I went vendor hunting at SEMA and found another company who makes sway bars for the CTSV - Addco. After talking to the powers that be I grabbed a catalog and found:

part numbers:
2290 - 1 3/8" Front Sway Bar
2289 - 1" Rear Sway Bar

Jegs has them both ready to go for 172.99 front and 139.99 rear (312.98 total). By contrast Hotchkis wants 493.95 for a front and rear combo - not only that, while the rear bar is the same size, the front Hotchkiss bar is only 1 1/4"

Yay cheap performance parts!:D

Well as the thread title states, I have a pesky check engine light that doesn't want to go away. Today a new MAF sensor was installed. After about an hour or so of driving, the light came back on and the car idle is off. Sometimes it surges and then drops really low like its going to shut off. This is really annoying when I am changing gears. The car just bucks like a bronco. We looked at the sensor wiring harness and it looks ok. I am at a loss.

Any ideas guys?
Thanks

I just got my B&B exhaust in the mail and I ordered the Sport version which is the louder version that has the x-pipes and does NOT have the resonator on it.

Well, I open up the package and what I am seeing does not match what I had hoped to get. Nor does it match what is on the B&B website for the Sport Exhaust System.

The problem is with the frontpipes. The frontpipes that is supposed to come with my Sport system does not have any resonators of any sort, but the one I just got in the mail has a resonator on it. What is up with that!!!?????

I got this system so it would be loud.... and now they put some sissy resonator thingy on it. NOT COOL!!!!! Did they send me the wrong frontpipes or is that how they make them now?

Hey guys, I know it's been a long time since I've been around here and I may have missed a few posts but I have a motor mount question. I just blew my new factory mounts (it hasn't been more than 6 months) and I'm starting to get tired of having to kiss ass at my dealer who is constantly trying to misdiagnose all issues with my car!! My questions are what are the main differences?? Has anyone had both? Have there been any updates on the melting issues since the last posts? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

So i installed my Magnaflow cat back the other day and have a few questions...

When im stopped at a light i sometimes get an unpleasant vibration from the exhaust... here are some pics of what i think may be causing this..

How are you supposed to align the clamps because to me this is the only way that works... i mean i don't want to rip off my exhaust on a speed bump.. I have seen pics of other Magnaflows that don't seem to have this lack of clearance...

also did i over tighten the connections between my cats and my magnaflow?? Magnaflow did not specify a torque lbs so i just cranked them down..I used the FAQ but just kinda winged it using the Magnaflow instructions..

/i drove around town like this for at least 20 mins before getting pulled over and told to go home and finish the install.. gotta love cops that like cars :duck:

So before I pull the trigger on the Spec clutch in a week or so, can I hear one more time from anyone out there running a lightweight flywheel. The UUC flywheel sold by Luke is supposed to be about 18lbs. That's a little bit heavier than a Fidanza or a Spec which I believe come in at 12-13lbs
(1/3 less). The UUC is probably a little thicker thus heavier because it works with the dual mass clutch and pressure plate. To top it off I'm even thinking about the lightweight pressure plate. Anyone have a 12lb flywheel that can share experience?

:stirpot:I am currently working with a well known rear end/chassis builder to adapt a Ford 9" straight axle to be worked into our V's. This rear will look like it came from the factory and will come with a one piece drive shaft option. NO MORE half shafts required!! This is probably more for the die hard drag race junkie but if you are interested then please post along with any questions. We are looking for interest among the V community for when this is ready early next year. This will help keep the costs down if we can come up with a list of V owners that are ready to go with the install.

My car is going to be the test vehicle and on my application I am going to go with a posi set up and 390 gears with the 1 piece drive shaft. Everything will be extremely strong and the best of the best. One of our main goals is to make it look like it came from the factory as so. We are also trying to keep costs under $5,000!

Who is interested and what questions do you have? I am not the expert here, only the customer that wants this badly and found someone willing to do it and help us out with a lower rear end cost option! I will do my best to answer any questions and mine will probably be installed in Jan of 2010.

I'm a newbie here, but I've been reading the forums for some time. 2nd owner on an '06 V which I've had for a little over a year. Warranty expired last month, so its time to get to work on it. I have some racing background (SCCA), so I'm not totally ignorant, although it was many years ago. I'm initially looking for more generic items that can be had from almost any parts house (exhaust systems, suspension upgrades, etc.).

So here's the deal: I'm looking for suggestions of reputable internet parts houses. Honesty, best "bang for the buck", good customer service, etc. Any suggestions (including who to avoid!) would be greatly appreciated.

I've been seriously contemplating getting a supercharger for the last couple of months. I'm looking for first hand experience to motivate me to pull the trigger. I guess I'm just concerned that I won't think it was worth the $ afterwards.

I'd like those that have gone forced induction to post links to any vids they have, describe driving experiences, ect.

I've never been to the dragstrip, only done autox once...so I'm mainly just interested in seat of the pants experience, torque, and ablity to blow the tires off at low to moderate speeds.

Also, has anyone gone with anyone other than magnacharger?? I found a v online done by MSD that had a procharger setup. Procharger's website doesn't list a v application though??

Does anyone know if that is just the way the come in the package or if there is a problem here?

So I ordered an LS7 clutch kit from Luke today because I like the idea of no additional clutch chatter from an aftermarket clutch, and also my local GM dealer is installing it for free under warranty....my dual mass flywheel is clunking BADLY and my pedal sticks at high RPM.

My question to you guys is should I install the remote bleeder? I do not want to end up with the hassle of dropping the entire tranny to remove it if there is a problem, but then again I have only heard of one failure.

Has anyone installed the LS7 kit and remote bleeder without notching the bellhousing? Can someone post a photo of exactly where the bellhousing needs to be notched?

Thanks!

Since I got a couple of PMs on them - I recently changed out from stock rotors and pads with braided lines to EBC Yellows, Trinet slotted, vented, and drilled rotors. Trinet aka OC Autosports produces some very nice looking replacement rotors that seem to do VERY well on the street. The yellows grab like crazy! I damn near took the valence off the car when I had to stand on the brakes recently. The yellows have yet to squeak on me, though the reds are the low dust no squeak versions. Anyone who's looking for serious stopping power should take a good look at this combo - and they're cheap. :lildevil:

I just installed :
- stage 3+spec clutch kit with steel fly and the spec slave
- Creative steel motor mounts
- UUC Diff bushing
- Filled the stock trans mount with 80a urathane

My car feels solid. Feels like a totaly diffrent car, between shifts you can just feel the power .. I love it..

The down side is there is slightly more small drivetrain noises/vibration but no more major clunk ..

The clutch
- feels good, Grabby but pedal feels good. It has no chatter but does have a slight bounce/jerk if you let the pedal off to fast. and no more second gear starts...I used the spec salve that was 200$. I tried to first use a F-body slave but the fitings were totaly diffrent. The Spec slave is identical to stock, even has the same part number stamps . The only down side is the Tick bleeder Did not fit. Total for clutch and slave was $950 and the $80 harbor fright jack made it a one man job (but it wasnt easy)

The motor mounts
-Look good, my stock ones were shot. I even have a video of how bad they were. No more rattle during shutdown so im happy. I also wrapped them with exhaust wrap because they are very close to the headers. It will prevent the polly from melting... The downside was I had to remove the Kooks . Inspector gadget would not be able to get to the bolts...

The Diff bushing
-Looks much better then stock, my stock one was shot.

The trans mount , used the 50$ can of 80a urathane (the might mouse way)
The stock one is very soft and flimsy

Cant wait till the spec breaks in so I can realy open the Ls6 up :)

Now pics and i have a video of the stock fly and motor mount.

Enjoy and feel free to ask questions.

OK, I did a little research but have not come up with anything. I have been looking at a few things for the V and have come across a train horn kit with compressor and tank that I am seriously looking at installing on the V just for those mindless drivers that never seem to notice that there are other people on the roads with them. I also have been looking into this because I have been looking into the air bag suspension mod to for our cars as well and having a air source at all times would be nice for that as well. My question is if anyone has ever attempted anything like this? Also, considering the compressor needs to be in a more conditioned space I thought that the empty spare tire well would be a great place to put the tank and the compressor... if they would all fit. The compressor would be no problem but I know that that the tank is going to be the biggest issue as far as fitment is concerned. the kit that I am looking at has a 2.5 gallon tank and the tank is 23.5 inches long and 6 inches wide and 7.5 inches tall. The compressor is 9"x4"x7". What do you guys think?

Does anyone have a part number for the K&N or Volant or LPE Filter? Or maybe even a size? I've never tried to purchase a filter alone so I'm not sure if they go by size or application. Or could I just grab any decent sized filter and throw it on behind a heat shield?

Thanks

Would it be worth it to maggie it? Like will the maggie be released at full potential or will I have to put a lot more work in the car to bring up the full potential of that maggie?

After a long wait, we got her on last night and I brought her home :D

I ended up taking the car to a local tech as the price for install couldn't be beat ($450 for install and $250 for dyno tune). It was installed by AIR (American Intense Racing). The LS2 blower on the LS6 engine isn't as straight forward as we thought and I'm surely glad that I had someone install it because it would have been pushing my technical level had it been a straight forward install.

We didn't get a baseline dyno but from what I've been seeing, V's have been hitting around 340RWHP-ish.

I am running the LS2 MP112 blower, 90mm TB and stock 2.8 pulley (for now) and we dyno'd in at 430RWHP (Dyno sheets are pending from Dyno Pro's who are out of town till monday now). I assume I'm only around 5 PSI with the stock pulley.

I'm not sure if that is low for RWHP numbers or not but keep in mind, I have a stock everything else.

Headers/FI CAM/160 T-Stat will be the next batch of performance mods for which I'll have to re-dyno and my tuner is wanting to convert me over to E-85 after I get the Headers/Cam/T-stat bought and put on.

Over-all, I'm pretty stoked! It's nice to have that Instant power. I thought the maggie would be pretty quiet but she screams when you hit boost. She screams louder than my muffler delete does which is really nice but runs really quiet at idle.

Pics are pending still as I gotta get it cleaned up a bit but wanted to let some of you guys know!

WOOOOHOOOOO!

PS: Thanks to many of you guys for answering some of my questions and to those pioneers who took this path before me and contributed feedback to the site to make it easier for the rest of us!

I removed the stock dual mass and then put in the katech spacer. i also added a lapd bleed kit. After all was back together the clutch seems like the spacer is to big. Did i not need the spacer because of the twin disc.not a single. when you start the car you can put it in any gear with no clutch. Seems to me that the fingers can not release out far enough.

I have done some searching on the forum, didn't see what I wanted, perhaps I missed something, but I would like to know if anyone has installed a resonator onto the midpipe of the Magnaflow exhaust.

I want a quiet performance exhaust, and I've been debating between the Magnaflow or Borla. Both have the sound I like, but the Borla sounds more refined. However, I would like to have an exhaust that will complement, yet not make louder, the exhaust signature when catted Kooks headers are added to the mix. I am concerned the Borla may become too loud, so I thought adding resonators to the Magnaflow system would be another option, esp when price is considered.

Thanks for the help.

Called and spoke with Snow Performance earlier and received quite a bit of information to think about. I have seen a few people on this forum that have the Stage 2 kit, and am wondering what their thoughts are. From what I can tell, and what I have found through search, is that this will lower the intake temperature, allow for advanced timing, and essentially run what looks to the car as 116 octane (approx). The kit wasn't expensive and the claim was about a 25% increase on gas N/A vehicles. I will take that with a grain of salt, but eve at a 12.5 % increase you are looking at about 50hp crank.
Next question: Should the all-thread(or bolts) be one piece and have a modified washer in the middle to grab the urethane or should I go with two separate bolts that have no physical contact? I don't like the idea of having nothing but urethane holding the mount together, but I'm also concerned that the mount will transmit too much vibration if I go with a single piece of all-thread right through the middle. My other thought was to just remove the stock mounts and fill them with liquid urethane, but not sure how the stock mounts are assembled and if they'd take to that kind of treatment. Anybody have some good pics or cut away of the stock mounts?

Thanks,
Tom

I was getting ready to order the upgraded half shafts from one of the two online vendors and notice that mine seem to be pretty dang large already. How can I tell if these are stock or after market upgrades without trying to locate another V in my smaller town? My performance shop says they are as thick as the ones on the C6Z06's?? I measured them and they are 4" inches in circumference and 1.5" in diameter.

Last weekend I took the V down to Steve's Pacific Import Auto to do a few dyno runs. PIA is a Subaru shop, and I've used their AWD Mustang dyno a number of times for my Subaru, so I know them well and figured I'd bring the V by just for shits and giggles. My Kooks headers recently returned from being coated by Swain Tech, so I wanted to get a baseline before I install those and dyno the car again.

Thus far the car is essentially stock when it comes to the powertrain. I have a K&N panel filter, a Magnaflow cat-back, and synthetic fluids throughout.

We did 3 pulls pretty much back-to-back. The 1st pull was the most consistent, with peak torque and peak power slightly lower than the 2nd pull. On the graph you can see the 2nd pull started out lower than the 1st and stayed a few ft-lb lower all the way up until just before peak torque, at which point it jumped up and held that higher level all the way to redline. The 3rd pull was lower for an even longer time - past peak torque - but about 5200rpm came back up and merged on the 2nd run to produce nearly identical peak power. I'm assuming the differences in the three runs were due to heat soak and the ECM pulling some timing, but I don't have any way to datalog to prove that.

Here's the graph:

Peak numbers were 350.5hp @ 6150rpm and 348.1ft-lb @ 4750rpm. I'm sure some will say those are typically high Mustang numbers, but based on my Subaru's dyno results, this particular Mustang dyno reads probably 6 or 7% lower than the one Dynojet I've had that car on. Every dyno is different, which is why I wanted to get my own baseline before I install the headers.

I only posted the AFR curve for the first run. The other two were very similar, a bit richer at the low end, but by ~3600rpm they pretty much were tracing over the first curve. Note that the scale on the right hand side of the graph is a little weird - each tick is 0.4, so there is no tick for 13:1. At the top end it was running 13.2:1.

And here's a quick video of the 2nd run, shot with my digital camera.

My intention now is to get the headers installed, get my spare ECM reflashed (most likely by wait4me), then get new dyno results. It'll probably be a couple months, though, as I'm about to head back out to sea.

Ok, at the advice of heavy I eliminated an electrical issue as my oil pressure problems. I'm thinking oil pump but i could be a clogged pick up tube screen or a number of other things. I guess since I'm going to be tearing into the motor I'm just gonna put her in the shop and do my cam swap. I'll have to settle for driving the tahoe or stang for the time being:helpless:. I've done a bunch of reading here and other places on cams but just want to get some opinions from those after the install and with a few miles on after the cam. So get your brains and know how ready so here come the questions.

1. Should I go with the stock oil pump or a ported oil pump? I hear the stock is fully capable of doing what I need but for 30 extra bucks would you go ported?? Here is one http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=151&catid=55

2. What cam set up should I go with. I want my car to be as reliable as can be expected. It will be a daily driver for the most part until next year when it goes to the body shop to be completely repainted (thinking satin black...). So I don't want a really crazy cam set up just something to get some decent HP out of.

3. Are headers a must or just I really really should add headers?

4. What brands and such do you recommend for the misc. parts to compliment the cam. ie. rockers, push rods, springs, ect.

5. Replace the chain? If so, single or double roller?

6. Have the cam run through Adcole? Is it really worth it? how many of you did this?

7. How long is the install doing it pretty much on my own. I'm not a mechanic but I can do most of my own work. Anything else you guys can think of that I may need to know.

8. How much money in parts are we talking?

Thanks in advance guys :worship::worship::worship:. And I know I'll need to dyno tune it afterwards.

I am in the market to upgrade my front and possibly rear brake setup. i have been considering going to drilled and slotted rotors and upgrade pads to hawks. I don't track the car yet:devil: and it is my DD. The main purpose of the upgrade would be appearance. I have read many of your threads and comments on this subject and am steering toward factory stuff. I called local Cadillac dealer I was quoted about $500 for everything front and rear rotors and pads stock just parts. My question is has anyone tried any of these setups. I have always had good experience with ebay and like the price considering it would make the car look better. Also be more toward what I was hoping for it to look like but hows the reliability and performance?

After market set option 1

Myself and couple of friends decided to brave the chilly October morning and head out to Wisconsin for the last possible race day at Rock Falls Raceway. My goal was simply to use the dial-in runs to get a solid baseline for the stock V before I do some work on it over the winter. Well, I was a little disappointed but, then again, so was everyone else on street tires. The hard part was waiting for the track prep and some snow to melt (yes, snow). Had to wait around 4 hours before they let anyone start doing any runs.

My friend's Z06 pulled a 12.9, a full half a second slower than he had a couple of weeks prior. The Shelby GT500 could only muster a 13.3 and my other friend's clutch on the G37 did not cooperate so he never got a run at speed. It was about 42 degrees outside and traction was definitely an issue. Next, it was my turn. And, wouldn't you know it, someone in line mentions to me " I hope you have better luck than the last guy who ran a V here. He broke on the line on his first run!" Ouch, didn't want to hear that considering I still had the stock 05 rear end made for a V6. Time for the run.

I skipped the burn out box and water and simply drove up to the line. No burn out, no chirping, nothing. I was not going to grenade it burning off rubber. Light came up, walked it off the line, bogging a bit, made a 1-2 hoppity, hoppity, then a 2-3 hop, hop and off to the finish. Wheel hop was horrible, especially on the track (no surprise there) with limited traction. The stock runflats were certainly not optimal in this world (or any, for that matter). That run netted me a 14.179 at 103.77 mph. I did not care about the R/T since it was a solo run, but the 60 foot was 2.3.

Second run, similar launch with a little more rev to try and avoid the bog, worse 60 foot at 2.55 and 14.133 at 105.11 mph. Made up for the poor launch with a bit better 2-3 and 3-4 shifts.

Third run, against a guy with slicks - rushed my launch a bit - nothing like the feeling of the guy next to you hitting 40 mph while you are still trying to get traction - 2.48 60 foot - hoppity hop 1-2 and 2-3 with some decent shifts - 14.114 at 107.11 mph.

Well, if I had stuck around, I know what my dial-in would be. I will definitely be getting some rear end work done. A solidly built rear with the right axles should help things get rolling better. I know a IRS setup is not optimal for the track but a little less would be nice. If I could replicate the 2.1 60 foot times my friend was able to get in his Z06 with street tires, I would be happy enough.

Hello,

MOD hell brewin here. I am in the middle of my Maggie install and have the wrong friggen valley cover. I believe I need the LS6 valley cover as I have the LS2 one that came with the LS2 blower I bought. Since my motor is the LS6, I guess I need the LS6 valley cover and not the LS2 to match the maggie.

Can anyone help or does anyone have one??

I am hoping I can find something by morning thus avoiding having to pay Magnuson prices :(

Thanks,
Yes, I know this current setup is for Prochargers.

Naturally it got me thinking. Why couldn't this be made for our applications? It seems that what it does is break up our one large serpentine belts into 2 seperate systems. One being a belt going from the crank to the maggie, the second taking up all the rest of the accessories. Doing a search on "flip drive belt system" i've been hearing tons of reviews about guys going way up in boost numbers and having ZERO slip reported without having to go 8 rib. Many benefits to this guys, may be worth a look into. I would assume we'd need some custom pulleys made but that shouldn't be too hard.

If I'm way off base here and just plain crazy, I'm sure someone will correct me.

Hope I spelled correctly. I have run 2 sets of PS2s, the first 255/40 the second 265/40. The 265s had uneven tire wear, with more wear on the outer surface. Most likely due to my fondness for taking on/off ramps at warp speed. A friend put on 255/40 hankook evo 12s yesterday. The one in the C&D or R&T article that compared a number of tires to PS2s. I was torn between the dunlops and hankooks until I check the price. It also looked like the hankooks water channels would clear the wet stuff better, so I went with the hankooks and saved $100 per tire. I drove to Memphis last night in the rain half way and found the tires did great in the rain, but do not seem hook up in the wet stuff quite as well as the PS2s. It seems like tire "plop" is greatly improved as well as tire noise. Tire pressure was at 38 psi, and the ride was better than with the PS2s at 35 to 37 psi. We are now leaving to go to New Orleans so will report back. BTW, if ever in memphis check out the Peabody and you must get the ribs at the Rendezvous (michalob is the only tap beer, others in bottle). After 1.5 racks of ribs and baked beans and 2 pitchers my wife is going to have a long ride to new orleans for our anniversary. Good thing I set her up with a dozen roses and breakfast in bed.

CCW has a "deal" on their site that you can get there wheels with Hankook Ventus R-s2s... 265/35/18 F and 315/30/18 rear... is that too wide for my LS7 with 530 ft/lb trq? ... I have no traction with 245s, but I doubt anyone does...

so my question is, should I potentially do their deal? and get 315? or just get rims and get my own tires... skinnier than 315

my second question is, if not 315, then what size?

last question, if not 315, what rim width to go with suggested tire width

Thank a lot guys, I appreciate all of the help

After some testing and brainstorming with dannboss and Whisler151 (2 great guys to deal with BTW) it's been determined that the 04-05 CTS-V's needs the big passenger side axle to stop the wheel hop.
The 06-07 CTS-V's need a small drivers side axle to stop the wheel hop.
The trick is to vary the size from side to side as much as possible to break up the harmonics that cause the wheel hop.
The 04-05's came with small axles on both sides so a big axle on the passenger side does the trick.
The 06-07's came with big axles on both sides so it needs a smaller axle on the drivers side to stop the wheel hop.

We'll test this theory out on whisler151's car in a couple weeks (or sooner) but it should work great.

I sent Whisler151 a big axle for the passenger side and it did nothing for wheel hop because the OEM axle was pretty close to the same size as the big 300m axle he put in.
I'll either send him an 04 axle to put in the drivers side or I'll just send him one of the new 300m small axles when they get done.

I have both small drivers side and big passenger side axles in work right now so in a couple weeks they will both be ready.

Thanks

I am about to order B*B headers and exhaust for my V and am totally excited about it!!!

I have been quoted what I consider to be a great price $2,000 brand new for both the headers and exhaust. Before I make the purchase which I will in the next few days, I wanted to make sure that I was not missing any good deals... new or used.

A guy on this message board is selling his B&B catback, but it comes with the resonator which I do not want. I want the x-pipe sicne I will be running no cats and need the offroad pipes. I have looked on e-bay and did not have much luck.

Also, which ARP bolts do I need to purchase that would work best with these headers. And do I need to use the gaskets that come from B&B or would I be better off buying something else aftermarket to ensure a bomb proof seal?

Thanks guys!!
