I am working on a 1984 Coupe Deville with a 4100, rear wheel drive.

The engine oil cooler lines are rotted, the ones that go to the radiator to the engine. Does anyone know where I can obtain some new or good used ones? I tried GM and they do not have any and they searched their database.

Any help is appreciated. I want to get back on the road!

Hi

My 36k mile 1994 DeVille has kinda rough idle, according to the shop manual the only cause of this is clogged injectors.
Not unlikeliy since the PO was 70 when he purchased the car and had it until his passing this spring, I guess only litle trips to the mall has been made.
So the big Q is if the liquid injector cleaners will work, or if another approach must be made?

Regards

I have a 90 model seville with the 4.5 engine. While stopped in traffic I noticed the engine was misotice at highway sing. It misses at idle and low speeds. Do not notice at highway speeds. I have replaced the plugs and wires, added fuel additives, cleaned the os sensors, dist cap. But the miss is still there. All the injectors seem to be working according to the mechanic. However he said it was getting to much fuel. The new plugs are already sooted up as is the o2 sensors. The converter is also getting red hot. I am almost broke and cannot afford to do anymore process of elimination repairs. The only code I am getting is a 0048 or it may have been 0049. I still have the car @ the shop and cant check it. Any help would be great, thanks!!!

I just finished getting my engine back together after having to put two helicoils into my rear head. Now that the engine is back together, when I attempt to start it, it does not turn over. Smoke comes out of my intake throttle body when attempting to start. Any ideas on what my issue may be, ways to troubleshoot, or issues that would cause this type of problem.

I numbered my spark plug wires so they are in the correct order
I did not take the engine out of the car
I was forced to take the distributor apart and put back together
I replaced the water pump
I replaced all gaskets down to the heads
All head bolts, rocker arms were torqued to spec

Any ideas on where I should look or is it best to just take the engine back apart and see if anything broke from when I first attempted to start it? If I take everything apart and nothing is broken, I will be in the same place I'm in now.

I don't know what's the deal with my 87, it runs perfectly fine and it starts up without any hesitation. I figure the noise may be because of a bad cat, but it only make a rattling noise when i accelerate.
Now question is, what could that possibly be?
Someone told me it could because of bad gas, i'm not to sure what the case may be.
But if it is bad gas, where would be the best place to get gas from, I understand it uses regular unleaded fuel.

So please, if anybody know what could be the issue with the rattling,i need help. lol

so I started it up and lifted the EGR valve diaphragm and the car almost stalled which is the expected result according to my haynes book.

But which is the EGR solenoid? Is it the unit on the left in the pic, above the blue sensor connector, with a vac hose running right to the EGR valve? I checked that and it has vacuum to it on the left side. But no vacuum coming out the right side going to the EGR valve. Maybe that is expected.

Anyways, I'm getting cruddy gas mileage so I'm thinking this is all related.

And i have plans for her, but i would like to get some recommendations on what is the best motor oil product, to use on a 4.1 Motor? In another 500 miles, it's gonna be time for an oil change, and i refuse to take it to jiffy lube and put just anything in her.
I also hear that, Amsoil motor oil is the best product to use on an Ht4100.

I replaced the pump a few months back, after several weeks the pulley started slipping off and I lost steering, I got the pulley install tool and pushed it back on, that lasted a few months until today, on the way to work I heard a snap, when I pulled into the parking lot I heard and felt the pulley slip. I got the tool again and cant get the pulley back on. I pushed it on by hand but as soon as i start the car it slips off to the end of the shaft, but not completely off. The car is stuck at work now so it is harder to work on.

I heard that you can install a screw with washers into the pulley to help hold it on, anyone ever try this? I am going to try to get it on tomorrow so I can atleast get it home from work.

Does it sound like I am not getting the pulley on tight enough, or does it sound like something else is messed up?

Hello,

I have oil and thick puffy smoke coming out of my exhaust system... Heads were changed a little over a year and a half ago and the car has been running fine ever since with no issues. I recently got the compressor replaced and started using the a/c. Then the car randomly overheated around 6 months later. I shut the engine off and released the pressure from the radiator and couldn't find any leaks. It started up fine and ran good for about a week afterwards...

I put it in the shop when I got back home (from out of town) (The car sat up for around a week at the airport) before all of the chaos started just for a checkup. Thinking that the water pump circulation levels were low. The upper rad hose that goes to the thermostat would get warm. The lower side hose and tank would always stay empty and cool. The mechanic told me it was running fine and it was just low on fluid... Me being the person I am. I go change the pump, thermostat, & cap.. Total of around 70 bucks and 2 days off an on worth of work, no big deal.

So today I start it up... it cranks fine idling smooth. First time I'd started it all day... texas weather is around 55 degrees. I go less than .5 of a mile and it kills on me. Won't turn over without serious amounts of gas being applied to the pedal too. I get it started back up and moving.. Pull over to the parking lot and there's the gas/oil/antifreeze I guess mixing in the heads causing this HUGE ass cloud of smoke immediately upon start up... The car idles really low at around 400RPM and sounds like it's missing. But it doesn't kill. I let it sit for around 45 minutes.. I get a tow home. Engines cooled down by then. I start it up... No problems with cranking it now, but the thick ass smoke cloud returns...

I know something is mixing in the head and probably getting to the plugs which is why it's blowing out of the exhaust. I need an expert decision on whether or not to keep throwing money into this abyss though.

Only reason why I have this car is because it's my deceased brothers.. It's a project car to me. Fiberglassing a/b pillars, door panels, customer interior etc... I have quite a bit of money tied up into it to keep it running and looking good. I just need to know if it's worth fixing... OR if the mechanic that fixed it the first time even did what he was suppose to do correctly. My cost for new heads would be around 1100, the car has a hair over 143,000 miles on it...

In need of serious advice please anyone!

Thank you for your time.

Also... Is it worth doing a rebuild on these engines? Or would someone just recommend a swap?

My son calls, said the power steering must be empty, can barely turn the wheel, then it just won't start. Weird. I get there, the drive belt is off (so no PSteering or alternator. LOL). Upon more research, the bracket that holds the power steering pump (and I think also holds the belt tensioner) broke. (see pic). Where can I get one of these?

So for the past 6 months to a year, I have had a slight misfire (more of a car jerk at idle speeds) turn into a nasty misfire accompanied by vibration and poor fuel economy. I also get poor acceleration but occasionally, it will run fine. I'd say 1/15 times I drive it. I had a diagnostic done at tires plus and they said my distributor needed to be replaced... well, they said to start with the distributor, but it might also be the PCM. Apparently the miss is on the #3 cylinder, and the distributor shows no pulse generation with a scanner hooked up. I am debating spending $150 on a new distributor or buying a used one on ebay out of a 1992 deville for $30 with a 6 month warranty. Basically, how likely is it that if I buy a used distributor, it will die within a year?

I've been having hard hot start issues more and more frequently so I decided it's time to get a pressure gauge and start poking around in there... I've determined that it's either the FPR or the fuel pump check ball but I cant go much further until I get a test gauge.

There's no fuel at the FPR nipple, and the injectors are fairly new but the system does not hold pressure overnight.

Anyways, I was wondering what are the most reliable brands for fuel pumps and FPR's?

According to my wallet, AC Delco is out of the question so it's looking like Bosch, Airtex, BWD, CarDone, etc etc

What do you guys think?

Okay - let's start off I want NO SYMPATHY here. It is what it is. Anyway......I have a 93 Deville owned in family since new. Now it's at a tick below 90k miles. From a "need" standpoint, I dont need the car...I have another daily driver and a different "backup". This is my 3rd car. I like it...and think its sort of a respect factor to my parents/grandparents to take care ot it. Normally I do my own stuff, but work took precedence - so whatever.

Fall 2008 I took my car to a local "trusted" shop to have my coolant system for its annual flush/refill of coolant and supplement tabs. The car was bought Nov 1992 and has been a ritual since. It got a clean bill of health and we moved on. Car garaged. My parents know the owner of the shop I took it to, but he's pretty disconnected from the day to day operations of the shop.

Come late Winter 2008 (2 mo later) ...little heat. Take it back to the same shop, they say the heater core must be clogged and needs to be replaced. Per my request, they reluctantly did a more intensive flush with the same result. I let it go until recently.

Between the "Little Heat" and now, I learned I had Leukimia, advanced stage. I have to think the owner of the shop knows, as he and my parents talk often.

Now...I have everything under control healthwise and things are looking better. Work has slowed down and since I've been feeling a lot better, I swapped out the core last weekend.

Still, no (or very very little) heat.
Did some reading here and find info on the "T". Pop the hood and find the T is REVERSED. The restrictor is on the drivers side of the T.
I switched the T and viola....HEAT!!

so I ran it by the owner of the before-mentioned shop. Owner brings his Cadillac mechanic over. Said mechanic says there's no way the T could have been reversed for a year. If it was, the car would be toast. It would have overheated LONG before now. It will ONLY cool properly if the T was right and he would have immediately noticed that.

My question is...............how possible is it for
A - something have taken place to generate interest in said shop performing core replacement (estimate $600)
B - Something fishy taken place at the shop to initiate my interest in having them perform the repair.

Please advise - I'm not out to judge anyone - just looking for honest opions.
