteen the concept on my F wood & my Roadmaster Buick, The Cadilliac, uses a plc instead of a relay, plc being the CCM, Also on the buick had to sub out the harness for the twighlight sentinal , the new one had connections for the dropping Diode, but do not see this connection in the loom on my cadilliac. Any ideas! trying To get this concept on my car without usung a jobber add on to accomplish this. Also Have access to a 96 in the wrecking yard( it went too early 96,000 miles on it& a gold key one at that!), that CCM in it should have the option on it for DRL's( CANADIAN FEATURE)!? Also if i take this ccm should i get the car keys & detach it a particular way to avoid messing it up? but in the end The wiring Question for the Dropping Diode, need help!

Hey fellas,

You're resident overcaffeinated madman here with a bit of a question.

I recently pulled the demolished vinyl top off my '75 Coupe DeVille, as I'm at that near end stage of her restoration (the last bit of body work to be done is the roof). Question is, since the vinyl tucks into the side windows on a CDV, what is the PROPER removal and reinstallation procedure, as it isn't stated in any of the Chilton's, Haynes' or factory service manuals I have. I'm thinking that since I have to reupholster the car (doing it myself on the days when the weather's too bad to do body work), if I might have to just take the interior completely apart to get them out?

If I have to do the latter, then I'll just recondition ALL of the interior parts then. Thanks guys, you're all great!

P.S. My buddy told me that he thought this project has turned into something I never expected, but the truth is, since the car belonged to another good friend (it was his dad's car, but his mom got terminally sick and could no longer fix her), I feel almost obligated to get her ready so they can see her done as a family. Just my 2 cents. :bouncy:

I'm in the beginning stages of making plans for my next car, a classic caddy as a dd. I plan on swapping in a duramax, along with the brake system out of a caprice or something along those lines (whatever's the best bang for the buck). At any rate, I'm trying to spend 20 or less plus the proceeds of selling my Pontiac. And I'm not sure whether I'm best off going with completely refurbishing a beater, getting something in decent condition or going for a later model. After looking online it appears that you can get a rebuilt 390 for roughly $3,500. Could I expect this for an engine that hasn't been rebuilt but runs well? Also, how much can I expect to get for a transmission in very good condition? I was guessing $1,500, but obviously I have no idea.

My power antenna is broken and since I hardly use the radio, I thought I'd do a quick and easy fix and just attach a long piece of wire to where the antenna is connected and attach it along the edge of the engine compartment.
Does anyone know if it's possible to disconnect the wire that connects the antenna to the radio, under the hood? (connector pictured below)
It works great if I touch the wire to the tip of the antenna, but I don't want a wire coming out of the hood into the antenna hole.

Being a new cadillac owner, I was not familiar with "climate control" and routinely turned my air/heat on and off. I ALWAYS had issues with the temperature adjustment buttons not responding when pressed. The car previously belonged to a heavy smoker and the tar build-up was evident so I blamed all issues on that. However, the display just went blank and I have NO air or heat whatsoever. A replacement ECC unit from the junkyard failed to power up also. I'd love to think it's just a fuse but couldn't find the proper one. HELP! What's my next step?

My digital dash (cluster) just completely went out. I need to have it fixed ASAP. I have two routes (that I know of) that I can take.

1. Remove it and send it to this guy on EBAY which services clusters of all kind of cars and has a good rating. It will cost $100 dollars with lifetime warranty.

2. Order another one from Ebay, from another guy, who says it works and is 169k old for $72 dollars.

What yal think?

I just received my FSM and should be able to remove and replace it. Does anyone know how difficult the process may be removing and replacing the cluster?

Hey guys. Havent posted in the RWD section since my return a few weeks ago. Mainly because up until this past week, i hadnt really been thinking about Rachel. She's been in my buddy's backyard since April...rotting. I kind of forgot about her :(.

Last week he texted me and said i had to move my car. I promised him it would be gone this week. And then that got me thinking. The only real mechanical problem it had was that the radiator was plugged and rusty. The rest was purely cosmetic...especially after i started to dismantle it to start the body work...over a year ago.

Anyhoo. It kind of lit a fire under my ass and im going to get her back on the street. I pulled the radiator today and attempted to get a replacement at the local LKQ, but i made the mistake of getting one from a 307...which has different tranny cooling lines. Lame. So now i have to either try to flush the one i have... Or get a new one...for $209. Either way, im going to do it. Then after that - to get it roadworthy - i need a complete front end, which i know i can acquire fairly easily.

The car looks much worse than it actually is. I mean, the A/C was ice cold when i parked it and it purred like a kitten. It has rust on the A-pillars and on the drivers side quarter panel where the vinyl top met the metal, and where Cadillac decided to use body filler under the vinyl top...FROM THE FACTORY. Idiots. Ehh. It needs a windshield and all of the trim that goes with it. A hood. A trunk. And i need to sand off the graffiti. It could use a very extensive and thorough interior detailing too. I figure i can get a blown donor car for around $400 and have Rachel right as rain. I mean, all she really needs is cosmetic stuff. That damn HT4100 still runs strong, minus the radiator issue. And no, its not a head gasket or water pump.

Still has only 88k miles and is still 1 of 393 :D

I will keep you posted on her progress. My goals as of now are simple and are to just make her roadworthy again. Thats all im putting on my plate for now. SHE WILL LIVE AGAIN!

Oh, and just when i thought i had found an HT4100 equipped Cadillac to snag a radiator from, i found this:

An '83 Coupe DeVille DIESEL. I mean, really? Just my luck. :banghead:

It was behind the fence, so i couldnt get a closeup of the diesel emblem, but you can kind of see it:

Okay, so I was on I-4 the other night and as I rolled along (speed limit is 65) in my Hearse (1987 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham) my COOLANT TEMP light went on. Uh oh, says I as I slow...and within a second it went off. I had a LONG way ahead of me and made it home driving under 60 and no problems. When I opened the hood there was a bit of coolant spilled around the reservoir, no big deal, just find the source of the miniature overheat...

Here's what I found. The two hoses that run from my plastic overfill reservoir. The first hose runs straight to the Radiator, directly beneath the cap. The other hose...was just loose...

So where does it go? I looked and looked, but it's dark out and I figured I could wait until morning. I'm not dripping any fluids out...

Seriously...Where does it go? This would be a VERY SIMPLE FIX, but my Haynes repair guide says nothing about any of it. In fact, it doesn't even mention the hoses at all. Once I find where it goes, I believe I'll be fine.

I'd post photos, but even though I have been a member here for a year now, the website does not allow me to post images or leave links to images...

The only things that needs attention so far is the power atenna (broke in two) and the underhood light doesn't come on. Also daytime driving lights may or may not be working. Need to take out and check that out. Son is really anxious to drive the caddy but I'm waiting to get paid to get registration. I look forward to helping him get this car back on the road.

All,
Strange one this. I intended to replace the fuel filter on the standard Q Jet carb on my 77 deVille and found that I have the wrong one.
It's the type that slides in behind the large nut on the carb.

It seems I have the right bore - 3/4 inch bore - but the wrong length. The one I have is Purolator part number F10158, with another number 456876 on the packet.
Howwever it seems to be twice as long as I need. The repalcement is 2 inches long and I need it to be 1 inch long. Not sure what teh replacement part number is to order a new one and can't find out!
Hopefully someone here knows.

best regards & thanks, Nick

Guys,
I need a new oil prssure switch on the 94 Fleetwood's LT1 engine. I'm not sure which one I need - difficult to see so far down there on the side of the block so I ordered the two I thought it would be - part # Ac Delco 508 D 8143 1/4 inch thread 3 wire fitting or AC Delco 508 D 1849 1/8th inch thread but neither turns out to be the one I need.
Apparrently the oil pressure switch has a large (nearly 3 inch) bell on the end and a single wire fitting. What is this item and part number please?

The switch is leaking out of the wire end and causing false triggers of the orange oil level low light on the dash.

regards & thanks, Nick

My old 1964 Cadillac's Carburetor is starting to go out and it's taking abysmal gas mileage with it.

As such I have 3 options:

Rebuild it

Buy a NOS one (an original thats never been used)

Or buy an Edelbrock one thats a 4 barrel (I wouldn't normally consider this but I've heard they may help me squeeze a few MPG out of her)

Should I stick with the old carter carb or go anew?

On my side of town, it is practically impossible to find a parking spot on saturday nights...

I found one on the side of my block and squeezed my car into it even tho it had a layer of leaves on the street....

I walk away andthe next moring I come out...

My car is absolutely destroyed.

And there is a cop car behind it apparently waiting for the owner.

It was me.

They didnt come to my house and let me know what happened because the car is in my parents names and they live on another part of town. The officer told me that the firefighters said the fire started from the leaves I parked on.

I talked to neighbors and they said there was an explosion and my car was an inferno. They said it took two firetrucks watertanks and that the firefighters had to use more water from a hydrant to finally put it out. I guess it happened at about 11:30 last night. I never heard a thing.

Pretty self explanatory. Three days after my mechanic said the car was fine, it won't start. I ran the OBD and got code 54, which wont clear from the OBD.
Code 54 is "Fuel Pump Relay"

I switched the Fuel Pump Relay out with the horn relay, which is of the same specs, and nothing changes. I checked the Fuel Pump fuse, the injector fuse and ignition fuses, and they are all good.

Per the DSM, I verified that the fuel pump comes on for 2 seconds when the ignition is turned. It does come on, as specified. I attempted to verify that the injectors are spraying fuel when the engine cranks, which they do not. I used a test light to verify that the injectors have power on terminal A when the ignition is on, which they do. I switched out the oil pressure switch with a new one, and verified that there is voltage there when ignition is on (Oil pressure light on dash functions properly.)

The fuel pump is new, and the sending unit and the fuel filter. But my guess is, either there is something not connected or a short, OR the fuel pump is just plain bad. I suppose I might not be getting any spark, but the only code I am getting with the OBD is code 54 in parameter -01.

Any lights would be helpful. I have to call tomorrow and try to get it towed to my mechanic. I'm supposed to be going to Louisville to put a down payment on an apartment, but looks like I will have to wait.

I have an 84 Olds 98, Coupe that I've owned and driven for a long time.

I drove it until the 307 barely moved anymore, and put an olds 350 in it.

It's become time to let the car go. I'm going to put the engine and transmission in my 81 coupe deville, since they only have approx 18K miles on them.

I am going to miss this car. I bought it with 41K on the clock, and now it has 278,000 miles.

The rest of the car is going to get scrapped, except for a very few parts.

Everything works, but they body is getting really rusty.

Hopefully the Moderator won't send me packing for putting this message in this forum, but I wanted to make parts available to anyone who might be able to use them, rather than just junking the whole thing. There are not really any active Oldsmobile forums anymore, that I'm aware of.

Many parts would fit in the 80-92 Cadillac, they were pretty much the same chassis.

The interior is nearly mint. It's brown cloth. The seats are in great shape, and the dash is in great shape. It has the rallye gauge package.

I won't get into great details here, but if anyone could use some parts, send me a message. I'd be happy to email or post pictures of anything someone might be interested in.

I'm not looking to make a killing on parts, this car doesn't really owe me a thing. I'd just rather see as little of it get crushed as possible.

I have a 1991 Cadillac Brougham with 78000 miles on it.

Over the past six months the climate control would occasionally get stuck and the off button would not function.

A couple of days ago the problem worsened... the climate control is stuck on auto, the raise temperature button and the off button do not work. Also the battery is being continuously drained when the vehicle is turned off.

1. Does the climate control unit need to be replaced? If so where is a good place near Richmond, VA to get this fixed.

2. Would a malfunctioning climate control cause the battery to drain rapidly.
----------------------------------------
Another problem that may or may not be contributing to the battery draining is the factory stereo system. The radio functions but there is a severe connection problem between the radio and all four speakers.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Guys,
Quick question - I'm pretty sure I need a new p/s pump - the steering jerks at close to full lock at low revs when manouvering so I think it is on its way out (max stress on the pump, lowest revs available to turn it).

I've got a pump but was thinking on replacing the pulley as well since there is a possibility it is slipping on the shaft (it did this on my 93 FWB about 8 months ago - was rattling round!) but I can't find a new one at Rock Auto so I'm concerned if they are available. (I got all my other stuff there and they seems to stock most all available service items)

Looking at the pic of the pump is the centre of the driveshaft for the pulley hexagonal or has it got a keyway?

I can't remember how the pulley fits on and I left it at the shop on Friday. - I took one look at where the p/s pump was and thought 'that's a more difficult job than on the '93 and I've got to go away for 3 weeks so they can do it while I'm away'.

Does anyone know hte full story please - base LT1 engine stuff I hope!

regards & thanks as always,
Nick

So after the 472-500 swap I did on my 68 SDV it has a little bit of trouble starting. I have a fuse/distribution block off the battery and from there it splits off and I have 4ga. wire to the starter, alternator and then a few pieces of 8ga to the misc. cabin power source's. In this fuse/distribution block, there is a 250a fuse.

My problem is when I try to start the new 500 it turns over pretty slow and sometimes blows that fuse. The starter was about 1 month old on the 472 and was a new starter when I installed it on that motor.

I think its having a hard time turning over the 500 for some reason and its pulling too much current and popping the fuse.

anyone have a suggestion?

In the 5.7, it will throw a code 43 after driving for 20 min or so. This is an electronic spark control circuit code. It reads from the knock sensor, a ground, ECM, ESC module and ignition. These all seem to be in working order. I have even unplugged the knock sensor and still get the code after a 20 min drive. What seems to be related is that the voltage readout on the climate control jumps from the high 12s to low 14s several times a minute. The engine runs okay at idle but the lights blink when I hit the brakes. Any ideas what this could be? The service manual says I need a scan tool(not a code reader) but I dont have access to one.

Ok, so I had my fuel pump replaced in September. Recently, the car started needing to be cranked more and more to start, especially if I have driven it and let it sit 20-30 minutes. Now, it starts, revs normally, then when it comes down to idle, runs very low and rough, then stalls. I have to keep cranking and cranking and finally with my foot on the throttle partway, I can keep it running. I had the new fuel pump and pressure checked, and he said it is all kosher there. He recommended getting the injectors changed, but I wondered what y'all might have to say. The motor was rebuilt in March.

Also, the "Washer Fluid" light comes on at high speed (75-80 MPH). It doesn't come on bright, just kind of dull and gets brighter and more dull. All fluids seems to be circulating, and no other lights come on.

When I first got the car, I wanted the steering to be a little tighter, so I asked my mechanic if he could do that. He said it was an easy adjustment on the steering box, and did it for me. WHile now, after Ive replaced alot of components, and tires, its too sensitive for my tastes. if I turn the wheel ever so slightly in either direction, it goes in that direction immediately, so It can be tough to keep the car driving straight with natural steering wheel movement. Is there something I can do that will ease up the sensitivity, and allow me to move the wheel slightly without the car immediately going in those directions?

I know what each code means but have no idea how to fix them.Code 29 (Shorted fourth gear circuit), and code 52 Iam not sure. My car turns on on the first turn of the key. It drive well all except for a slight hesitation when running about 30 mph, as I increase acceleration it jolts in the next gear. Also the Rpms revs until it changes gears. I love my car so much, i need to get her well. Please anyone help a fellow caddy lover. Thanks

I searched this forum/ looked in the FAQ section above and cannot find a answer to my question. My car is a 1984 coupe deville. I have a service soon light on but cannot pull any codes to try to figure out what is going on. I've tried a obd1 scanner tool which says it cannot connect to car, have jumped the 2 pins on the connector which just turns on a solid service now light (no flashes at all) and have tried through the climate control with no luck.

I've tried a different engine ecu which came out of a perfectly running car with no change. Anything else I should look for to fix my obd problem? Thank you in advance.

Also if I stomp on the gas I can here the overdrive try to kick in (rev-ing engine noise "rev rev rev rev") but wont kick in at all.

Hey Jay, I'm not looking at repeating my last threads, just looking to see what feedback I get here! As previously posted on Impala SS Forum:

Somebody give me some hope on trying to fix this car. Here's the story. I had been looking for a 93-96 Fleetwood all around Orange County and Los Angeles. I finally found one with leather tan interior the way I wanted and a black paint. The radio didn't work and the top needs work but it didn't matter and I agreed on purchasing it for 3k, made by weekly payments of $500. Well, I failed to pay registration and I still haven't (I don't even want to think of the lates fees) due to the reason that it failed two smog checks, weeks after I brought it home.

Again I thought nothing of it as It could be something as simple as replacing the EGR, O2 Sensors or cat converters. Well then the transmission started slipping at 25mph. I have yet to take it to the shop for a diagnostics as I am short on money, on unemployment actually. And now, the inside windshield keeps fogging up and when I looked under the hood I saw tiny drops of coolant on top of the coolant reservoir. Among those issues, the pass key fault keeps going on, yet it isn't a major problem, back right window rolling down crooked and the level ride not adjusting the back height. And to top all that off, the car has a salvage title and the owner is always "too busy" to be on the phone. I live in Garden Grove, California. Orange County, if anybody knows any reliable shops or people. I might be making it worse by not being much of a mechanic myself but this is my true first car and I only know what I've learned so far on the internet, on forums such as these. I once thought the trunk motor needed replacing but it turned out to be a burnt fuse. Here are some pictures, of when I first got it in May of this year.

I like to think that it may seem hard at the moment as I am out of a job and this is my only car and got an ok car for the price.

Like many of you, I am tired of looking at that dead hole in the dash-console, where they used to put the Trip Computer. Today I found a Trip Computer/ Fuel Data display "laying" in a upull-it yard, and I'm wondering what I can do with it. I don't want to just fill the hole, I want the display to function, but how? Is there anyway to get fuel data from the 307?

Because that probably won't work (or else Cadillac would have done it), I was thinking about gutting the display. Would it be possible to wire it in to a coolant temp sensor and/or an oil pressure sensor? If it is, how would I go about doing it? Would I be able to get the digital part of the display to work without the computer commanding it?

What else can I do with it?

This is so annoying, everytime I make a freakin turn it comes on and my gas pedal pops up. Its usually brief. But yesterday, it almost locked my brakes and made my tires screech! So embarrassing. (Girlfriend was in car and we were arguing, gave her ammunition).
Also, my dashboard lights go out sometimes, like completely out and sometimes they dim. I have to slap the top of it to get it back on. Crapola.

howe do i remove these motors? do i have to takeout all the window gears and rails? also, does anyone know what the emergency switch does next to my window switches. besides my four windows i have another switch that can be on either (from left to right) emergency normal or lock. i dont think the switch works but im sure lock is where only the driver can control the window, (i think?) and normal, nothing. but emergency i dont know. so i guess i should know what it does if im trying to get it to work. also after taking off my drivers side door panel i noticed sum hoses that when to this little container against the inside part of the door that aligns in the door jam when closed. the hoses are cut, the thing looks stock. why is there hoses in my door? hope another 67 person has gone through this too. thanks for all the help

Hey, I have to get your opinion on something. Well, to begin with, I am only 16 years old. Only about $600 in the bank, no job currently, but applied for many places. Let's cut to the chase.

My step-mother handed down a 2003 Honda Pilot to me for my first car, but only because she was receiving a new car. I have ALWAYS loved old cars, and upon searching Craigslist, I found the car I wanted. It was a 1973 Cadillac El Dorado convertible. I stayed in contact with him, but he mysteriously took down the offer. So, I continued searching, and currently I am interested in a 1969 Cadillac Coupe DeVille convertible. Now, my brother and his friends keep telling me that I should stay with the Honda Pilot. But, I just am in love with the old cadillacs! I find myself constantly looking at pictures and videos, you see I'm on these forums, and even my desktop background is a Cadillac Coupe DeVille.

But, anyhow, they tell me not to get it because the Pilot is a nice SUV, and that if I have any problems with the 69 Caddy then the parts will be really expensive and they tell me how bad the gas will be. But, if I get a part time job, the gas will be not a problem, seeing as I can get the money in one days of work. I see no problem in the parts, either, because after reading these forums everyone states how Cadillacs almost never fail.

Summary: Family and friends telling me 69 Cadillac will be too expensive to take care of, but I am in love with the car. Is it practical for a kid of 16 years of age to be driving around a car like this?

Thanks a lot! I really hope you read this! :D

I just inherited my mothers 96 Cad w 45,000 miles which sat in her garage for a long time. My wife and I drive it only on Sunday's. After my first 1000 miles on it, the AC compressor failed. Had it replaced. Mechanic said it through a lot of trash but flushed it good and often before putting on new compressor. Now the heater is not working. Fans blow but know heat. Faint heat near the duct can be felt when fans are off. Engine comes up to temp but only one of the heater hoses going into the firewall warms up - the other one remains cool. The engine does not overheat when driving. Coolant level OK. Any direction here would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hey guys

So last time I drove the car it ran like a champ. 3 days later (today) I started up and it idle really badly. After 3 or 4 mins of idling it starting idling like normal. Really smoth. So I leave my house and less then a mile away at a stop sign the car dies on me. I then start it up and drive it home. I start it again an hr later and it is idling bad again. I go to drive it down the street and it dies less then a mile down the road. When it died the car was just coasting at about 10 MPH. Seems to die when im not pushing on the gas. Also wile I have it idling in park I will give it gas but when I let off the car will start to sputter and almost die or just die…

Recently I changed the fuel filter and it passed smog last weekend…

People have suggested it could be the fuel pump or the cat is clogged. Any other opinions before I start going down the list…

Thanx!

When I put the switch to the 'off' position, the wipers just keep going, but on the high setting. If I put the switch back to the 'delay' setting, they operate normally, but then again, will not shut off once I turn them off.
This will stop if I turn the engine off. Once I start the car (with the wiper switch in the off setting) the wipers will turn off.

I have a 1995 Fleetwood that I bought off my dad and want a different set of wheels other than what came stock. What interchanges? I have Impala SS suspension installed already and will need something that will work with the lower ride height. I'm open to all size wheels.

Also, the car is going to need an alignment. Would it be better to have the car aligned using Impala SS specs?
Thanks for any help.

So I got some exhaust manifold gaskets for my '69 but there's a problem...

The bolt heads are warped or something because we can't get a wrench or socket to fit on them. We've tried a 13, too tight. 14, too loose...tried some various standard sizes too and none fit...

The only option I can think of doing is pulling the engine so I can get a vice grip on them or something. Any other suggestions?

Hey, new to these forums. It looks very nice, have been reading some threads!

But, anyhow, on topic, I am about to purchase either a 1969 or 1970 cadillac DeVille. I cannot decide which one to choose, so hopefully you all would help!

My situation is like this: I received a Pilot passed on from my step-mother, and now the title is under my name. My parents said I could do anything with it, and since I am in love with old cars, preferably cadillacs, I have decided to purchase one.

I was searching Craigslist and found a 1970 Cadillac Deville Sedan. I was pretty bought on this, considering it had rims attached, the low price, and only 50k miles. I have been e-mailing this guy, but he rarely ever messages back. The only real accessories are the 22" rims he has on it. It had bright red interior, so I knew that wouldn't fly, so I was planning on changing that. Also, there isn't a CD player in this, whatsoever. This was all for $7,000. No pictures for this one, because he took down the craiglist ad. But exterior was shiny beige color, and interior was bright red.

The second choice is a 1969 Cadillac Coupe Deville I came across today. It is a convertible, so I knew I would like it after I saw that convertible El Dorado I was trying to get a few months back. It already has a sound system in it. I was wondering though, does a Coupe Deville have sufficient space in the backseat for comfort? The color code on this is fine, although I was planning on going black, anyhow. He had rims on it, but said he put the stock wheels back on it. He said he put a new engine in it, and only 2,000 miles were on the new engine. This is all for $8,000.

Sorry for such a long post, just trying to stay as detailed as possible!

Thanks!

Whats going on guys? I Need a little help. In my 93 FWB, I will set the heat on "Fan HI-Auto" and I never feel anything come out of the driver/passenger vents. The A/C works fine and air comes out the the vents, but not for the heat. It will blast out of the dashboard vent perfectly, but no other vents. Even though it actually does a good job heating the whole car this way, I still want to know if this normal. My 86 FWB did the same thing. Thanks for any input.

From reading up the Walker Dynomax 17749's boxes seem best favoured. But at 20 inches long, 10 wide and 4 and a half deep will the fit? It seems the originals were 18 inches long.
Thanks all!

In a nut shell, the Phaeton is being a pain - again.

Here's what's going on. I left it parked for about a month due to lack of time to drive it, finally got it back out and running about four days ago. First day the trans acted normal, second day it felt like it was hunting for the gears a little too much, especially around 15 mph. Third day it would shudder while shifting under moderate/heave acceleration. Fourth day shifting is a chore. Heavy vibration/slipping while shifting into 2nd, almost undrivable.

It has had a leak for the last two years. It has been to three different shops, all of who claimed to replace seals, and it still leaks just the same. Thinking it's the rear main seal, as it leaks less with the nose down hill. When I started it this time, I had to jump it and let it run in park for a while about 1 qt low on fluid until I could check it and top off.

Never had a shifting issue before, and Ideas? The trans fluid is always fresh, because I have to add a cup every week... isn't it lovely?

Advice would be great, I'm moving this week and having a little trouble dealing. :crybaby:

Thanks,

Ben

As stated in the title I'm having serious issues with my climate control on my 1984 Coupe Deville. It started when I heard a clicking sound underneath the passenger side of the dash almost like a relay clicking on and off. That day I when I went to turn the car off I noticed the heater fan didn't turn off so I had to manually unplug it from underneath the hood.

Since this has happened I have been plugging the fan in when I drive and unplug it when I park the car. I did notice the heat seems to be always on full, both temp and speed as it seems the controls are no longer controlling the system with the exception of the 2 defrost buttons. I tried a different controller from another car but it did not fix the problem.

I got under the dash and looks like everything is plugged in but did notice it sounds like there is some kind of motor constantly turning somewhere in that area when the key is on.

Has anyone had this problem or know what I should be looking for to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated as its getting colder outside and having working heat would be great!!!

I've mentioned mom's car a few times, so it is probably time that the car gets its own post.

My father bought it when he was diagnosed with cancer, he had always dreamed of having a Caddy while driving Chevys. He bought it from a pilot that had purchased it in FL and driven it back to Ottawa. It was mint, and still is. Never seen a flake of snow in its entire life. Treated to regular oil changes, no full throttle acceleration, etc. After dad died, mom was driving it. Started it up one day, and it sounded like someone was trying to knock down a bank vault door with a sledgehammer. I had never heard rod knock before, and I don't want to hear it again. The car was so mint, she didn't want to let it go. That, and the big sentimental value. So, she drove it down to the Cadillac dealer, and told them to put a new engine in it. You don't want to know how much it cost. I have taken very good care of it, and it continues to be reliable. She just got back from a road trip with it, and it performed very well. Not bad for a 25 year old car. I need to get her HVAC sorted out (believe it needs a climate display head and/or a programmer) but that is not a big deal.

I posted this in the general discussions a while back and got no hits. There's more action here, so maybe this will work better. Just looking for a name of a good car cover from someone with experience. I need to order one asap. There's not going to be a garage this year or a carport at my house, my wife wants me to sell one of the cars for her college funds, so spending to build is out of the question. I finally got a nice car and am deathly afraid of what the winter is going to do to it. It was garaged it's whole life until now. Anybody use a good brand for outdoor use? (under $300)

My question is did they still put bulbs in there in case the owner added such features later? Do I really have to take the whole light panel apart and install bulbs or is there a better way?

So I am thinking about increasing the stopping power of my brakes on my 1975 fleetwood 75. I am considering Delco 4 piston fixed calipers that came standard on some 1967 and 1968 chevy models including corvette and camaro (i think). Now would this upgrade be a simple swap? Or would it be more complicated?

Would the performance gains be substantial? Also I do know that the bore size of the single piston caliper that came standard for my year is 2.94 inches. What is the total area of the 4 pistons on the fixed caliper?? thanks For reference i have included a pic of each

Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out if I should undercoat my 91 prior to winter. I'm not planning on driving it this winter, and as per my prior post, I don't have indoor storage.
I was planning on taking it out and having it done today, but then I looked up 'undercoating' on google, and there are loads of posts saying it's not necessary.
My car only has two very small (size of a quarter each) bits of rust, one just above the belt line, and one under a door handle. The underside of the car doesn't look bad.
Is undercoating necessary? Jay, you're in Ontario too, do you undercoat your car?

My '82 Deville seems to make a strange humming or whining sound from around 40mph to 55mph. Any speed below or above this I don't hear this. It sounds like it's coming from under the car by the transmission but I might be wrong.

Transmission fluid is nice and red and full. Car shifts fine.

The car's engine and trans has been swapped to an Olds 307 with a TH200 trans.

I'm a little nervous about this because I don't want to be driving an hear a loud "ping" and the car leaves me stranded again like it did when the HT4100 ate itself....

There also sometimes seems to be a lot of pulsating vibration noises at this speed too.

Thanks.

Hi all!
Got a fist size hole blown in the top of the left hand muffler. A bit annoying since its only been on there about a year. They were a pair of Thrush Turbo mufflers I've had in the attic since the nineties and thought I'd throw them on when the originals went poop.
It's a bit (very) loud at present but I like it :D and goes like hell with the hole in the muffler and the traction control switched off. Transforms the car.
Was making me thinking how restrictive the stock system is.

So modified guys, what low restriction exhaust would you replace it with but still keeping it quiet and keeping the back boxes with the stock turndowns.
Would you still keep the stock 2 inch dual pipes or go bigger?

I still want it to sound quiet like a Caddy when cruising since I rent it out for weddings, proms etc here in Ireland but when I'm on my own I want to open it up and have some fun from that LT1.
Thanks all
regards, Nick

This is the result of an encounter with a deer. Insurance company wants to declare car a total loss. To them maybe it is, to me it is not. How do I proceed? I do not intend on junking this car, neither I am willing to accept book value.

The body shop estimate was just shy of $4000. Quite frankly some of the items that they want to replace does not need to be replaced IMO. For example the bumper, and some of the chrome trim. They quoted some obscene amount for paint/refinish but the only colored piece that was damaged is the bumper filler. The fender, I do not think has to be replaced but the guy insisted on putting it on the estimate. What should I do?

I'm planning to add a 1996 Brougham/Impala SS LT1 drivetrain to my RWD 2 door Brougham. Is this the most affortable drivetrain to update my old 4.1L engine? Lt1 drive train includes engine, tranny and differential. Can I install an LS1 or LS2 drivetrain. What other GM drivetrain can I install to my 83 caddy. I have a 1996 Impala SS and my mechanic ,who specializes in LT1 motors
(9C1, caprice, impalas, roadmaster from 94-96) said this is the best and affortable drivetrain to install. He said the camaros corvettes firebirds with the LT1 or LT4 have a different cam and might not give it the quickness and torque needed to move the Caddy. Can anyone help me here. LOVE the way my Impala SS moves with all the basic and common bolt ons added. Wish my 83 Brougham coupe moved and responded like my LT1. Thanks

how do i take these off i only see a couple scres around the interior door handle and i dont wana just rip it off if theres any other hidden ones. is there just a bunch of clips?

also, where were the stock speakers located?, i found two, what looks like 6 by 9s in the back, , nothing on the doors, my radio doesnt work but when i try to turn it on i thnk i hear static coming from the dash, is there a speaker in there too?

another thing is on my dash , almost right behind the top of the steering wheel, i have this cutout which had a plastic vent on it that snapped off, it doesnt seem to be connected to any a/c,heating system because i dont see a hole, just this strange metal wire. is it for a litght or something? its my cellphone holder now :D

and one more question, know where i can find any shop manuals for my car? that might help me in simple things and specs about my 67?

Hi all,
Took the '94 Fleetwood down to the shop today for some winter love - oil change, coolant change, that sort of thing.
I smelt coolant last week when running it and then saw steam on the left side of the engine block. Suspecting a core plug rather than a head gasket I parked it up and took it in for professsional assesment. Car runs fine with no issues so I guess not HGF.

I've also had an intermittent traction & ABS light come on. I suspect it was from when I got caught in a puddle the other week and a huuuge amount of water went up under the left side. I'm thinking it has dislodged the wiring/ sensor that is common to the ABS and traciton control on the left rear wheel. Is only an intermittent problem when it is raining hard and I go over 40-50mph. What do you all think?

I also have another issue bugging me - the small nozzle feeding the washer tube to the windshield wiper has fractured sending screenwash sideways across the car. It seems to have been split with stress from the rubber tube pulling on it (maybe the rubber tube is too short). Where can I get a new one do you think?

regards, Nick
