I have a CL55 and looking to trade in for a CTS-V.

Granted cold and new tires (60 degrees), but my test drive (automatic) left me wondering about the car's traction. I drove the CTS-V at Monticello Race Track in the Spring and the car gripped like it had race slicks.

- Barely (3/4 throttle) getting into the gas in 1st gear (traction on) car bogged down for several seconds before recovering. sport mode auto

- Same thing with traction off was a waste of time. sport mode auto

40 mph roll even had the car step out on me. This thing felt so slick that it wasn't very pleasant to drive with just a hint of spirited driving.

Owners: Is this a common problem? If so, modded owners must have a heck of time getting traction down. I've drag raced and road raced for years and I would have no chance of getting 0-60mph in under 4 seconds with this car. Anything close to full throttle under 40mph or so just spun the tires.
Thanks!

Chris

I have a question, I am hoping I can get a good answer from experienced owners here on the forum.

I currently track my '09 V once or twice a month. I love how well the car handles, runs, brakes etc... What I don't like is how much I am using up tires and what my options for tires are for this car in a 19" size. What I am looking to do is the following:

Replace the current PS2's that have no more shoulders with with Pilot Sport A/S models and a 45,000 mi warranty.

Purchase a second set of 18" aluminum wheels for the track and shoe them with a Dot R tire.

I want to go with the 18" wheel tire combo for the track as it allows me to find many more tires in a better price range for the track. They also should give me lower rolling mass, and more torque to the ground.

My questions,

Do I need to put in TPS monitors on the 18" tires

If I don't put them in, and the DIC flashes warnings, when I clear it, will the TPMS issue mess with the active handling or traction control?

If it does, could I clear it, until I get home and put the stock road wheels back on and reset the TPMS?

If I do put in TPMS monitors on the race day wheels, do I need find a way to flash the computer to accept the 18" tire/wheel combo, and then flash back when I get home?

I'm about to take delivery of my ordered '10 CTS-V next week - can't wait! :bouncy:

Anyway, I ordered the optional polished wheels, and I was wondering if they are clearcoated, or are they raw polished aluminum? Do I need to polish them to keep their luster, and will they pit and corrode with winter road salt? If they're clearcoated, they should be nearly maintenance free. But if not, they will definitely be work.

Thanks.

During a recent visit to D3 I had their roof spoiler painted and installed. I had not seen a picture of one on a black car, but boy was I impressed. It compliments the lines of the V well and adds a little style to the roof line.
I can not stand much chrome accenting on cars. Although I like it along the CTSV windows. I had the chrome strip above the liscense plate painted and in my opinion it should have came that way from the factory. It looks much cleaner.

So I spent a week in Germany and rented a BMW. My first time ever driving a BMW. The 2nd day it starts throwing a CEL and says that engine power has been reduced. The 3rd day the engine turns off while I am traveling about 50mph. Not a nice situation!

Don't even get me started on AVIS Germany, who had me drive to the BMW dealer for this just to find out the mechanics can't look at it for 2 hours and then would have to call Munich for warranty repair authorization!! I had to get on the road so the only other car at AVIS was a little Citroen econobox. So that is what I ended up driving on the Autobahn: a little box with tiny wheels and a laughable engine. Passing was an exercise in patience, to say the least. I did get it up to 110mph but it took like 5 minutes to get there and it would start to shake.

Meanwhile I had to watch the BMW, Mercs and Porsches fly by on the left lane at insane speeds :( If only I could have had my V2!

Got home and into the V and let her rip. Felt like the first time again :)

I just felt like sharing this sad little Autobahn story...

(I know from some of the posts here that people aren't always happy with the service or the problem wasn't fixed properly the first time) In order to use it you would need a Service Request (SR) number.

If there's been a prior post on this topic, I didn't see it. So, found a set of pads for our V2 on http://www.autopartswarehouse.com They are PBR brand and offer very low dust, gentle on the rotors, quiet and performance equal to the OE pads. (Their words, not mine) They're made in Australia and the company has been making brake components for over 70 years. They're very reasonably priced at $126.00 for the full set. I've run Hawks on my 06 V1, Raybestos on my Z06 and my Prowler with good results. The brake dust drives me nuts! If I lose a touch of performance for little or no dust, that's a workable trade-off for me, as I don't plan on tracking the car, and if I do, I would always be able to put the OE pads back on. So my question....has anyone had any experience with PBR pads in the past? Performance, dust, pedal feel, etc. compared to OE????? Dick

So, I've been getting some brake squeak at around 12k miles and called my dealer for a quote.

What they said was that the wear tolerances for the rotors was so small that it was assumed that they would need to be replaced and not turned.

Front Pads: $385 Pair
Front Rotors: $352 Each

Rear Pads: $143 Pair
Rear Rotors: $145 Each

Total: $1522

Can someone else confirm that the rotors cannot be turned? I know about Hawk pads but is anyone making aftermarket rotors for our cars yet?

Almost 2 grand in brakes every 10k miles seems crazy to me. I haven't even driven the car that hard.

Thanks for any input.

My trip to Houston for the 9 inch crank pulley install is covered in my other post, and I am pleased with the results performance wise.

I got back from Houston on Tuesday, and on Friday afternoon, on the way home from work, I noticed the CEL had come on, and the coolant temp gauge was reading a little hotter. After the install, the temp was stable two lines below 220 (180?). Stock it stayed around what presumably indicates 200 degrees F. Ever since the CEL came on, the temp fluctuates between 180 and 200, and I can't hear the radiator fan. The car runs fine.

It sounds to me like either the fan broke, or is disconnected. The stat stays open, so the temp never gets out of control. Big deal? No. Annoying? Heck, yeah. What to do now? I guess I'll end up going to the dealer and have them fix whichever problem it is (no doubt I'll end up paying, since the area has been messed with during the install, and the computer is instructing the fan to come on at a lower threshold now).

Do the cooling fans tend to fail more with a cooler t-stat, given their increased duty cycle? Still, three days after the install seems a bit premature.

Any other thoughts?

The local track I race at closes tomorrow and I already had Sunday plans, so I decided to see if I could best my times from a few weeks ago. Seeing as my Cobra will be back in action shortly, I figured the "V" might not get a another chance to race for a long time.

The weather was "OK", but not great (1180 ft. DA). Still have the same mods: Pulley, W4M Air Intake, W4M tune, everything else is stock including the tires. I really didn't think the car would go much faster, but when I saw ReadytoRoll's post and saw his stellar 60 fts., I thought I might get lucky and be able to get out of the hole better than I had previously. Even though there were only 37 cars at the track throughout the day today and there were periods of inactivity, the track was still hooking pretty good. Here's the timeslip scans of the last 4 of my 5 passes (couldn't fit the fifth on the scanner). I was happy to be in the 11's on every pass and even happier I was able to whittle off a fair amount of time of my previous best 11.74:
Mods:

K&N Filter
Lingenfelter SC Upgrade (tune, pulley, Airbox Mod, Snout ported and polished)
Corsa Sport Mufflers

The dyno was a mustang and my understanding is it is traditionally 10% low.
If this is true then I figure about 531 rwhp and 517 max torque.

While we always hope for more, I guess this is ok for my DD.

Thoughts?

Not sure I'll keep XM radio. But I do like the FM Traffic feature. XM radio charges $10 month for FM Traffic as a stand-alone (or $17 if you combine it with the radio part). But you can buy a lifetime subscription to FM Traffic for $50 with a lot of portable GPS units. I'd like to do that with the V's navigation system. Just don't know if anyone has done it--or if it even can be done.

I may be splitting hairs here, but I've found that the memory seats (to include the steering wheel as well) do not seem to remember the EXACT position. In other words, if I modify the seat and/or steering wheel position slightly for best comfort and then store the new position in memory, the car never seems to get the new position right when it recalls them upon re-entering the car. It seems there's a never-ending battle that takes place between myself always re-adjusting everything and what the car deems is the last saved position. Anyone else notice this?

I had one of the first Vs, at least on this Board. Short Throw beat me by a week, and I am interested in his remarks as well. I have the following comments:

1. Never been back to the dealer--priceless. (do my own fluid changes) So far everything still works.

2. Better experience than with my 06 M5 which had annoying issues

3. So far , best Caddy I have owned after a STS, XLR and XLR-V

4. Had the wheel clicking at 6k miles and went away on its own--never heard again and I did nothing

5. Not happy with having to get Winter tires but did it after advice from Short throw who was right. (Suttos)

6.Only mods were the Corsa touring replaced with sports (you can thank me for bitching to Corsa ) and 3M bra (not really a mod but all my cars have it)

7. Nothing bad to say. This so far has been the best sedan I have owned and I would buy another.

When I bought a car from Bob Lutz we had a long conversation about the V and what went into it and I was more pleased than ever that I had bought the car. Since then I bought my wife an Escalade and I am not sure there is a better combination of cars.

Note: All of this is subject to change if the car craters tomorrow, and goes in the shop.:)

Curious to know if when at a stop light from a stop and manually shift into 2nd, that the car is actually in 2nd when I begin to accelerate. The rev's seem right but I am just checking. At intersections with snow with my other autostick I would put it in 2nd and disable TC to try to get more traction.

Well, I went ahead and did it. I took my car back to Hennessey to have the work done. They work with a ton of these cars, and they treated me right last time. So we went to Houston for a little R&R, dropping the V2 off on the way. I went with the crank pulley because it is a faster install, is reversible, and doesn't require taking the SC apart. I expected an about 30 HP and maybe 50 TQ improvement. The following numbers all come from Hennessey's dyno.

Before: 521 RWHP, 485 RWTQ (temp in the low 90s)
AR Headers, Hennessey intake, tune.

After: 571 RWHP, 555 RWTQ (temp in the low 80s)
Only addition: D3 crank pulley.

My stock numbers were: 457 RWHP, 464 RWTQ.

So I got 50HP and 70TQ (almost 15% increase) from the mildest pulley, which took me from maybe 7.5 psi (lowish after the headers) to about 10 psi (barely over the stock 9psi). No complaints here. The change is quite noticeable, especially, well, everywhere. 4th gear almost feels like 3rd did before. 6th is impressive on the highway. I feel like a goofball saying that the car is more "driveable" with the extra TQ, but that's how it feels. That is a comment usually reseverd for cars that needed more torque, not one that could roast the tires at will stock. The extra TQ (reaching its peak at about 3600 rpm, and above 500 from 2500 to 5500) really enhances that "any gear, any time" feeling. Traction is another issue, but already was from the factory.

I think I'm done with performance mods. My wife doesn't believe me, but after reaching the level I wanted with my S4, I didn't touch it for 4 years.

Forza Motorsport III has some great graphics. It does not have a real Mercedes-Benz sports car (like my SLK350 6-speed) instead has the stupid SL65 Black and other sleds. However, it does have the virtual version of my other car, the CTS, although my 2008 CTS is a 3.6 DI model (no V available at the time) and an automatic as I bought it as a gift for the other half.

Here is my virtial car, custom dolled up by me. I do not know how acurate the game is as I have not had the CTS on the track in the real world (you can see me giving 911 Turbo's the tailights on Homestead with my SLK by going to YouTube and searching for RacerCub68.) I did get D Stock letters in hopes I can get the CTS on the track without being killed by my other half.

If any of you want to knock paint with me via XBOX360, my gamer tag is RacerCub68. Be warned, my virtual CTS-V is fully modified up to 890 HP. It can do about 202 MPH but then it goes all light and crashes.

I just picked up my 2009 CTS-V and with 500 miles I noticed oil spots on my garage floor. I took it to the dealer, they replaced the valley cover and said it was fixed. 50 miles later, I have oil drips again. I did my own investigating and found the valley cover has a hairline crack. So, back to the dealer again tomorrow.

I guess I am just in tune with my hearing as this is not the first vehicle I have had this issue with. I have minor popping from the sunroof or perhaps the trim ring around the roof and also have some minor noise coming from the headliner except that noise is right above my left ear and I can clearly hear it when going down the road. I'm sure most people would not notice or care about these noises but I can hear them and they were not there when the car was new. Anyway, today I took the car to the dealer to take care of the noises (and TBS for clicking wheels) and even made a tech drive the car so he could hear the noises. Needless to say, the noises are still there. I wish I could find a dealer that actually cares to fix something right the first time. End of rant.

My son and I both use the Invisicord to power our radar detector from our mirrors. Bought one for the V2, but I haven't figured out how to hook it up. Both the C5 and C6 Vettes allow you to pop out the wiring harness from the mirror and just pop in the leads for the Invisicord.

If anyone know how to do this, please let me know. Here's a link for Invisicord (which says it will work on a 2009 CTS and I believe our mirror is the same): http://invisicord.com/

After dreaming about it for over a year last night I have picked up my new V2. What a car!!! I love the power and the solid feel of the car. I traded in my 2005 V1. Got a tremendous deal on new 2009 black, automatic with all options except Recaro seats. What a improvement over the previous model. No wheel hop but lunching with out spinning tires is a problem for me. I will have to experiment with TC and suspension settings.
After the winter here in Canada is over I'm planning to take it to the track to see what it can do.

So far I'm very happy with the car.
Now I have to find snow tires for it. Mucho $$$$.

TC in normal rather than 2 clicks into sport? It seems that excessive wheel spin is a problem and TC is designed to fix that. I would think that normally TC is in the background not doing anything waiting for out of range input to activate.

Assuming for the moment that it only kicks in when you are spinning might that not help the launch times?

Just wondering.

Thanks,

Took the beast in for an oil change. They had a deal of a free oil change and just pay for the Mobil 1. They also had hi-test gas for $1.50 per gallon if you were in there for service and they threw in a detailed car wash (unbelievably perfect job they did, it really looked brand new!) Total with tax and 9 gals. of gas was $68. Sweet.
Now for the point of this thread.
The service adviser said that they do lots of performance work there and that they would warranty the mods they do for 4 years and 50K miles. They also said that nobody is going to measure the pulley anyway, so not to worry if taking it to another dealer.

I asked if they would put it in writing and they hedged on that. I am still leery of the effect on the warranty. In any event, for myself, it is really unlikely that I would ever move or for that matter abuse the car so much while I was on a trip to ever have to go to another dealer. That being said, the idea of the dealer doing the work makes it more likely that the warranty won't be a problem.

The problem is the cost. They were quoting $14K for a pulley, tune, headers and exhaust and air box mods. Seems too high to me and certainly out of my budget. They claim another 130 hp from the investment. That would certainly put an extra strain on the motor. What do you guys think?

New source of wheel clicking?

Several thousand miles after having the TSB performed to stop the front wheel clicking - I noticed clicking from what I thought was the left front wheel (or front end) when making a tight right hand...

Several thousand miles after having the TSB performed to stop the front wheel clicking - I noticed clicking from what I thought was the left front wheel (or front end) when making a tight right hand circle (U-turn type turn). The dealer reported the following:

“Right rear outer axle joint splines burred. Causing click when torque applied to axle. Test drive raise and inspect. Install chassis ears to isolate source of noise. R+R outer joint from knuckle. Clean joint, joint splines and re-torque flange nut to proper specs.”

I'm not totally sure what the above means (please tell me if you understand) but the car no longer clicks? Could this have also caused a "clunking" noise that I was hearing from the rear end when I changed from drive to reverse and visa versa? The rear end was also "groaning" when I backed out of the driveway in the morning (when car was cold). I asked the dealer to check the differential fluid level and they claimed that the differential was full of lubricant and did not need any more. For now, both the clicking noise from what I thought was the front end, and the clunking noise and the groan seem to be gone. How likely is it that the dealer found the differential fluid low and simply re-filled or changed it - and did not want to admit it was low? Is there a way to check (Cadillac customer service?)? I can’t imagine they would change the fluid without somehow charging GM for the service.

What do you guys think?

It is the end of the year for most and I figure all the time slips are in. I'm curious what are the best ET's for stock (including tires) vs. modded ET's that we all got this year. I know geography, DA, etc. affect the numbers a bit but I'm looking for a collection of times so we could maybe have some data that can be compared to. Maybe give some people ideas of where they would want to go with modding and what not, other than those that just buy everything

Or, we could just post up the numbers and brag...

I'll start with mine of course :p:
11.99@118
AT
mods: none

Then we can get Gary W. to put it all in excel for us

I have 30 days to decide whether to purchase R.O.A.D. Intire tire and wheel coverage on my 2009 CTS-V. The cost is $995 for 5 years. They say they pay off on curb rash as long as you say you hit a pot hole. Somehow, I don't think it's that easy. I not only don't worry about the tires, but based on my history with the 2004 V that I just traded, I'll bet I'll be in a different brand of tires within the first 15,000 miles.

So any experience and any opinions.

I had one of the first Vs in April, 2004. Had 5 1/2 (mostly) great years with it. Have been on the Cadillacforums since June, 2004.

But I just couldn't pass up a 2009 White Diamond V with everything except Recaro seats. With $12k off sticker (GMS and GM incentive) and a generous trade-in on my 2004 V, it was a no-brainer (although I guess i should have told my wife before doing the deal).

Looking forward to making new friends on this forum.
