Alright, it's almost tire time...looking to get rid of my wonderful runflats and get some decent tires.

I've narrowed the search down to:

General Exclain UHP - Seems to be the best bang for the buck

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus - high treadwear rating for a z rated tire

Bridgestone 960AS - also z rated and has great warranty.

Which do you guys recommend? I want to step up to 255s for a little wider tire and I really don't track...maybe an autocross twice a year and this car is my daily driver/road trip car.

I've heard great things about all 3 tires...just on the fence on which ones to get.

Hey Guys,

I have had the V for almost 3 months now, so I thought I would provide my brief "IMHO Comparison" between the 2006 300c SRT8 and the V1 CTS-V since I have owned both:

First let start with looks.
Exterior: I love the looks of both cars. I like the V more cause it is smaller and has more of a sportier look than the 300c SRT8. The V looks more aerodynamic. I love the V's grill. It lets ppl know this is a different CTS. The SRT8's grill was the same as the other 300 even though it's front fascia was slightly different. I like the look of the stock wheels of the SRT8 more so than the CTS-V, no particular reason.

Interior:
I love the CTS-V interior way more than the SRT-8. Believe it or not (I know you guys bash the plasticy look of the CTS-V), but the SRT8 is even more plasticy, if that's a word. At least the CTS-V has cushion under the plastic where the SRT8 didn't. The seats in the CTS-V are higher quality too. I know it might not be leather in either but at least in the CTS is not paper thin like the SRT8. I gouged the pleather in the SRT8 just by sitting in the seat. As for space, of course the SRT8 had more since it's a larger car, but that is neither here nor there.Carpet is not comparison, CTSV wins. The carpet in the SRT8 was thin and cheap feeling.

Electronics:
This is where the SRT8 kills the CTSV. I mean this is ridiculous. Okay the CTSV came out a year before the SRT8 300, but you would think they were 5 years apart when it comes to the electronics. The SRT8 has bluetooth, played MP3 cd's, rain sensing wipers and a NAV that I though sucked until I seen the CTS's. The sound system on the SRT8 makes the CTS's sound like a Fisher Price Radio. Nevertheless, this doesn't surprise me that the CTS V lacked these things. I used to support GM's IT for several years and talking to a few engineers they always allowed other car companies to be guinea pigs for technology then they would hop on the band wagon later.

Performance:
Okay here's what ppl have been waiting for. The performance of these two just don't have the same feel IMHO. I guess it's because on is automatic and the other is manual. Acceleration wise they are pretty much the same, though the SRT8 torque is more noticeable. Both cars have a nice rumble from American muscle. The SRT8 rear is definitely tighter than the CTS-V. I never even heard of so many diff issues until I bought the CTSV.
The SRT8 felt floaty when I drove it at high speeds on the freeway. It felt like I was driving a big Lincoln Towncar. That was one thing I hated about the car. The CTS-V feels much tighter and grounded and has more of a sports car feel. I feel like I am in a cockpit in the CTS-V whereas in the SRT8 it felt like I was in a "LOL"...Cadillac Seville.

Handling:
Believe it or not the SRT8 handle pretty well, I never took it to extremes, but I haven't taken the CTS-V to extremes either, so I guess I can't really compare the two.

Overall:
I am happy I have the CTS-V. I look forward to driving it. Whereas the SRT8 just seems like a big engine with wheels, no excitement about it. Maybe because it was an automatic and the V is a manual. I have no regrets selling the SRT8 and purchasing the CTS-V. I hope others on here can include their own take between the two cars.

I've been searching the site and google for a couple hours now about the diff whine issue. I have found a million threads on people saying they have it and that a replacement diff fixed the issue. What I'm trying to find out is what is the root cause? I'm assuming the whine is caused by a gear mesh issue. But what is causing the mesh to change from new and create this noise? worn bearings, ring and pinion tooth wear, ect? Has anyone pulled apart one of these whining cases and compared it to a stock off the shelf diff?

I am looking to upgrade from my 2003 CTS to a V. I am looking a the 2005 and 2006 models and noted that there is a difference in engine size. 5.7L to 6L respectively, however the HP ratings seem to be the same.

Are there any differences in quartermile times? Are there any other differences I should know about before making a decision?

My gut feel is bigger is better, I was hoping to get your thoughts.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Have you guys noticed when ever you tell people you own a cts-v they get all passionate about it and start telling about how the car is junk and cadillac shouldn't be making fast cars and theres no "racing heritage" behind cadillac but yet Cadillac is the only with enough guts to challenge all the other competitors and still beat them? I don't get it why everyone's hating on the V i mean they keep finding things wrong with the car like the interior is too plasticy and blah blah i mean come on! I mean go look on YouTube and you will see all kinds of people commenting the V is crap but yet it is the winner of the contest really? why don't you do that for other cars when they win and call them junk? Just accept that the V is a sick car and all the haters are simply jealous of the amazingness that is the V!

Sorry kind of rant but friends keep bugging me about all these other cars that are "better"

For the past month my 2007 V has been making a grinding noise from the front of the car and I feel a vibration through the steering wheel and all of the pedals every time I turn the steering wheel at slow speeds (stopped or less than 2-3 mph). The vibration/grinding happens for roughly 1/4 of a turn for every full turn of the steering wheel and it doesn't matter if I'm turning left or right. The vibration/grinding was not very noticable a month ago but it is getting worse as time goes on. I never had an issue with this for the first year and a half I have had the car. An interesting point is that when the car is cold there is no vibration/grinding. It only starts once the car has warmed up.

I just picked up the car from the dealership and based on GM's recommendation they changed a power steering hose and flushed the power steering fluid. It didn't make a difference and the vibration/grinding is still there. When I went for a drive with the shop foreman at my dealer he suspected an issue with the intermediate steering shaft. They claim that GM is preventing them from changing anything else and GM is claiming this is "characteristic of the vehicle". I've heard that excuse for wheel hop and singing differntials, but never for this. The service advisor said they had another CTS-V in for service at the same time and it does the same thing.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or know what the issue could be? Is this really something that is part of the long list of "characteristics" for the V?

I explained them that there was a big problem with the 05 and 06 rearends and that they should be able to replace it under warranty. The mechanic told me that there was NOT a recall on the rearend.... only the ring and pinion.

Is this accurate? I doubt it since almost all of the forum members have had their entire diff replaced under warranty!!! Please help me out here.

I am in need of replacing the front brake rotors on my V. After looking at the price GM gets for this part ($131 each at GMParts.com) I started looking at aftermarket rotors. I found a web site that offered performance rotors at what seems to be very competitive prices.

Slotted silver $175 a PAIR
Slotted and Crossdrilled silver for $175 a PAIR
Slotted and Dimpled silver for $227 a PAIR

They are all advertised to have free shipping, a lifetime warranty and free brake pads included with the purchase

I had never considered getting rotors with these performance enhancements but at these prices I have to consider it. So what is the big advantage to getting these? Are there any disadvantages? Will they make the pads wear faster or something? Whats the catch?

Thanks all.

I think the problem is probably tie rod ends, but I haven't had time to check it out yet.

The problem is that the steering wheel can move maybe 5% back and forth without actually turning the wheels. It's really noticeable on straight highways, you can move it back and forth freely a bit, and then with more rotation feel the resistance of turning the wheels.

I don't notice the problem on corners while driving, but if I'm stopped with the wheels turned, then I can feel the looseness back and forth.

If it's tie rod ends I assume I can just move the rotor back and forth and see it moving even with the steering locked? What else could cause this steering wheel play?

So my rear end has been clunking a lot and I put it down to it "GIVING" up. I took it to a new dealership for the first time and they tell me the bushing and mounts have "broken" or become destroyed in some way. About three years ago I got the GM replacement bushings and they squeaked all the time and got the OEM re-installed,. I assume they were not torqued properly and have now grenaded.

So I was quoted $1050 for parts and labour (that is $CDN) and parts are always more expensive here but *Yikes* that sounds like WAY too much.

Comments please.

Equipment:
Alpine CDA-9886
Metra double-din dash kit
Wet Sounds WS-420 pre-amp/line-driver/eq
Digital Designs 6.5" component set (kicks and pillars)
Digital Designs 6.5" coaxials (front and rear doors for fill only)
Digital Designs M3B 1500W mono amp
Digital Designs C4A 100x4 amp
Digital Designs 1508 8" woofers (2)
Stinger 1/0 power wire, ANL fuseholder up front
Stinger Helix RCA's
Stinger 5F digital hybrid capacitor

Pillars were built about a week ago. There was originally a Blose tweeter in each one. I removed those, cut them out, and fiberglassed a ring in for the tweeter. Each panel was glassed, sanded down, then wrapped in suede.

Next will be forming up the kick panels to hold the 6.5's. The trick is that the e-brake is like a truck and sits below the dash, not to mention there's a clutch pedal, so that's gonna take some trickery. Probably start on those next week.

A few months ago and just over 4000 miles I put in 6.5 qts of Amsoil 5w-30. I checked the dipstick at about 2500 miles and it looked pretty clean and was deeply impressed. I had checked Mobil one once at around the same mileage and it was black. As the car got to 4000 miles it stopped running as smooth, but I was a little worried when the check oil display popped up 1000 miles earlier then scheduled. No problem, I had already ordered the oil and it was on the way so I'd get to it in a day or two. A day or two comes and I pull out my Rhino ramps to find out my car is too low. Now I need to re think. A few days go by and the quickest thing I could come up with in my jack and jack stands. Today I get the jack out and roll it to the car.... to find out the car it too low again. Some works were said that I can't type here, and rethought. I remembered that I could use (excuse me if I'm using the wrong term) the unibody to support the jack (which is right at the edge) and could easily get the jack under. So I jack it up, but since the car is lower, when the jack is all the way up, the jack stands are too high. It's a laugh at this point, and I have the car high enough to put the ramps under the wheels. The oil change was completed and I'm going to buy some 2x6s to fab up some elongated ramps to lead to the rhimos. I never even contimplated this scenerio. Damn.:banghead: I can't wait to change the rear fluid this week.... I need a lift!

On another note I had met a V owner last night that I had previously seen in my town. I told him about us on here, so I hope he comes to say hello. Hi Tom.

I was watching Classic Car Chase on TV this morning. Not a bad show if you like seeing really nice classic European cars. Apparently the guy who buys and sells these cars either owns or deals with a company, F-40 Motorsports.
On the show they were showing a view of the building from the front and lined up was what looked to me like a Ferrari 360, a late 80s Testarossa, an early 90s E500, a Raven CTS-V, a blue C5 and then I didn't quite catch the last one, it was either a 70s Ferrari of some sort or a Maserati. It was nice to see our beloved V in such a line up. I looked on their website and it is for sure an '04 V.

It was nice to know that after seeing all of these exotic cars, the car that got me to check out their website was a car worth 1/4 to an 1/8 of the cost of the majority of the other cars shown on the show!

Decided to bleed my clutch yesterday because I have all the normal symptoms of the T-56 trans. Trouble finding 1st/ reverse and so on.

While under the car I also was trying to pinpoint the leak that has has been staining the driveway for the past few weeks.

I noticed the under side of the trans had a decent amount of fluid on it up by the bellhousing. When I let the car down off the jack a puddle of trans fluid came out. It was coming from the bottom of the bell housing right where it bolts to the motor. There is a "vent" on the bottom of the bell housing that is maybe 1/4" x 3" long and this is where it was leaking out.

What could cause trans fluid to leak out like this????

"man, there's 3 layers of finish on these wheels, a sealer, a primer, and the paint, paint blasts off w/ ease but the rest of this stuff is tough. Either you are going to have to get some paint stripper or its going to cost double to get them blasted just by how difficult it is to get this stuff off"

I told him to wait and not do anything until I call him back. This is just another simple thing that has gotten complicated.
Any feedback? What has your experience been?

I took it to a trans shop for some flushing and new fluids and the after it was up on the lift they showed me rear diff fluid dripping out the bottom of the pumpkin and all over the exhaust. The guy told me "your rear differential is bad" without any other explanation. I dont get much of a whine or notice any other indication its "bad." It's also the 06-07 model and was put in prob 20k miles ago. I took it to my normal mechanic and he clued me in on a recall for a faulty ring and pinion gasket (or washer i cant remember) so I'm gonna try and get a dealer to do something about it for free.

So now it's headlight encasement cracked and no headlight, rear diff breaking and there's still an annoying noise coming from around the sunroof. And no more warranty.

1st, I've been having an annoying rattle at speed coming from the lower passenger side of the windshield. While changing the cabin filter I found that the windshield washer fluid line loosely goes through the pass. fender then routes around the hood hinge onto and under the hood insulation. Well...its just laying there and rattles around -1 zip tie firmed it up and I've been rattle free since.

Diff...my brand new diff: drove it a few hundred miles, drained, refilled w/ Royal Purple 75w90. I did not add the limited slip lube because RP says not to since they have it in already. So a few miles later the diff starts to moan when turning deep...low moan, but what could it be?

Lastly, I bought an lsx engine crankcase filter. When installed where the oil cap goes it digs into the hood insulation. Of course that irritated me. SO...the filler neck, if I popped it off would the valve cover be threaded to hold a cap or the crankcase filter or am I just out of luck? Also, how does that filler neck come off?

Thanks

The rims are straight. The paint isn't the greatest. I was going to refinish them and have an extra set of black but I like the GM optionals. Plus, I'm going on vacation and could use the extra dough.

FUEL RAIL COVERS or ENGINE COVER I mean. I'm old enough to have been fooling around with Chevrolet V8's in the late 60's and early 70's and back then we ran painted steel, chromed steel or polished aluminum valve covers. To me a cover over the engine is an abomination. If the manufacturers can't make the engine look nice then shame on them. Granted the Corvette fuel rail covers don't look too bad, but I would rather have the engine exposed in all of its mechanical glory. Anybody else?

I've thought about hanging the V cover on my wall as a decoration and putting Corvette covers on the engine, or just leaving it naked.

I may not be capable of this hack and I'm not inclined to do it right now anyway, but I was thinking about it.

People have expressed the desire to swap out the radio/nav head unit but were held back because of the potential of losing the controls. I was looking at exploded views of the nav on the faq and it occurred to me that the thing has a lot of empty space inside. The functionality of it exists in the couple of circuit boards, and those could potentially be located elsewhere and still function. So a person could disassemble the factory unit, move the components around, maybe even eliminate the CD and DVD players, move the screen down if you want to keep it, and free up an area of space above what is left to put an aftermarket head unit in there.

Any of you real adventuresome guys want to take this and run with it?

I'll try to be short. My car almost 100k mi. This afterrnoon I went to lunch and it has a big Torque steer problem . Accel it goes left let off it goes right. Never a problem before and it spends most of its life on the highway since it was new in 5/04. Anyone have a similar experience and what was the problem or fix? Broken engine mount?,suspension part? I'd like to have a clue before I take it to the dealer so I don't get ripped off or to help speed the diagnoses. Thanks Jeff

Well, this weekend my headers and alternator cable had a bit of a 'fight.'

It was the last track weekend of the year. I started getting a few weird warnings on Saturday on the nav screen. I had Service Air Bag soon pop up for a second and disappear. It's not the first time I had some miscellaneous random warning pop up to never reappear again so I thought nothing of it.

Then about halfway through the last session I had 'Service Stability System Soon' come up and stay. I pitted early and everything seemed fine other than having to stability control or ABS. Bad wheel sensor or something? So hoping maybe it was a misc thing that happened to get into the system, I disconnected the battery over night.

First session on Sunday, about halfway through 'Service Stability System' is back but no other apparent issues. Figuring I don't really need it anyway, still did the second session. Well, that time around the Nav screen starts flipping out throwing all sorts of different Service this Service that and totally glitching out and restarting itself multiple times. Then the car starts sounding like it's missing or something (wasn't really sure at the time with everything on my dash flipping out) Needless to say, I pitted as soon as possible.

Somebody told me they actually saw sparks coming from underneath the car while on track. I end up finding the alternator wire literally inside of one of the header tubes. All of the protecting loom and insulation around the wire had burned off and then the wire cut through the pipe. Huge hole. Crazy scary stuff. I'll get pictures eventually.

So anyway, long story, but watch out for those wires. :tisk:

Oh, Kooks headers that have been on for over a year and 15,000 miles with 12 track days. So it wasn't something that came up right away or something.

My clutch pedal was a little low the other morning and I was having trouble getting in reverse. Checked the fluid and it was low and VERY dark.

I bled the crap out of it and noticed that the fluid coming out of the valve was a real dark coffee color :hmm:

Anyway I ran about a half a bottle of the DOT 3-4 synthetic through it, drove around a bit and bled the system again to get ALL that gunk out of there.

I've never seen fluid get that dark except on really old vehicles. Anyone know why the fluid was so dark?

Now the pedal is releasing pretty high. Is this about right?

Thanks

He owned a plain CTS for about 3 years, then recently traded it for an SRX because his wife could get into the SRX easier. I was outside yesterday when he came out so we talked for a minute. He said he had his SRX back to the dealer for a little work so he was looking around in the showroom and spotted 2 new CTS' in there. He said one was stickered $51k and the other was stickered $71k. He couldn't understand why the new model was $30k more than the one he bought 3 years ago. So I had to explain to him about the LSA engine, supercharger, advanced suspension, etc. I've previously explained to him about the V8 in my V, but I don't think he fully understands what the V is.

My lightly-used (11,000 miles) 2005 V gave me a "Check Coolant Level" message the other day. I took a look in the reservoir and, sure enough, it was about a quart low.

But what bothered me most was the presence of some brownish gunk in the reservoir. Not a lot, just a couple of sludgy clumps clinging to the sides and a general brownish film overall.

So I'm thinking that the system needs a good flushing and fresh coolant. Anything else that should concern me about that goo?

Is there such a thing? I have come to the conclusion that after looking for V's for my buddy that I want one as well. I took a test drive with him and the torque from that big V8 got me hooked, no more 4cyl for me, something about the classiness of the big sedan, and raw power from that V8....

With that said we are very limited with selection up in Canada. I have found a bunch online all over the different states, but I am always leery about buying something like this without seeing it in person, and travelling to see it is not always doable.

Is there some sort of service you can hire that will inspect the car for you and give you a unbiased point of view? Things like bodywork or accident damage etc?

I don't rely on Cardax or Carproof because I have ran those tests before and come back clean, then took the car in to get inspected by a shop I trust and found out that it had been in an accident and they must have paid cash.

Looking forward to finally owning my own V soon.

Friend of mine checked out a 2007 V for me. It has 28k on it. He said while test driving it, he said the driver door arm rest felt a little loose, the brake light on the trunk seemed to jiggle when closing the trunk, some of the chrome around the hood felt a bit loose. He has never been in a V before, so he didn't know if it was normal or not.

I'd like to find out what kind of little things are "normal" on the 06 and 07 V's so I can tell when examining them for possible purchase. I did some searching on the FAQ but didn't see info.

In addition, is there a VIN sticker on the trunk lid? Most cars now have them, but I wanted to be sure when I check the V's I am looking at.

Thanks.

This is following my maggie install this week.
I'm having a problem with the car starting after its been sitting for a while (a while meaning overnight). It sounds like a fuel problem as it will start, run for a few seconds to a minute then studder and choke and die. If I try to give it some gas during, it will die on me. After 15 mins or so of trying, it starts and stays running and then I can drive it. If Its been recently ran, I can start it up no problem at all but only after it sits over night its hell getting it going. Any ideas?

Under WOT, I get no studdering or hesitation, so I'm assuming my magnavolt is fine. The A/F on the dyno was normal.

On a side note, my installer is going to order and install a walbro intank 255, Then I can get rid of the damn magnavolt completely. This should help in my conversion to E85

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what the fix for it was.

My car blows cold air out the driver side, I can't get heat out of it no matter what I do. The passenger side works fine though.

So, my first thought is that it's the motor (actuator) that opens and closes the flap for the heat.

But, when I start the car in the morning it's cold obviously. Usually the hvac fan will stay off until the car warms up enough and then it will start blowing heat. What's happening now though is that the car starts blowing as soon as I start the car.

I can't quite figure out why this would be happening. If I jack the temp on the driver side way up or way down it starts blowing like crazy so it seems the HVAC computer itself is ok.

I'm thinking maybe it's the thermometer? If the termometer stopped working would it default to some base temperature? The outside temp these days is around 50, I have my hvac set to around 75 degrees. That would mean that the default would have to be below 50 for it to think that the car is too warm and it needs to fire up the fan right away then no?

What I've had to do is leave it on vents only, close the driver side vents, and point the passenger side vents towards me.

Thanks to anyone for help,
Robin.

long story short. 6 months ago i got a speeding ticket in Nevada for doing 5 mph over the limit (its true, and yes its ridiculous) :nono: the address on my license was not current and i had told the officer that. he said Nevada state law says they mail tickets to the address on your license. i never received any info about it and i kinda blew it off. well i didn't know that another state could suspend your license and not notify you. i got stopped on halloween being the DD for my buddies and the next thing i know i am spending the night in jail and having my car towed. 2 cops were searching my car and went through everything! but they still didn't see my tinted windshield. Arizona does not take kindly to driving on a suspended license. $750 later to pay for a warrant, get my license reinstated and to get the V out of car jail i am back on the road lol.. so if any of you guys have tickets in other states don't forget about them because it will bight you in the ass later on down the road.
and go ahead and get that windshield tinted up...

A teaser shot:

A while ago I had suggested that one could possibly get a 17" SRX wheel to clear the V's brakes, and that such a wheel would make a great spare. I still have yet to get my hands on one of those wheels to test my theory, but a couple weeks ago I found an option that's even better - an SRX mini spare! It's a 17x4" steelie with a 145/75-17 tire. I picked one up (with the tire) off www.car-part.com for a whopping $55 shipped all the way across country - I figured that was a cheap enough price that I could afford to buy one and play. :)

Once I had the spare in hand I had to figure out how much of a spacer I would need to make it fit (if it would fit at all). Measuring inside the back of the wheel I was thinking I was going to be able to get away with a 2" spacer, but when I actually put it on the car with some bits of metal tubing slid over the wheel studs as spacers it was hitting the caliper. 2.5" didn't work, either, and 3" was looking pretty damn close. I was worried that my idea wasn't going to work out, but I decided to gamble on the 3" and hope that it cleared.

Searching online I found a number of places that made fat ass wheel spacers. There may be cheaper options out there, but the best price I found was http://www.motorsport-tech.com/wheel_adapters.html. Note that you want the "Wheel Adapters" portion of their site, not the "Wheel Spacers" - their spacers aren't thick enough, but their adapters come in fat ass sizes. I did a 1 piece, hubcentric to the vehicle but not hubcentric to the wheel, 3" thick spacer, which cost me $105 shipped. If I had chosen to do hubcentric to the wheel as well I think it would've been another $20. Hindsight being 20/20 I would've spent the extra $20, as the steel wheels have the typical shallow lugnut holes that don't center the wheel all that great. But, again, it's only for temporary use, so I keep telling myself it's not that big a deal. :)

Today I was all excited at work because I knew the spacer was going to be delivered and I couldn't wait to get home to test it out. Yeah, I'm a little strange.

The monster spacer:

A couple more shots of the wheel installed and how it sits relative to the fender:

Crappy pics of the caliper clearance:

Not perfect, but it clears the caliper by probably 1/8" - 1/4" in both direcations. As you can see from the fender alignment shots, much more than a 3" spacer just wouldn't be practical, but as it is now it won't rub the fender lip. (Keep in mind I'm running ~1" lower than stock on the KW coilovers). I haven't tried it, but I'm almost positive this would not clear the rears, as the rotors are a little larger diameter and the calipers thus extend a bit farther out. It would be really, really close, so probably smarter to just do the double swap if you got a flat in the rear (spare on front, good front on rear in place of bad rear).

I haven't driven the car on the setup yet, but I don't anticipate any issues - after all, it's just a temporary spare, so I don't plan to drive on it for extended periods or at significant speeds. A couple questions yet to be resolved:

(1) If I've pulled over on the side of the road with a flat, how do I install and torque the spacer in place? When I torque lugnuts on a wheel, I lower the jack to rest enough weight on the tire so that the wheel can't spin as I torque the lugnuts. Obviously I can't do that with a wheel spacer being bolted to a hub jacked up in mid-air. So, I'm thinking I'll put a pry bar of some sort in the spare tire well that I can brace across the spacer's studs and use that to apply counter-torque while I tighten the lugnuts to hold the spacer on.

(2) What will Stability Control do? The tire is a bit over 1" shorter than the stock 245/45-18 size, so I'm guessing the size mismatch would not make the Stability Control happy. However, my thinking is that with the flat tire in the trunk, the TPMS will still "see" 4 sensors, so I can just go to Stability Control Off. That's something I'll have to test. ABS will probably be hosed up, too, but again this is just for temporary use, so I can survive without that for 50 or 100mi or whatever.

So, for $160 I have a spare that fits in the spare tire well and actually gets my trunk floor back to being flat. Hooray! It's also 10# lighter (even with the spacer) than the stock wheel and 225/50-18 tire I had been using as a spare, so that's nice - a 0.26% reduction in curb weight! :p

Hi all,
Ok i need some help/clarification here. Just brought my 05 V home Saturday, and tonight it left me sitting (luckily in my aunts driveway). Drove there perfect, would not start to leave.

Put key in, lights all come on, fuel pump primes, etc. Turn key to start, and nothing. No cranking no starting.

If the Passkey 3 system disables the car, what exactly happens? Im pretty sure the little security light comes on and stays on when you turn the key on but dont remember now. When you turn key to start everything but check engine light goes out and no cranking.

Is it common for the key to go bad? Or for the system to lose connection with they key? Should the security light come on then go out like the other lights if everything is working normal?

I am going back down there tomorrow to investiegate further, but any extra info would be great.

Thanks
Tom

The window seems to be "hangin" in its tracks. It won't stay up and I'm able to manually slide it up and down. I'm going to remove the panel and start looking around, but thought I'd post to receive feedback from you all. Thanks.

So I'm doing my usual on ramp entrance except the group of cars in front of me are creeping along and I'm winding 1st out to about 3000 rpm. I get an opening, nail it and grab 2nd gear only to grind the crap out of it and then it will not go into 2nd. I go head to 3rd and no issues. Now I cannot get it into 2nd, up or down shifting, without grinding the heck out of it. All the other gears work fine. Came home today starting in 2nd or shifting 1-3 and all was well through the rest of the gears. I believe I toasted my 2nd gear syncro and I am looking to the vast knowledge of this group for my next best option. Put in a new syncro or opt for a rebuild and from where? Any and all info is appreciated.

My buddy is looking at a CTS-V and he has seen a few 04's but after doing research it seems the rear diff issue is very common in these beasts.

He is buying it used, off warranty so he wants to make sure it will be reliable. He isn't a street racer and doesn't drop the clutch stop light to stop light, but he also doesn't like the idea of the diff just exploding for no reason.

With that said, is the 06-07 more reliable, or was the little change GM did on the rear diff not very noticeable?

I have searched many forums but there doesn't seem to be very much talk about the diffs after the little change thats why I'm asking.

thanks.

Tried doing a search on this, but the results were limited due to the engine not liking 4 characters or less.

I've noticed that the STS-V utilizes the 4.4 northstar engine with a supercharger, and makes a considerable amount of power over the 5.7/6.0 CTS-v engine, yet the performance figures for the STS-v seem lower. Is this a gearing issue? Is the CTS-v overall more of a performance sedan than the STS-v? Any information is helpful. I was just curious when doing a bit of research.

Thanks guys!

Just going to make this short and sweet and I'll answer any questions when asked, that's if anyone can help!?

Installed a new Iraggi 300amp alt, had tight spots during steering, changed to new smaller belt to compenstate for the smaller pulley, still same issue. Now while driving I'll lose power for a sec than everything will kick back on (engine still running) gauges will flash off than back on almost like I turned the ignition off than back on...Any Ideas?

Same issue just a lil diff-Pull on to a main ave started to accelerate hard than "it" happened again but I lost some motor power too, like the car bogged for that split sec. than everything was fine.

Any suggestions guys I'd really appreciate them!!! Thanks in advance!
