I've searched with negative results...

Okay, this is totally frackin' ridiculous! Up until a couple of days ago I've been tapping into some of the speaker leads coming from the Bose amp in the trunk to get my remote input. But for some odd reason it's quit working lately and only provides enough voltage to intermittently turn my aftermarket amp on. Additionally, ever since I initially wired it I noticed that every time you open or close or lock or unlock the doors or open the trunk it gives the wiring coming out of the Bose amp a temporary voltage spike that in turn activates my amplifier and THUMPS my sub. But whatever, at least it worked...

But for whatever reason these wires no longer provide enough voltage (around 6 volts tops) to trigger my amp to come on. Again, whatever...I'll just find another wire in the myriad of wires in the trunk that provides 12 volts whenever the stereo is on, right? WRONG!!

I just spent the last two hours with my voltmeter checking EVERY wire and fuse in the trunk and could not find ANY that provided a dedicated circuit for the stereo. Both radio-related fuses in the trunk fuse box provide 12 volts ALL the time, not just when the radio is on.

Seriously? Is there not a single wire in the trunk that only provides a 12 volt source when the stereo is powered up? Am I missing something? Even the main, large red w/ black stripe power wire that goes into the Bose amp has power running to it ALL the time.

Am I going to have to settle for a wire that is powered at all times when the ignition is on? I mean, I guess this is fine assuming I want my amplifier on whenever the car is running regardless of whether I'm listening to music or not. I'm just a little miffed at my inability to find what I was looking for.

Rant done.

If someone knows something I don't, please chime in!

Tony

Hi guys, new to the boards. Has anyone attempted to change out the bose woofer in the 07 escalade for something different? Is it even possible? I would like to add something for a little more feel but want to keep it discrete and can't find any applications or any information. Everything I've found (JL, MTX) doesn't have an application for the Escalade. I have the second row captains chairs and want to keep the back open for hauling around things so a big box isn't an option for me. Thanks for any input.

Ok i posted a while back about making two fiberglass boxes for my 00 Deville, well now its time to get to work, but i have two questions, the first one is i see people using masking tape to make the form in the trunk, do i have to use masking tape or can i use clear box sealing tape, and can i use a plastic sheet taped down instead of using a lot of tape? I have unlimited access to the plastic sheeting and the clear tape, im not cheap but why pay for stuff i can get free?? In these two pics they used tape, one regular masking tape the other green tape. my boxes will be like these two so i can save on weight and trunk space, and make for a nicer system. Oh and i do have a third question, is there a noticable difference between the sound these boxes make vs. a regular sealed or ported box? I just dont want there to be a huge difference between the pro box i have now and the two fiberglass boxes, i know there will be i just dont want to be pissed off, any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

i'm picking up an 03 deville tomorrow and want to install a jvc 810 in-dash dvd/nav. i've been reading through all the info here but it gets confusing and contradicting so i'm hoping somebody can clarify what i plan to do...

for the install i'll need the harness for the steering controls to work and either the gmos 03 or 06 to keep everything else functioning? i can't recall if it's bose or not, i do know it's not factory nav though. i'll know tomorrow for sure but i'm 99% sure it's non bose/non nav. but would i still need a regular old wire harness or does the gmos take care of that?

from there i can just run everything else like a usual install, correct?

i also see people talking about keeping the orig head unit stashed somewhere and i haven't exactly figured out why yet. is there something i'm missing?

thanks a lot.

I have a pioneer deh-p4100ub stereo I would like to put in my 96 Eldo (non Bose). Question is, where do I get the plug in harness or do I have to splice wires? Also, I would like to keep the steering wheel controls and the chime alarm if I could. I know they make them, but I don't know which units I need. Installer.com makes "GMRC-03" (chimes), and the steering wheel control unit is "PAC SWI-PS". Problem is, I'm not sure if these are the right ones. I don't know which wire harness to get. If anybody is familiar with this I'd really appreciate it. If I have to sacrifice the wheel controls and chimes, so be it. But it would be nice to have them.
Thanks

I'm New!

I recently purchased a 96 STS last week. The bose stereo sounds great, but being a 21 year old with a new toy. well you know the deal. Regardless, my 12 disc changer is broken in the vehicle, and i was wondering if anyone has replaced this with another rear-mounted changer other than stock, or replaced the front Head Unit and just left it at that. I honestly don't know any parts, nor can i find generalized aftermarket parts that seem to fit. And emphasis on a clean interior or close to stock as possible. I dont mind getting creative or getting my hands dirty.

Ideally, I want to replace the dated stereo controls with a maybe a 4x6 touchscreen, and wrap that in a matching woodgrain and forget the disc changer.

Im all for ideas, pictures, anything.

Thanks for the help,

I just purchased a 1997 Catera with the Bose system in it and I love this car but the only issue is that it only has a AM/FM Cassette player. I have a new Kenwood KDC MP738U stereo that I had purchased right before I totaled my last car. I want to put this stereo in the Catera now so I can listen to CDs and my iPod.

My questions are what am I going to need for the install? Just the dash kit and the GMOS-06? Also the back of the Kenwood only has 2 RCA jacks, will that be an issue because the GMOS-06 seems to have 4 RCA plugs?

Any help ASAP would be great! I'd love to ordered the equipment I need and get to work right away! Thank you!

2003 CTS w/o Bose

My friend wants me to install four speakers, and a JL cleansweep in his CTS. He says the car has the non-Bose premium sound with a factory amp. His idea is to install four speakers and the clean sweep into the factory radio and amp system. I'm about 99% sure this won't work (as far as installing in the JL), but he isn't convinced.

Im a correct? The factory radio doesn't have RCA outputs and the factory amp doesnt have RCA inputs, Correct? Also, if we figured out a way to use LOC's would that lessen the benefits of the JL's auto-eq and calibration?
I told him it would work if we were also installing amplifiers as well.

He bought it online and the salesperson said it would work with his system.

Thanks for the help and advise.

I've got a 2004 ESV, and I already have an aftermarket radio installed with the integration kit and all. I've seen the factory amp located under the pocket in the center console. It looks like there's just two plugs. Has anyone bypassed this amp before? Is it as easy as plugging those two plugs into a bypass harness? Does a bypass harness even exist for it? Does anyone know if the door chimes will still work?

I admit it. I want it all.

I have a 2008 STS V8 and want to unlock the Nav so it can be used properly. I know about the LockPick and where to get that from.

I also want to add HD Radio and be able to use it with out doing away with the XM or Aux inputs. Is it possible and what do I use to make it happen?

I want to see the station and the program or song displayed that's playing. It needs to be compatable with the LockPick and I don't want to loose anything that I currently have.

Has anyone configured this yet? If so, what did you use, and who did you get it from?

What kind of money am I looking at?

And most importantly, does it work like you expected it to?

Thanks,

Lewis :hmm:

I have an 07 CTS with the 6 disc bose system. Here is my problem;

Last Spring I swapped the XM for Sirius. (because Sirius is far superior to Xm in regard to reception) I went through 4 Sirius units b4 I got one that worked right. (I'm guessing temp has something to do with it as I was doing this as it was getting warmer.) Anyway I would get a hissing static from the Sirius unit which could be activated/deactivated by simple things like tapping the brake or tapping the shift lever button. So it was intermittent. A sudden voltage drop from tapping switches here and there, but it wouldn't do it every time. After the 4th unit the problem was there a few times at first and went away and has been fine until a couple weeks ago. The same problem has come back. (weather is getting cold again)

Here is my guess. There is something wrong with the factory head unit. But seeing as there are no problems with the system outside of the Sirius application, (including XM as it was subscribed to for a short time) I don't see how the stealership could diagnose a problem shy of installing my Sirius unit on another car which I highly doubt they would do. So the cost of not finding a problem would fall on me, even though it's under warranty.

Here are my thoughts for a solution. Get a used head unit, swap it in and see if the problem repeats itself. If it does, then I know the problem is with Sirius and I can turn around and sell the other head unit. If it doesn't, well then problem solved.

Your thoughts?

Im trying to run the subs through a RCA converter and the rear sub/speaker wiring. Can someone please tell me which wires(out of 4) do I connect with the power and ground of the RCA converter?

Also I hear you that the rear deck can can be fitted for a 10" "free air" subwoofer, who makes a "free air" subwoofer that fits? Can it be wired to the factory amp?

Hi
I want to show you a pic of my Pioneer AVH-P400DVD install.
A two din is longer and narrower than the original HU.
Did involve som wire cutting and splicing as I was not able to find a adaptor wiring, and some cutting inside the radio cave is required due to HU lenght.
Also cutting of the wood trim bezel wil be neccesery, a black filler bezel is included with the new Pioneer.
I replaced my base radio, I know the Bose system is worse to replace.
The radio illumination can be set in several colors also green so it will
blend in good with the dash illumination. Also has a clock, tiny though.
I replaced the speakers as well.
Regards
