As stated, I have an '05 STS, a recent purchase, and I'm spending some time and effort to make a few wear and tear issues right. The driver's door weatherstripping is heavily worn across the "drag butt area" and torn in a couple of spots. I've purchased the weatherstrip and was hoping someone had done this before and could offer any tips or tricks to accomplishing the job with a minimum of cursing and gnashing of teeth. :banghead: Thanks in advance!
I was looking for an STS for months..one that would fit my specs:

* Mint
* low Miles
* warranty
* Moon roof
* NAV!
* colr any
* v6

I went through so many crappy STS. So many dealers.
Drove hours to see some of these cars.. Search endlessly online.

It wore me out. I was on my last leg... UTIL..

I found the perfect car ( ALMOST )

Black On Black 2005
From Authorized caddy dealer
Moon Roof
NAV
FLAWLESS
Only 33,000 miles
MINTTTTT

I jumped on it.. Beat out another couple who was eying it.
BAM!

Now.I dont beat on cars. I keep up with maintenance.
In fact my Honda CR-V is at 130,000 miles and runs great.
Never a mechanical problem!
(gave it to my wife..she just got her license)

The one thing my new STS does not have...

No Warranty.

Am I Screwed or what?

Ok so winter is coming and I'm thinking snow tires, only I can't find 4 of the same tires.

What I have found is this:

Fronts:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

Backs:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

Now all of the tire manufacturers say buy in sets of four - is this really necessary or are they just trying to sell more of their tires when they say this?

I've had my Kumho ECSTA ASX tires for about 7 or 8 months now and overall I like them. However, there is one thing I don't like and that is the tendency to flat spot after sitting for a day or two. I thought that went by the wayside after bias tires, but I've read that this seems to be an issue again with modern tires. Anyone else experiencing this? It goes away after a few miles and doesn't seem to be coming from any particular corner of the car, so I can only assume it is flatspotting.

Hi all.

My STS (bought used) has the cool 18" chrome rims. However it's obvious that the previous owner was unable to clean the smallish recesses, the areas where the little bolts or rivets are, and where the lug nuts attach, etc. Also, the "back" of the rim has probably never been touched. I have 2 questions:

What kind of tool should I use to get these small, hard to reach areas back into shape and keep them in shape? I'm not even sure if it's too late for the finish, but thought I'd ask before making big plans.

Is the back lip of the wheel (the part you don't really see because it's behind the spokes, but it does show a little bit between them) chrome too? Should this be taken care of too, so that the finish doesn't just get destroyed there and "creep" to the front side?

Thanks in advance!

Now that winter is arriving and it is getting cold, Ive started to notice this problem again.

When it is pretty cold (35*F or below) The navigation screen is very dim, practically illegible during the day. After about 20 minutes when the car warms up inside, it begins to get brighter and back to normal.

This happens every morning when it is that cold out. There is definitely a particular temperature that triggers it, but I am estimating around 35 or below.

Anyone else have this issue?

BTW: 2007 STS V8

Thanks,

front suspension (mainly drivers side) squeaks at cold temperatures.

it almost sounds like a bushing needs replaced or the strut is going out.
anyone ever heard an old car that squeaks when going over speed bumps or odd angles? that's about what it sounds like.

i'm getting ready to call them up and see if my warranty covers it (GMPP Major Guard). i have a feeling it doesn't. one of the disclaimers is that shocks are not covered nor "squeaks".

another kick in the nuts is that if if you report a problem and the problem doesn't occur when the tech is looking over it the dealership charges me $65 for whatever the item is.

i've got a feeling if i try to explain it to someone over the phone they will understand it as a "squeak" when it might be something else.

any ideas?

Well

Pulled the trigger Saturday on a 55K mile STS AWD w 1SG HUD etc from the Caddy dealer that is about 2 miles away from my house. It was one that had been there for two months and they lowered the price about $1500 in that time period. It was one that I had been watching
As many of you probably know I was looking at an Acura RL also and even test drove an Infiniti M35X most recently
Those two were more expensive and the Infiniti was a LOT more expensive
Anyway...I walked in made the dealer a deal..one that he said they would never do. I then provided him the documentation as to why his 05 was not worth what he thought and that frankly it had limited marketability based on the fact it was out of warranty. I also mentioned that the Acura dealer had told me that a high mileage Cadillac was "not marketable"...so when it hit over 80-90K they were typically wholesaled....being that his car had 55 already..I told him it was probably in his best interest to take my deal..and I added the fact that the car was on their lot since September
Then I walked out of the dealer

a few hours and phone calls later...we made a deal for $250.00 more than my offer
Anyway...looking at extended warranty options
The dealership has an amazing one for 48/50...but its $4500...YIKES!!
I have seen some stuff online in the $2500 to $2800...with slightly less coverage than the dealers....BUT according to the dealer their warranty will actually pay the claims almost without questioning
My 02 that I traded in...I spent $2500 on the car driving it from 59K to 121K
and $500 of that was a seat motor that was my fault..as I spilled a beverage in the car
If I thought the 05 was going to be as relaible as the older car I would forego the warranty period
The factory warranty history on the car has about half the number of claims as my 02 had
From what I see..other than some teething issues at the beginning , that would have been fixed under warranty..these cars seem to be more relaible than their predecessors..??
Has anyone bought an aftermarket warranty on these cars?
Anyone has any repair bills that was large on one of these?..anything I should watch out for , that is typical?

The skip disappears when under load off idle, but returns at idle until the engine warms up. CEL is not coming on. It acts like it is running a bit too lean at idle. Would disconnecting the battery, touching cables together, reset the idle? Any thoughts on other things I can do before I take it to the dealer to leave it overnight so they can cold start it?

I'm considering my next car to be a used car instead of buying new again, I'm tired of trading in my 3 year old cars that I buy new and getting raped on them because I put on about 25-30k miles per year.

I want something with AWD because I live in the northeast..

I want something that is foremost reliable, will last very long, rides very nicely, has good performance, nice handling, styling, etc.

I was considering mainly foreign cars but figured I'd give USA cars a look too..
some I was considering..
-Subaru Legacy
-Lexus GS
-Audi A4, A6, etc.
-Nissan Murano

So I'm trying to get a feel for how the Cadillac would fit in here.. what do you all think?

As I push the button to kill the engine I feel this hard jerk at the same time I push the button. So Im like "What the hell was that?" So I turn the car back on and turn it off again and nothing. So at this point I don't know what to think. So I get out of my car, shut the door, and turn to walk and see....A 1991 spray painted POS S-10 is sitting on my bumper! Some dumb @ss didn’t set his parking brake and this truck rolled right into my car :nono: Needless to say I was pissed :banghead: So I call the cops, after 45 mins the owner of the truck comes out saying "I thought i set my parking brake". Then he ask me the dumbest question ever "You aren’t gonna press charges against me are ya?" LOL I was in shock. I should be getting my bumper painted within the next week or so but damn. Just thought I'd share and vent a little.

I recently purchased a 2005 STS and have the Bluetooth option. I was able to pair the system to my phone and it worked on a couple of calls. Now the phone is still paired and the calls are able to be made and recieved, but the voice is not heard through the speaker system. If I hit the private icon on the touch screen, I can talk normally on the phone. It seems the system is a mute state. Also, I deleted the phone info and started from scratch and the same thing happened after a few calls. Any information in trying to remedy this problem would be greatly appriciated.

Recently purchased a 2006 STS with all the toys (nav, heated steering wheel, etc). I noticed that I can only "seek" through the radio stations through the Steering Wheel Radio Controls, I cannot toggle through the Presets. I there a way to revise the steering wheel controls to allow me to toggle through the presets? Does not seem right to have to touch the Nav Screen to change the stations.

I apologize if this information is listed in the owners manual, at work and have not had time to look.

I'd like to put HID's in my 06 sts 1sg. I've seen some threads in here about people doing it, but I'd like to know what everyone's consensus is on brand and installation.

I've head philips is good. I don't want to buy the cheap made-in-china kits. I also don't want the deep dark blue lights that I see a lot of Japanese cars with. My dad has a 05 Lincoln Navigator with HID's and they look perfect. They are very bright (like daylight) and they have just a tiny bit of blue in them (like any "pure-white" would).

So to sum up my questions:

Which Brand of HID's would you suggest?

What's the best way to install them? (Mounting locations for the ballasts, etc.)

What do you suggest I do to achieve the most similar result in terms of color and light output to the headlights in my dad's 05 Navigator?

I’ve had an interesting, and educational, turn of events I thought I would share with everyone . . . I just bought a 2009 STS. After I had the car for about a week I told the dealership I would like an accessory spoiler put on the car. They said, “No problem!”, ordered an accessory spoiler and installed it on my STS. When I got the STS back, I was quite upset to see that a plain, “aftermarket”, spoiler had been installed. I said to them that this is not the spoiler that is shown as an accessory for the STS on the Cadillac web site! We went to the parts manager’s office, looked at the web site and, sure enough; the one on the web site looks different. But he assured me that the part number he ordered was the one listed as the accessory spoiler for the STS and it’s the same one listed on the web site. But thanks to Cadillacforums.com, I was able to do a lot of research and find out that the spoiler currently pictured as an accessory for the STS is actually an STS-V spoiler and I got the part number as well, which is 19151398. (See post http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ler-added.html) So I took this information to the parts manager, he did his research and this is what he had to say; the picture on the web site is wrong! It is not the actual STS accessory spoiler. What is pictured is an STS-V spoiler but it cannot be ordered as an “accessory”. It can only be ordered as a replacement part, it comes without the 3rd taillight and is unpainted. But it can be ordered! And that’s where my story stands. They are ordering an STS-V spoiler for me. I’ll have to pay to have it painted, but they’ll install it for me. It most likely won’t fit into the same holes that were drilled for the other spoiler, but those holes will probably be covered up.

So, be warned. If you want the spoiler that has the 3rd tail light incorporated into it, that is an STS-V spoiler and it cannot be ordered as an accessory but instead must be ordered as a replacement part and it will need to be painted. Or you can order it through the various web sites like http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ or http://www.newgmparts.com/.

Hopefully this helps someone avoid the confusion I went through!

I got hit on my driver side Friday evening. I'm pretty sure if I could find a junkyard with a raven black STS in it, I could replace the doors myself (low speed accident, really, just the exterior skins of the doors are f'ed). But I've never bought used Caddy parts. Is there a place that people use here, or one that's reputable that I should contact before I start blind searches on the internet?

I really just need the doors themselves.... Probably only the driver side rear. That's really hosed. All the electronics, windows, everyting associated with the door works fine. The doors still close fine too.

Thanks for any help!

I have the JE5 brake option, I bought Centric rotors and Duralast ceramic gold pads( my friend has these pads and there is a lifetime warranty on them,he put 10k miles on them, brought them back and they just gave him new ones). Spent @ $430 (w/ free shiping) for all, will install soon and let all know

I had noticed a small puddle of antifreeze under my 06' STS a couple days ago. I tried to find the leak, thinking it might have been a radiator hose, but the leak did not appear to be a hose, so yesterday I called Montrose Cadillac in Greenville, Pa and set up a visit. They confirmed that the water pump was bad, and it would cost me a little over $600 to repair. Needless to say, my blood pressure went thru the roof, as I was assuming I had a warranty on this car. (It has about 52,000 miles on it now). The lady told me there was no warranty showing on the computer, so this would not be covered by Cadillac. I got quite excitable, and told her I should have the Certified Pre-owned warranty. Well, long story short...come to find out, the dealer I purchased the car from had put the warranty info in the wrong section of Cadillac's owner info sheet. The lady dug deeper, and did find out that I did have the CPO warranty, and told me not to worry, the repairs were covered. Whew!!! It took me the rest of the day to calm back down, but I was VERY happy to pick my car up and have a balance due of $0.00!!! So Kudo's to Montrose for taking the time to dig deeper, and being patient with me in my excited state. Their workmanship was excellent as well.

I've watched this forum and tirerack.com for a couple months to learn all I could about tires for my 06 STS N*. I've learned a lot thanks to the great folks here, and with winter weather approaching new tires were a must for my ride. Throughout the summer I panicked anytime rain covered the roads as my tread was so worn I had to coast through all turns and use minimum acceleration at all times. I even felt the back end break loose once while driving in a heavy rain at 65mph with the cruise engaged on a highway. no fun at all.

Since I'm in the Chicago area I want something with decent wet/snow characteristics but still capable of standing up to some spirited driving in good conditions. I narrowed my search to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 thanks to all the threads on the topic here.

I have 235/50R17 on all 4 right now - a special order, non-staggered setup from the factory according to the RPO codes.

A couple weeks ago Bridgestone released a new model Blizzak (LM-60), and I was pleasantly surprised to see tirerack.com drop the LM-22 prices from $161 to $122 for the H-rated tires. My local tire guy (and neighbor) matched the price and I'm the proud owner of a set of Blizzak LM-22s. $625 installed

OMG what a difference. Yes, they are a little noisier than my originals but well within tolerances in exchange for actually being able to USE THE BLASTED GAS PEDAL IN THE RAIN!! I can now execute a left turn out of a stop light on wet roads just like the rest of the cars and trucks around me instead of letting them all go by me as I crawl through the turn.

Since these are speed rated Performance Winter tires their rubber compound is not designed to degrade as quickly as standard winter tires. I might put the old tires back on in the height of next summer, but I'll probably just ride the Blizzaks for the duration. I feel a slight drop in dry road handling compared to the slicks I had on before but I prefer wet road handling in my daily driver over pure dry road performance of the original tires.

Has anyone modded their STS with a two-way remote start? I want to use a system where the remote can tell me if the car has started or not. I do not want to carry an additional key fob, though, so I would want to replace all the features on the OEM one.
Surely someone has done this, right? What system did you use and what was involved with the installation?

Hi everyone, I'd love to add a USB port to the stereo system. Seems I always carry music around on my usb memory stick and thought it would be more convenient instead of having to unload/load mp3 disks, connecting wires to the AUX port etc... How cool would it be to have a usb port neatly accessible in the dash somewhere?? Just get in the car, tune to AUX and plug in your drive.

I found this device online and although it doesn't have a GM version of any kind, maybe someone can retrofit it to the Cadillac... I posted a question to their tech support people to see if any of their models will work with the Caddy so once they reply, I will report back anything they say.

Check it out and let me know what you think....

With Fall temps lowering and high humitidy on early mornings, the cars windows and flat surfaces are all covered with dew (to be expected). For some reason, I have noticeable condensation (water) on the INSIDE front windshield as well.

Has anyone else expereinced this before I go to the hassle of taking to the dealer to investigate and have them break something else in the process of fixing something because that always happens?

I've not seen this before on any car I've had. At shutdown (late afternoon), the A/C temp is on AUTO, but more likely on partial vent as outside and inside temps are close. It does not smell musty or moldy inside, but there are visable water dropletts from the dash up about 1/2 way up the inside windshield on both the driver and passenger side of the car. The passenger side isn't as much as drivers side.

Clues / suggestions?

New Tires Pull Towards Road

Hi everyone. I had two new tires put on the front recently, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and had an alignment done. I love the tires but since they were installed, I get pull to the left or right, depending on the curve of the road. My dealership service manager and I went for a ride on a local highway and yes on that road it seemed fine. The car followed the curve of the road. Pulled slightly to the right in the right lane and slightly to the left in the left lane. Well bring it on a local road and sometimes if you don't have your hands on the wheel you're going "off" the road.

My question is this. Is there an adjustment that will hold the wheel a little tighter so you don't have to try so hard to drive? It wasn't like this with the original tires. This happened after the new tires and an alignment was done.

I was driving my buddy's 06 Infinity G35 and what a breeze to drive. Even on bad roads, I told him my car would have pulled where his just kept going straight.

Tires? Alignment? What could it be?

Recently my STS started having the following problem with the traction control system.

I am taking my car to the dealer either this week or next week for this and a couple other problems for warranty work.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what may be causing this problem and if there are any TSB's relating to it.

My STS has never ever done this before. I drive a lot on the highway sometimes and usually at about 80-90 MPH.

Last Tuesday when I got on the interstate I got up to 80 MPH and the DIC said traction control active and I could feel that I had a big loss in power and a slight pull to one side.

It kept doing it any time I got over 75-80 MPH so I ended up turning it off.

Since then I had to go out of town for the weekend and I put about 500 highway miles on my car. I noticed that as soon as I hit 75-80 it comes on, I lose power, and the car sometimes pulls one way or another (random direction).

I also noticed that it seems to only come on when I am pushing the gas. If I let off the gas it turns off, then when I press the gas again it comes back on. I dont have to press the gas hard for it to come on, I only have to press it hard enough to keep the same speed.

Needless to say I feel that this could be very dangerous. Luckily it has not rained bad recently and when I turn it off it stays off and doesn't kick in the stability control or something.

I did get all brand new tires about a month ago, but it did not do this until last week. So I dont think it is related to that.

I would love to know if anyone else know why this is doing this or could give me some suggestions to give the dealer.

A couple weeks ago I parked in a local Targit parking lot and got dinged. It was pretty nasty; drivers side rear door and right below the crease.

Based on the cars parked nearby when coming and going, I think the paired marks were from the corner of a shopping cart. The clearcoat was scuffed but not broken. There's a Dent Wizard affiliate nearby, so I made an appointment.

For a hundred bucks, you can't even tell it was hit. I'm extremely satisfied. It took about an hour. The door panel was removed but these tech's have the tools and know-how to do it right. Despite the estimate noting an additional charge to buff out the scuff mark, they charged the minimum.

Don't live with a ding that will annoy you every time you see it.

Ok..let me first start by saying a couple of my friends didn't think the caddy could compare to one of their older mustangs :cookoo: So I did some pretty nice donuts and lets just say they were very impressed! Now the bad part...the next day I go to drive and the power steering not working unless I am driving or reving the engine up. The fluid smells burnt. So I flush the fluid and hope that will help..no luck of course..the a couple days after I notice that the fluid is now leaking. So I have talked to a couple people about it think the pump is out so I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow. Anybody have any ideas if it would be anything else like the rack? Also, Anybody have any idea about how much I will be looking at spending? thanks

Hi

I am looking to instal a Corsa Exhaust system on my 06 STS 4.6L. I was looking around for a good price, but the cheapest price I found was around $892 - $919 on online stores like ebay.

However, I constantly see members from this forum getting the corsa exhaust system for much cheaper prices. So I wonder where can I find cheaper prices for the corsa? (used or new)

I have been searching on ebay for good prices for over a month with no luck.

Also, are there touring and sport types of the corsa for the sts? or is it just the touring type?

I just bought my first Cadillac, a 2009 STS, and I’m quite excited about owning such a beautiful and prestigious car. But along with owning such a fine vehicle comes the risk of others coveting what I have. I would like to know other members’ experiences with theft, break-ins, stolen tires, etc. But I would also like to hear from people who have owned a Cadillac for years and have never had a problem. I just don’t know if people really mess with them that much. I know Cadillacs are not on the “top list” of stolen vehicles, but what about break-ins, tires, vandalism, etc?

I own a certified 05 STS. Took it to the dealership last week concerning a condensation issue in the headlight len. The service guy looked at the front end of the car. Claimed it had been in an accident and refused to cover the repair. Called Cadillac customer service and the young lady basically was taking the service guy's word. CarFax reports show no incidents prior to me owning it. Has anyone been in this position before? Any wise words of wisdom.

Yesterday I wanted to go to a service for a relative’s sweet little 12 year old daughter that died last week from the H1N1 virus. Since the chapel was located several suburbs away I tried to program the location into my 2008 STS NAV system. The phone number did not work so I tried putting in the address. Entering the “House Number” was no problem but when I tried to enter the “Street”, all I could find were alpha characters on the touch screen and no numbers so the system wouldn’t accept any variation of 73rd St. that I could think of. After messing with it for several minutes I gave up, hit the Interstate and found the chapel without any problem.

Today I looked in the 5/16” thick NAV manual and could only find instructions for entering alpha street names. I really don’t want to plow through the whole manual nor do I want to spend half an hour trying to get help from the 800 number so does anyone know how to enter numbered street names into the NAV? Do I have to spell out "Seventy Third Street"?
