Hi,

I have this issue with our 01 Deville DTS...when I shift into Drive I feel the car slightly jumping every couple seconds. Doesnt matter if the engine is cold or warms up, it happens all the time when the car is at a stand still in Drive?

...It feels like the engine is every so slightly jumping causing the car to jump every other second....but when driving the engine and car is smooth as butter.

I have so far cleaned the MAF and throttle body, but the issue is still there.

Anyone have similar problems or ideas?

Thanks,
Tabz

i bought this 2000 base model Deville (my 2nd n* powered caddy) about 5 months ago and have had nothing but problems. it stalls and doesnt wanna idle at a normal rpm. i had a crankshaft position sensor replaced and that only helped for about a week. sometime the rpm's get stuck at around 1500 its like the cruise control is set at 35mph. i think the heater core is about to go. it blows air out of the floor vents when the climate control is off. also the heat is only hot when set to 90 degrees as soon as you put it to 89 its almost cold. iv had 2 wheel bearing replaced. also the car leaks like a sivv iv put about 6-8 quarts in since iv had it. everywhere i go there is a puddle of oil and when i stop at lights the thing looks like its on fire. the mechanic says its the rear main seal AND oil pan gasket and he cant even do the rear main because the trans has to come out. does anyone know how much it would be to fix the rear main and oil pan? im really in a shi**y situation here with this car. i financed the car and just lost my job and now have all these problems. it sucks 1 car can ruin all northstar cadillacs for me..

Newbie needs advice: I have a newly purchased '98 Deville with 56K miles.
On a cold start, the car needs a dozen or so cranks before starting, but it does start everytime. Seems to be a flooding problem, ie. strong smell of gas, puff of gray-white smoke. The car then runs out fine, until aftrer sitting at idle for a few minutes and returning to driving speed it boggs as if trying to glup too much gas at once. Also, after driving for a period of time then stopping and turnning of the motor, I can restart with just a touch of the key - no flooding symptoms . Trouble codes P0165H, P0440H, P0463H and P1599H. THAKS for any advice or help you can send.:yup:

My '94 DeVille failed the state emissions test and the shop says that it is due to a bad catalytic converter.

Does this sound logical? Car runs fine and gets good gas mileage. There is no clattering or knocking in the exhaust unless I fill the tank with regular unleaded fuel.

The mileage is 115,000.

If so, does the car have two converters, a front & rear, and if so, which one should I replace or should I replace them both?

I have a 91 sdv that has a slightly sagging rear end. it is most noticeable when I have a full tank of gas. I dont believe that the air compressor is the problem and I dont think there are any air leaks. Does anyone know if this system from strutmasters would help me out?

http://www.strutmasters.com/Deville-...l-60798-cd.htm

And if it would be a better alternative than replacing the rear suspension? Id like to get about 2 inches higher in the rear. Just so the chrome on the wheel well is about the same height as the top of the tire. Thanks

Mileage : 184,XXX
Problem: Just bought the car yesterday.. runs and drives awesome.. The only thing is , the digital cluster is VERY erratic, Speed reads ok .. but the Fuel always Stays on E, strip where the codes are read is flashing, VERY LOW FUEL LEVEL, SERVICE RIDE CONTROL, CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID and a host of other things..i'm thinking that the ICP needs to be replaced?!
I pulled the codes and only came up with one current// P040 which is the suspension-speed regulator or something of that nature.. totally irrelivent is my guess.
ANY HELP HERE?!
If this is the ICP how can i remove it to get the parts number for Junkyard Replacement!?
Thank you in advance CF!

Well after two years of trouble free ownership of my 2003 deville,I have had my first issue.......and it's a big one. On the freeway today I thought I had a window open due to some noise intrusion. Went to roll up all the windows one by one and when I got to the front passenger window it happened.

It made what sounded like a crinkling noise, almost like something had broke inside the door and then fell into tiny pieces to the bottom. At that point I foolishly tried to roll it down, which it did, and then was stuck in a partially open posistion.

Now it will not go up or down, and I had to shove something in the window to keep it in the up posistion. This is obviously a temporary fix and would like to get some ideas from you fine folks as to what this could be.

Is this the dreaded window regulator I have heard so much about? Or could it be something else? Any ideas? Thanks!

Also I need the beauty cover that runs along the top of the radiator (not the one that is on top of the plenum)

Now I have pulled up splash sheilds on GMpartsdirect, but I'm not sure what ones I need, if you could take a look at the link below and help me figure out which ones to order it would be greatly appreciated, for some reason my computer wont let me view the part illustrations.

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm

Also what problems will I face if I run the car without the splash sheild for a couple weeks until I can get the new ones ordered? I live in Arizona so the roads are very dry.

Thank you all in advanced :bouncy:

I know the A/C compressor is working. Before I get in about a 3 day line to get it back in, is there a wire connector near this work that might have gotten unplugged or a fuse blown that I can do myself and avoid the long wait to make them fix whatever they might have done during the repair?

I just replaced the starter in my 1995 Deville concours 4.6L northstar with a ACDelco part. Starter was bench-tested before i installed it and was working fine. Now it just clicks when you turn it to the START position but wont turn engine over at all. Brand new battery is in car with 12.4 volts, new bolts connecting + and - to battery, all connections are clean and shiny, everything is tightened. All the interior lights work, headlights come on bright, radio works, door locks and windows still work. BUT.... I noticed while playing around with the key that while in the ON position, the dashboard lights flickered on/off for about 3 seconds then came back on continuosly. What is my next step to check ??? all help appreciated

So I picked my car up from the dealer after they did my head job, which included installing the timeserts in the block. (98 Deville 4.6 N*)

On my way home, from leaving the dealer and picking up the kids, the battery light came on lights flickered but went away. The next day it did the same thing so thing so I popped the hood and starting looking around and when I pulled the positive battery cable it sparked towards the bottom of the car. grabbed a handy flash light and noticed the battery cable is tight against the alt. and the pulley actually wore through the cable which is why is was sparking and causing my other problems. I disconnected the battery immediatly, tapped the wire up and rerouted in so it wasn't against the alt. any longer. I went back to the dealer where all they did was put some wire loom around the cable... NICE!

Last week I installed some tires on it and when I took the front driver side wheel off there was axle grease everywhere and then I noticed a steel line going through the axle boot. I took it back again and they said that this was an existing problem because when they drop the motor and tranny out of the car they do not tamper with the "tranny" lines ( thats what the service writer called the steel line). They wouldn't repair the axle boot but were nice enough to zip tie the "tranny" lines out of the way.

That day I ended up replacing the whole cv axle because it was only $20 more than just the boot and it was worth that in time to not worry about tearing the old boot off and installing a new boot on the old axle, and then there was a cut in the lower radiator hose so I was leaking coolant everywhere and had to replace that too.

All this happend on a Saturday so the service MGR wasn't in the dealer so Monday morning at 8a.m. I was at the dealer to talk to him and they agreed to refund me for the axle and hose.

Funny thing now is there is a coolant leak somewhere near the intake manifold and they can't find it so they can't fix it and refuse to believe there is a problem.

You do not want to use this Cadillac Dealer for any repairs, it is just North of Orlando in Central Fl.

Any suggestions?

When engine is cold started and high idling is around 1200rpm. There is a high pitched whining noise. The noise goes away after about 15 seconds. And at the same time the idle speed decreases to the normal 700rpm range.. Me pressing on the gas and making the engine idle speed increase to 1200rpm will not duplicate the noise.. The noise only happens when the car is first started and automatically is idling high. It definitely sound like something is spinning, and then when the computer tells the car to end the high idle mode what ever is spinning is also told to stop spinning.

hey all had an issue with my 90 sdv 4.5

i had noticed as the weather started to cool i went to turn the heat on, using auto as usual and it was rather cool, so i searched a few threads, i pulled the glove box and confirmed the rod opening and closing, i replaced the "heater control valve" or rather the T, i had replaced the heater core probably 30k ago, i flushed the coolant and replaced the thermostat before i took it out of town for summer vacation, im at a loss on econ it is hotter than on auto, i know that the compressor comes on at first but it seems to be running the entire time, the lines and the dryer are cold, so i unplugged the pressure switch on the dryer to turn off the compressor and the heat gets significantly warmer, the codes i pulled were e49, and f32...if any one has any suggestions all advice is appreciated...

What does this sensor do and what harm would I do by continuing to drive the car?
Would it be wise to check the wiring first to see if maybe I have a bad connection.
If so, when would the wiring harness and connector be for the transmission on this car?

I revived my '94 Deville from summer storage, since it's my winter car, and the blower motor didn't work. I could hear some electrical popping coming from the general area of the blower motor while inside the car. I figured the blower motor had finally bit the dust after 15 years, so I unplugged it until I could get a replacement.
My replacement arrived today and when I hooked the connector to the blower motor, there was a "pop" from inside the new blower motor housing and a smell of something electrical burning! :crybaby:
I opened the cover of the blower motor to find that one of the transistors had popped and it blew half of the plastic off of it! I'm not an electrical engineer, but somethings not right! I have the factory service manual that I've been trying to figure out, and am not getting very far.
I have checked the ACP codes and all is well, so I'm not sure where to check next. In the meantime I'm going to try and source a new transistor to fix my new blower motor, I hope! :suspense:

Ok, I have a beautiful white 1997 DeVille with 144,xxx miles on the odometer. It runs very well, kind of expensive to maintain but I expected that when I bought it at 98,800 miles.

About six weeks ago, riding around town I found a 1999 DeVille with 44,000 miles.
I knew the previous owner who passed away last year at 93 I think. His daughter wanted to get rid of it. Price was reasonable, I offered a little less and she accepted.

About 1,500 miles down the road I thought I had a wheel problem, felt like right front wheel was loose and about to fall off. I parked it and did whatever business I was out and about to do. When I returned and drove away all was fine for a few miles then it returned.
The next time I drove it I noticed steam out the exhaust, but it was cool out and figured that it was burning off excess moisture. Took my wife to the Doctor’s and on the way home stopped to get her a cup of coffee, didn’t notice coolant temp but when I pulled into my driveway it was at 213. The next time it got to 223 before I could let it cool off. I added about a quart of premixed coolant.

I think that head bolts haven’t pulled but rather an internal breach of the head gasket has occurred. Can I get verification or any other theories ? Thank you.

Edit: Wheel problem now assumed to be one or more cylinders not firing properly due to induction of coolant, this happens concurrently with the opening of the thermostat.

Hello,

'95 DeVille 4.9 leaking P/S fluid on the drivers side. Lines on the passenger side where pump is are okay.

Looked at the rack and all looks well, no apparent leaks. Leak appears to be coming from a line that leaves the rack towards the drivers side then forward, line is rubber then converts to steel. The steel line runs toward the front then into what looks like some sort of cooler. FRom the cooler to the pump. Only leak is under the card on the drivers side forward of the rack about where the P/S line runs beside the transmission case.

I cannot pinpoint the leak but am thinking it may either be where the steele enters the rubber or maybe the steel has chaffed and has a pin hole which leaks under pressure.

Checked archives and found some similarities but nothing concrete. I'd appreciate any direction or suggestion.

Respectfully,

DJ

Neither horn works on my 2000 DeVille.
Troubleshooting steps taken:
1. Horn relay has 12 volts to it. When I press the lock key on my FOB , or
when I push the horn on the steering wheel, I can hear the relay click. So
the fuse should be Ok also.
2. I located the horns, and disconnected the wire harness to each one , a
visual inspection seemed to indicate that the connection was ok.
3. With a volt meter I discovered there was no 12V being supplied to the
horns via the wire harness.

Conclusion: There seems to be an open or other issue thats preventing 12V
to be supplied to the horns.Unless both horns went bad at the
same time

Feedback is appreciated.
Thanx

Pepboys had them for $128.99..
Costco did not even carry them..

Finally made my last stop at Walmart (I don't normally shop there, but I had to check) They have the 79 series battery for $75!!!!! The total after taxes and trading over my old battery came out to around $80. WHAT A STEAL!!!

Just wanted to let you all know.

...and yes it has the vent opening on both sides so you can connect your original rubber hoses up to it. It does not come with a new set of vent tubes/hoses, so keep your old ones.

I've got a '97 DeVille that has started producing a rapid clicking under the dash. It varies from a single click every few minutes to an 11 second run of clicking separated by about a 22 second interval of quiet. It started with no advanced warning. If I move the lever for the twilight sentinel to the off position the noise stops. It sounds like it may be some kind of relay attached to the twilight sentinel. The sentinel works fine and turns the lights on correctly when it gets dark. I don't suspect the photocell or the amplifier since the unit turns on the lights correctly. Any ideas? BK

Good morning everyone,

I'm having a heck of a time figuring out what all is draining (and killing) the battery in my '93 Deville :hmm:. By hooking up a multimeter and pulling the maxi-fuses one at a time I've figured out that, even with the vehicle shut off, there is a still a 2-4 volt current running through the ECM circuit. Since I'm new to being a Cadillac owner I wanted to know if anyone else had experienced a similar power drain and what the final diagnosis was.

Thanks,

:( Well today at 10:10am with 285,576 miles, the cadillac sedan deville died. The headgasket for the second time in its life went out again. Milky oil, white smoke, bubbling resevior tank, and the temp at 116 Celcius / 240 F. This all happen after I put gas in the car. I don't think bad gas would cause all of this and no I didn't put diesel fuel. My options are junk the car, drop another engine in it or get another cadillac. I chose to drop another engine in it. The engine would cost me 255$ from the pick in pull and 555$ to drop it in. I found an engine with 92,000 miles that has everything still intact. But can't get it until 2 more weeks, because I am a college student with not enough funds. I would not mind doing the headgasket my self but I was told that one of the heads was filed down real low when I had it done the first time. So I opted for another engine to be put in. I would get rid of the car if I didn't put so much money in it. Transmission is only one year old, new water pump, timing chain, new fuel injectors, thermostat, new bushing in the front and ball joints, new brakes pads w/ booster and mastercylinder, new struts and wheel hubs, and new a/c. So I can't get rid of it. I'm trying to get the car back on the road before x-mas but if not it will be fixed in january. What gets me still is I always change out the raditor fluid and flush it, how did this happen. I had no temp lights come or service engine lights, and no codes either. Well leave feed back if you like.

My mechanic replaced the air pump and relay. It didn't pass. I drove for awhile and the SES light came on again. Still didn't pass, same code. The engine at start will make the muffled noise for about 20 seconds then shut off, is this normal? I have heard this before but not regularly.
Any suggestions. :banghead:

I am thinking about buying a 1995 Deville. It's a 4.9 car with 107,500 miles on it. When I drove it the ABS light was on and the dash was displaying "Service Ride Control", and "Traction Disabled". I haven't had the chance to drive the car very far because it was very low on gas, but seemed to run very good and the trans was exceptionally smooth. It belongs to friend who has a car lot and said he would have it looked at. Any advice on those issues and was wondering if there is anything that requires a heads-up on these cars?

I have given up.

I said here that I would continue to repair my 99 Deville Concours until I had a brand new Cad, one piece at a time.

Since then, I have spent several more thousands of dollars on repairs to the electrical system, including an alternator failure which left me stranded and using a wrecker service to get the car to the dealer.

Then it started using coolant.
I repaired hoses, etc., here at home until there were NO leaks from the system at all, even under pressure.

Then my daughter's 1998 Deville suffered an accidental air-bag deployment while a mechanic was working on the drivers side window mechanism. The air-bag control module was defective, which turned out to be a factory recall situation, so she took it to the dealer to be repaired.
After several days, she was informed by the dealer that the parts were not available.
That's right, GM says they could NOT SUPPLY the part for her 11 year old Cadilac. And since it is the air-bag deployment module, NO ONE will install a salvaged unit due to liability issues.
But GM said, being the fine company they are, that they would BUY her car.
After a week of calculations, they offered her LESS than the blue book WHOLESALE value for the car.
Not able to afford to do anything about it, she is driving the car without air-bags.

Then I discovered that my 99, WITHOUT puddles under it, was using coolant at a very rapid rate again. The old 'service stability system' error that is a faulty sensor, and the 'clunk clunk' from the front that the dealer cannot identify and repair continued, and the darned thing needed ANOTHER set of tires.
Just then, the Cash For Clunkers program started.
Realizing that the time would come when I can NOT get parts for it - a fact which my daughter had discovered - I drove it to the Nissan dealer. It ran long enough for them to verify it was a serviceable vehicle (a pre-requisit for this program), and they gave me $3500 from the program, $1000 salvage on the Deville body (they destroy the engine and transmission under this program), $1000 for a factory rebate program that was still going on, and my wife dickered them down an additional few hundred dollars on a new Nissan Altima.

Payments on the Altima are BELOW what the repair bills were on the Cad.

So long, guys -
It was good knowing you, and it was good owning a Cad for four years.

Yesterday I had my 2000 DeVille towed to a tire shop to have a flat taken care of. Aside from the tire, everything was fine until the tow driver hauled the car up onto his flatbed.

Now dash display claims that the car is in 3rd, regardless of where the shifter arm is positioned. The result is that the Parking Brakes will not disengage (will not register that I am shifting out of Park) and the ignition will not engage (can not start the car unless in Park)

The car is being looked at today by a shop that my insurance carrier picked out and hopefully they will cover it. I'm really not thrilled by the prospect of my baby being beaten up by a tow truck ...

I am somewhat concerned about having the problem misdiagnosed or returned to me without the proper repair being executed. Anyone have any speculation as to what could have gotten damaged during a tow to create these results?

This seriously blows my mind. :banghead:

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2001 DTS with 138,000 miles. I've noticed though that when I'm starting the car, it kinda feels and sounds like the battery is close to being dead...but the car starts fine.

....It's just when cranking it feels weak like its going to give up...but again it always fires and runs well after a couple seconds of cranking.

The battery voltage on the instrument cluster reads okay and fully charged.

Any suggestions?..maybe the starter is going bad?...or a bad ground or something along those lines?
Best,

hi everyone ime new to the site and i dont know anything about cadys i used the search for the heater core removal and found every other model of cadillac but not mine... so any way i just bought the car 3 weeks ago very nice but the heater core is out leeking inside and fogging up my windows not fun. i pulled the glove box and it looked complicated and i have no idea were to start so any links or a step by step would be great on how to replace it, or the location i have no idea.. also my service a/c light is on but i knew it dident work when i baught it but now its making a pretty bad sound so i was wondering if i could just bypass it with a shorter belt or if i would have to remove it and fashion up some kinda extra pully i know fore sure i dont have the money to spend on a/c work. so ya any help on either problem would be greatly appreciated... again it is a 1989 sedan deville

After finally getting check engine light off my 03' Deville when I replaced front ignition coil pack and getting car running alot better since getting it about 4 months ago; light came on again while on way to church yesterday, stopped for coffee and ran diagnostics got the p0420 code and when I cleared light was off upon restart. Stayed off and then came on again this evening, stopped at kfc, ran DTC"S and got same code, again cleared.

I believe it is a catalyst system low. Does anybody have any ideas about this? Is it something to do with the catalytic converter?
Thanks in advance for any replies/suggestions.

I am looking for a OEM trailer harness for a 2000-2005 Deville it plugs directly into the taillight wiring behind the left trunk carpet panel. This harness came on cars equipped with the "Trailer Provisions" package RPO code V92. I am planning on pulling a light trailer (less than 1000 lbs) occasionally.

It's item #1 in the picture below GM# 12497036 I have tried GMPartsdirect, Lindsey, RockAuto, and several GM Dealers but it's discontinued. Anymore Ideas?

Hey guys. I'm new to posting here mainly just readiing what everyone else has been experencing....

The other day the digital cluster stopped working, The fuel range and hvac still illuminate but not the dic, speed, fuel and odometer dont appear.

This morning my wife was driving to work and the car stalled. I went down there and after pumping the pedal a few times it started right up. I turned the car around and was on way home and while stopped at a light the car stalled and would not start. Good thing was I wasnt far from home, so it was a $50 tow charge. When the sun came up I checked all the fuses and relays. Everything checks out good. The fuel pump doesnt come right on when you turn the key though, and when it does there isnt any pressure, not even air from the valve under the hood. I'm wondering what the relays behind the rear seat are for because when the pump does come on you can here the click from one of the relays there. I haven't checked anything else yet but i'm gonna pull off the fuel filter in the morning and turn the key to see if fuel is getting to the filter. I don't know what else to try aside from the pump itself but its getting power just not at the right time. Any suggestions??

thanks
Shawn

My apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place. Any new Info on converting from analog to digital on the 1991, 1992 & 1993 Deville's? I've had 3 of these and I just can't seem to pick one up with a digital dash. I'd be willing to give it a shot. I have a hoopty Deville to mess around with that might soon be going to the junkyard. Not to worried about messing that one up if something goes wrong. My local salvage yard wants 150 to 200 for that digital cluster. But for 100 to 300 bucks you could look for a whole Deville again "hopefully" with a digital cluster.

The battery was replaced and the chip in the steering column was replaced. I are still having the problems in morning starting the car. It starts after a couple turns of the key in the morning. What seems to be the problem?
My drivers side front brake smells like it is burning and it turns out that it is not releasing all the time. It doesnt pull at all in either direction and the brakes are new. Any suggestions?

Have been experiencing the well documented fuel sensor problem for about 3 months now. More recently the engine just stalls out while under power as if it is running out of fuel. (Tank is full of fuel). So far it has restarted everytime. But I suspect there will come a time when it won't. ie total failure of whatever is failing. My question - could this be related to the sensor problem or a different fuel pump issue. If I have the sensor replaced would it be smart to replace the fuel pump as well?

Hi All! LONG story short... 2000 Deville, C.A. emissions with TWO secondary air injection pumps (unusual from what Im hearing... fought with MANY about this but I HAVE REPLACED THEM BOTH SO I KNOW THEY ARE THERE! My guess is early production model car so GM later figured out that they could get away with ONE pump instead.) Both pumps where melted due to what I found out to be bad air injection valves allowing exhaust to continually flow OUT through the pump housings, melting them. I replaced both pumps with new. Good deal, pumps run great. STILL have exhaust flowing out the inlets after the pump shuts off though. Did a lil troubleshooting and found both valves to be non functional (no change with presense OR lack of vacuum). ALSO the vacuum control solenoid apparantly is doing NOTHING as well. It draws current on the bench, but I hear NO clicking noise or anything so I assume its frozen. I pulled apart the FRONT valve and discovered that apparantly heat over the last 180k miles (yep... she has ALOT) must have done its job to warp the inner housing that the little metal flap seals against, causing the leakage. I assume the rear valve looks the same inside. (Holy CRAP! I DID say long story short didnt I? lol) Also noticed some white residue on the pump outlet that was kinda crusty and smelled like dexcool. Possible head gasket leakage? ANYWAY... here is where I am at. First of all... how the HELL did the ENTIRE system fail. I understand the cascade effect of the pumps melting after the valve malfunction... but the solenoid TOO? I guess that failed FIRST? So I have brand new pumps (not driving the car till I get this all fixed so I dont melt the NEW ones!). I got a price of like 195 for the front valve and 230 for the rear. I HATE the idea of spending money on the EMISSIONS system of a 180k mile car but I gotta get through NJ state inspection and they fail you if the check engine light is on automatically. Im assuming used valves will have the same problem as mine. Does anyone have any suggestions here? On a limited budget to say the least. I could just about afford all the parts if need be but afraid once I fix that I will find out there is something ELSE wrong with the system! (pretty much all replaced by then no? lol)
HELP! Please? Anyone got any old valves in good shape they wanna sell? Thanks!

My point is, how can Cadillac, the Flagship of the GM line build these cars with obvious inferior products and do nothing about it? A 50K car with all these little problems. Is it engineering, suppliers? I guess I just don't get it!
I'd like to see what common problems others have on their 01 Caddy Deville. I have a DTS with 107,000 miles.
Are the new ones any better?
