Hi,

This is my first post here so it might be a little lenghty.
I have a 1968 SDV with a 472cc engine. The temperature gauge is acting up. If the car had been sitting in the garage for a while and I start it, let it run on idle, it takes about 3-4 minutes to gauge the coolant temperature as 'hot' and trip the dash alarm. I decided to take the termostat out and start it back up. It took me almost and hour to get the damn thing out and when I restarted the engine, it took less than 10 seconds to gauge the temp as 'hot' and trip the alarm.

I currently have the factory shop manual on order but I was informed that it may be the coolant temperature sender. Since I do not have any of the system schematics, would there be another possiblity which causes the alarm to trip? (mechanical parts, electrical components, etc.) The hoses are all fine, the rad is full of coolant but I am unsure of its concentration , altough, I believe it should be ok.

i tried local yards for a 425 but no luck. faxed and called usa parts supply but again no luck. anyone have any reasonable advice as far as who to check out for an engine? im leaning towards the stock 425 either carb or fi, a stock 500, and my last option is a sb 350. any extra things i need to get like diff mounts for the 350 or 500. also will a chevy or seville 350 bolt up to my turbo 400? i was told it wouldnt. thanks...

But anyways here's my question, which could be a dumb one but I'mma ask anyways.

I just found a 73 500 v8 from an eldorado that I am considering putting in my 68 deville convertible. However before I put it in and since I already have the engine completely broken down I looked into the specs on the 70 eldo 500 and all the numbers match up: bore, stroke and the case/head/crank #'s so my question is can I just switch the pistons to the 70 eldo 500 pistons for the higher compression ratio and get the higher torque and hp?

Seems to me my car idles pretty rough, especially in drive, and perhaps my idle is set too low? Im going to time the motor(found the vacuum leak finally) and I know its supposed to be 23 @ 1600 rpms, but I was curious of the rest. Thank you in advance.

The 500 in my 76 chevy pickup quit running the other day. It started running really rough and bogging down and then it died. It is not getting any spark at all. I checked the coil and it is still getting power to the positve terminal and the terminal going to the points still has power. I checked it with the starter cranking too. I replaced the coil, points, and condenser but it is still not getting any spark at all. The distributor is still turning and the points are opening and closing. I also replaced the wire from the coil to the points in case that was bad. Its not the wire coming off the distributor. The coil does not put out any spark at all. Anybody have any idea what could be the problem?

Hope someone who has had a similar problem will be able to help me, I have a 65 Convertible deVille with a 429cu in motor and a Rochestor 4 Jet carb on it, I have had continuing problems with this carb and have spent a fortune on it, I am now at a point where I would like to just biff it out and replace it, my question is where can I get either a guaranteed replacement unit or an alternative carb that will still fit this manifold and connect to all of the vacuum's and other bits and pieces that attach to the original carb. I won't be doing the work myself, I have a good mechanic who specialises in old American tin but I do live a long way away in Auckland New Zealand. Can anyone help?

I was replacing my pcv valve and elbow, and the grommet broke off inside the valve cover. I grabbed some needle nose pliers and grabbed the piece. As I went to pull it out, it snapped in half, so basically, a half moon shaped piece of the grommet is still inside the valve cover. (1/8 inch diam by 1/2 length max) Do I have to open it all up and find that small piece of rubber, or will it be ok to leave it in and run it?? Ive been told both. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hey guys, me and a friend just picked up a 1977 Cadillac Hearse, and we are hoping to get it running for Halloween. It is very rough cosmetically...but it supposedly runs and drives well. It hasn't been started in about a month. So all the fluids are full and we put in a brand new battery. I cranked it for about 6 or 7 seconds, then stopped, so we could prime it again and so I didn't overheat the starter. I went to crank it again, and it just made a CLUNK sound. Checked the battery and it was at 12.58, a 700 CCA battery that is brand new. Got a different battery and the same thing. So I am thinking the starter went out? I can hear the clunk but that's it. I tried tapping it with a hammer, and one time it sounded like it made "half a crank" but then went right back to clunking. So... is a starter all that difficult to do on the 425? I honestly never did a starter before, but I think I can do it, it looks like maybe 2 bolts and some wiring. Is this something I can do myself? I have done plenty of other things on cars...just never a starter. The only other thing I was wondering is when I put the new starter in do I have to like align it in a certain way so the teeth line up or will it just kinda snap in place?
I was planning to do it tomorrow in the driveway, so if there is any suggestions or things to look out for please let me know, or any other diagnosis, although I'm 99.9% sure the starter went.

Thanks
