I have been having some problems with my 95 STS. I have been getting a lot hesitation and bogging and the fuel pump seems to be fine. I was told that my PCM could be faulty do to me having a bad heater core leak. Now I do know that i need to get a PCM with the same service number on it and take the PROM out of my old PCM and put it into the new one. Is there anything else I need to do? Any help would be appreciated, I've had this car for a month only and has been nothing but problems.

29,900 miles and as I was just about to finally say the CTS is performing really well the dreadful MIL light came on. This afternoon as I did some errands I notice the light and decided to call OnStar. What a waste of time! Second time I used them in last 2 years and the same result, e.i. NO RESULTS! They are absolutely useless!
Anyway, I pulled over to a nearby AutoZone and they read the code – P0024, cam shaft sensor malfunction. It seems that it is quite common issue with the 3.6l engines as my research showed. The same problems plagues Chevy, Cadillac and other brand, all equipped with this engine.

The problem is I have to go to the airport early Monday morning so the only day I can take her to the dealer is next Friday. We will see what the dealer has to say.

Now I may safely say: the CTS is the most troublesome car I have ever owned. It already spent more time at the dealer that all my past cars combined! Talk about GM quality and reliability. And some on this board bashed CR, TrueDelta and J.D Powers when they published reliability and quality statistics and the results were not good…

Sorry for the post but I wanted to make all of you guys aware of the possible problem when you get closer to the magic 30,000 miles.

It seems to me that the mufflers on the 2010 hang down more than the previous models. In fact I can hardly see them on previous models. Also 2010's are silver while I think previous years are painted so they blend in. The passenger side seems cocked also. They feel solid, so they're not loose. If someone happens to be around a dealership could you check it out and let me know. Thanks in advance.

My lightly-used (11,000 miles) 2005 V gave me a "Check Coolant Level" message the other day. I took a look in the reservoir and, sure enough, it was about a quart low.

But what bothered me most was the presence of some brownish gunk in the reservoir. Not a lot, just a couple of sludgy clumps clinging to the sides and a general brownish film overall.

So I'm thinking that the system needs a good flushing and fresh coolant. Anything else that should concern me about that goo?

I am selling a set of 26" Gianelle Steep 6 wheels. I am giving the truck to my wife and don't trust her with 26's. I actually have 8 of these wheels. Four are in good condition with 2 month old Nitto NT420's, so they are practically new. These Nitto tires are much better than Kumho's which I have run on all of my other wheels in the past. The other four, 2 have scratches on the lips, and the other two have chrome peeling around the lug holes. If you know someone that can fix them you could have a full set spare. Two of these have Kumho tires on them with about 50% tread. Five of the 8 wheels have the tires pressure sensors in them already. If someone has a set of factory's they want to exchange for these let me know and we can work something out. I am looking for brand new factory 22's or really close to new. Let me know, my number is 410-916-5165 and my name is Jim.

The black matting behind the inner finder (at the door opening) is soaked. Could this be the heater core all the way over here? If so how do I change it. Read the directions from Haynes but doesn't seem to be for my car. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The car started stuttering like if it wanted to turn off but didnt only when stopped. When the car is going its fine.

Is there such a thing? I have come to the conclusion that after looking for V's for my buddy that I want one as well. I took a test drive with him and the torque from that big V8 got me hooked, no more 4cyl for me, something about the classiness of the big sedan, and raw power from that V8....

With that said we are very limited with selection up in Canada. I have found a bunch online all over the different states, but I am always leery about buying something like this without seeing it in person, and travelling to see it is not always doable.

Is there some sort of service you can hire that will inspect the car for you and give you a unbiased point of view? Things like bodywork or accident damage etc?

I don't rely on Cardax or Carproof because I have ran those tests before and come back clean, then took the car in to get inspected by a shop I trust and found out that it had been in an accident and they must have paid cash.

Looking forward to finally owning my own V soon.

Not bad but enough to be annoying when you can move the steering wheel a little to the left or right and not have the car change direction. I'm figuring a tie rod end is probably shot, maybe a ball joint. But no, not for a Cadillac owner. The steering rack is broken :wtf: Not sure exactly what he meant when he said that, I'm assuming a mount let go. I want to see it before it goes back for the core; $329 for a reman + ~$200 installation + an alignment :rant2: Break My Wallet

I just inherited my mothers 96 Cad w 45,000 miles which sat in her garage for a long time. My wife and I drive it only on Sunday's. After my first 1000 miles on it, the AC compressor failed. Had it replaced. Mechanic said it through a lot of trash but flushed it good and often before putting on new compressor. Now the heater is not working. Fans blow but know heat. Faint heat near the duct can be felt when fans are off. Engine comes up to temp but only one of the heater hoses going into the firewall warms up - the other one remains cool. The engine does not overheat when driving. Coolant level OK. Any direction here would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 2006 STS-V with relatively low miles (27k) and have suddenly developed a rather loud rattle in the engine. It happened after rapid accelleration upon passing a couple of cars yesterday. I didn't notice it until I was back in town traffic. It occurs only when I release the gas pedal to decelerate. It is quite noticeable upon slight accelleration, such as in traffic, when closing a gap and then releasing the throttle, to coast a ways. Also when pulling away from a stoplight and decellerating after reaching cruise speed. I have tried to duplicate it in the garage and I can still hear something, but it doesn;t seem to be as noticeable as it is when under the load. It almost sounds like valve train noise. Has there been any complaints of such a problem that I have missed on the forum, and if so, what was the ultimate diagnosis. I can't take the car in until Monday, and I would love to give them a direction to take, since they are not all that familiar with the V's here at my dealership. I get the feeling that they 'EARN WHILE THEY LEARN' on mine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Has anyone gotten the skinny on this new option for 2010 and whether it can be ordered for a 09? I assume this Cadillac approved dealer option would use the OEM headrest and probably displays the caddy / cts logo on start up. I haven't been able to confirm that aftermarket sysytems like Rosen and Vizualogic would use headrests that look exactly like OEM. I know they claim factory match to color and stitch but the OEM headrest has a specific design and not the standard box look you see often in aftermarket dvd headrests. anyone ask yet?

Is the bose system really all the bad, back in the day yea but now they are in Nissans. Also I really just wanted to put some more base but the bose amp isnt the best.
What do you cadillac owners think about this set up, Ive heard the alpine with fosgate well be the best set up?

Hi guys! Just became the owner of a '94 Seville SLS with the N* last week. I paid $500 for it from a guy who got it from a police impound auction (LOL). All he had to do was replace the starter to get it running.

It runs well, shifts well, and has way more power than I'm used to. The cabriolet top is intact and aside from a few dents and scratches the paint is in decent shape. No radio, but I'm working on that. It needs exhaust work and I'm trying to diagnose some problems.

So now the bad. It leaks oil, and after searching through here quite a bit and learning the awesome news about the oil pan, I went ahead and took out all the bolts (except that 15mm one, no wobble extension), cleaned em, and thread sealed. Unfortunately, I don't think that fixed the problem, though it may just have reduced the leaking. I've only driven it about 30 miles since the oil change and pan work and I'll see how much oil is under it tomorrow morning. :D

So I pulled the codes yesterday while changing the oil:
P039 (E039) ..... Torque Coverter Clutch/Viscous Converter Clutch Engagement Problem
P052 (E052) .................................................. ..... PCM Memory Reset
P109 (E109) ....... Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Reset/PCM has lost primary battery power
I052 .................................................. ..... Keep Alive Memory Error
A048 .................................................. .... Low Refrigerant Pressure
S036 ...................... Electronic Level Control Compressor Short to Ground/Open
S038 ................... Electronic Level Control Exhaust Valve Short to Ground/Open
S044 .................................................. ... Lift or Dive Signal Fault

All History, not Current.

So! After new hood struts, air filter, low beam bulbs, oil, oil filter, washer fluid, and a semi-thorough cleaning of the oil pan and surrounding area, I reset the codes. Drove some, and it still drives! :D I got back and pulled the codes again, and here's what I'm getting still:

P039-H, A048-H, and S038-H

I think I just need to top off the refrigerant for the A/C, but what do the other two mean? Faulty wiring in the suspension somewhere? That P039 kinda worries me.

Also, when I filled up with gas, the needle was buries on empty. It very very slowly crept up to near-full after about 5 minutes, but would randomly drop to empty again. Any idea what would cause fuel gauge fluctuations?

Also, the parking brake doesn't disengage when I shift to drive or reverse. Is there any way to manually release the brake? If not, how might I fix this?

Just want to say thanks to all you Caddy freaks! This site has been great help so far.

Friend of mine checked out a 2007 V for me. It has 28k on it. He said while test driving it, he said the driver door arm rest felt a little loose, the brake light on the trunk seemed to jiggle when closing the trunk, some of the chrome around the hood felt a bit loose. He has never been in a V before, so he didn't know if it was normal or not.

I'd like to find out what kind of little things are "normal" on the 06 and 07 V's so I can tell when examining them for possible purchase. I did some searching on the FAQ but didn't see info.

In addition, is there a VIN sticker on the trunk lid? Most cars now have them, but I wanted to be sure when I check the V's I am looking at.

Thanks.

OK, I did a little research but have not come up with anything. I have been looking at a few things for the V and have come across a train horn kit with compressor and tank that I am seriously looking at installing on the V just for those mindless drivers that never seem to notice that there are other people on the roads with them. I also have been looking into this because I have been looking into the air bag suspension mod to for our cars as well and having a air source at all times would be nice for that as well. My question is if anyone has ever attempted anything like this? Also, considering the compressor needs to be in a more conditioned space I thought that the empty spare tire well would be a great place to put the tank and the compressor... if they would all fit. The compressor would be no problem but I know that that the tank is going to be the biggest issue as far as fitment is concerned. the kit that I am looking at has a 2.5 gallon tank and the tank is 23.5 inches long and 6 inches wide and 7.5 inches tall. The compressor is 9"x4"x7". What do you guys think?

Whaddya think? Much like the GT-R, I don't think it's a good looking car, but it definitely sticks out. Lexus must have cast iron balls to try and sell it for nearly $400,000 (Motor Trend estimates MSRP at 395k). Why are they shooting so high? I doubt it'll sell for that much money.

93 sts w/ 4.6l. strutmaster passive struts.. I purchased this car awhile back- and the dic flashes the "Service Ride Control" and I've had enough!!

It has strustmaster "passive" struts in it...I've been searching for weeks and can't find a detailed fix for the annoying "service ride control 84" on the DIC..

the guy I purchased the car from told me he had the struts installed at his local mechanic- but the idiot mechanic never followed the instructions to disable the code on the dash.-- the harness's in each wheel well are just hanging there...(I talked to Strutmasters, but they won't help me cause I'm not the "purchaser" of the struts)

.. I've been searching for weeks and can't find a definite fix for this.. I;m assuming a resister would go inline to the harness at each corner to "fool" the computer.. but I need a little more guidance... I did find a "fix" from a member, but he talks about going in through the trunk, and wiring through to a relay under the hood, and hooking up resisters in the trunk etc etc... he talked about 1.5 to 3 ohm.. etc etc... This sounds like it could be just done at each corner instead.

Can I just hook up resisters to the harness's on each corner with 2 ohm (5 watt) to replicate the factory suspension??

anyone out there that can help?

Thanks a ton!!

Hey guys

So last time I drove the car it ran like a champ. 3 days later (today) I started up and it idle really badly. After 3 or 4 mins of idling it starting idling like normal. Really smoth. So I leave my house and less then a mile away at a stop sign the car dies on me. I then start it up and drive it home. I start it again an hr later and it is idling bad again. I go to drive it down the street and it dies less then a mile down the road. When it died the car was just coasting at about 10 MPH. Seems to die when im not pushing on the gas. Also wile I have it idling in park I will give it gas but when I let off the car will start to sputter and almost die or just die…

Recently I changed the fuel filter and it passed smog last weekend…

People have suggested it could be the fuel pump or the cat is clogged. Any other opinions before I start going down the list…

Thanx!

Hi there,

I would like to know the standard tires that come on the 2009/2010 Escalade.

I specifically need to know if they are All Weather Tires or just standard tires.

As I am sure most of you on here know the website says the standard tyres on the AWD model are "With P265/65R18 blackwall touring tires."

So are these All Weather Tires or just standard

Reason I ask is that I am renting one of these out of Los Angeles to drive around the California ski areas and Hertz cannot answer my question. :bigroll:

Thanks :)

I'm headed to the Cadillac of Crossovers drive event this weekend to see how the 2010 SRX matches up against the BMW X5, MB GLK, and Lexus RX. It spurred me to write a bit about why I like the original SRX so much. It's a quandry - I like the 04-09 because of qualities that the 2010 doesn't really have, but I see why Caddy did what they did with the 2010 and think it will sell better because of the changes.

If you care to take a look, here's the link http://eastbounddown.com/2009/11/com...-mercedes-glk/

I've also got links to most all the Car and Driver articles on the 04-09 SRX from their first drive of a prototype to the comparo where an 07 Northstar SRX comes in 2nd, in between an all new 07 X5 and 07 MDX.

I have a 2001 Deville, in the morning my car has trouble starting. I have tried all keys and none work on first turn. Dealer ran codes and the following showed:

B1327

The battery was replaced and the chip in the steering column was replaced. I are still having the problems in morning starting the car. It starts after a couple turns of the key in the morning. In the afternoon leaving from work it starts on the first turn and for the rest of the day. It seems to only have this problem in the morning after the car has sat in the garage all night.

What seems to be the problem?

Thanks for all the help you guys have given me over the years.

Apparenty its a cam issue. Anyways being friday they said no big deal bring it in monday. Anyone heard of this code. Could it damage my engine? I just bought my CTS. I know things break but only had it for two weeks. Is it safe to drive as service manager said? Could it be possible severe damage has already been done? I know I'm being paranoid but would appreciate others advice. thanks in advance. This forum is awesome.:worship:

03-early 04 CTS non nav head unit works as a code reader for all 03-07 CTS's and 04-07 CTS-V's

I had a stock early version disc changer from my CTS that I could pull all the codes from using the method in the FAQS. I upgraded to Nav later on(from an 05 0r 06), but the code reader part in Faqs didn't work. So it got me thinking it wasn't a change in the car but rather the head units for 2003/ early 04 CTS non Navigation System.
So having the stock changer left from my CTS when I sold it, I got the dealer to unlock the theft lock on it while installed in my V, not sure if it work or not.
Taking out the old head unit and pluging in the CTS changer takes like 2 Min.
Unlocking the theft lock cost 50.00. Sure enough it pulls the codes, I pulled a wheel sensor off just to F* with my stabilty system and throw a code. It pulled it and I was able to clear it.
The CTS code reader pulls every code from the car, not just engine codes, but body codes, chassis codes, and network codes.
You can find the base CTS head units on ebay for around 100.00 or less, most people think they are relatively worthless, not knowing about the code reader, the whole reason I held on to it. You should be able to tell if it's an early model because they have a cassette player in them.
To pull codes for the 03-early 04 head units, follow the instructions in the Faqs.

Press and hold the F1 and F6 buttons simultaneously; the Driver Infomation Center (DIC) will clear and a menu will appear to read and clear DTCs. (Need to confirm this method)

Anytime I have any problem I can just swap out head units, then pull and clear codes. Should serve me well untill I get a tuner.

This is following my maggie install this week.
I'm having a problem with the car starting after its been sitting for a while (a while meaning overnight). It sounds like a fuel problem as it will start, run for a few seconds to a minute then studder and choke and die. If I try to give it some gas during, it will die on me. After 15 mins or so of trying, it starts and stays running and then I can drive it. If Its been recently ran, I can start it up no problem at all but only after it sits over night its hell getting it going. Any ideas?

Under WOT, I get no studdering or hesitation, so I'm assuming my magnavolt is fine. The A/F on the dyno was normal.

On a side note, my installer is going to order and install a walbro intank 255, Then I can get rid of the damn magnavolt completely. This should help in my conversion to E85

Anyway, I was curious if it's possible to remove the front emblem and replace it with one of those crystal/grayscale emblems? Has anyone done this?
Another thing is that the orange side marker is bothering me. I was wondering if there's a guide on how to remove it and replace it with white ones, or should I just not even bother and tint it instead?

2001 non-sport, 166,000 miles
- P0411 code several times a week
- Rough idle when started cold
- No issues once the engine was warm

Solution
- Replaced MAF sensor

One trigger for the P0411 code is failure to detect a lean condition during a cold start as it should with the extra air introduced by the secondary air injection system. During a cold start the MAF sensor must have been mis-guiding the computer causing an unexpected fuel-air ratio as measured by the O2 sensors. Once the car warmed up and closed-loop control was established the car ran fine.

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what the fix for it was.

My car blows cold air out the driver side, I can't get heat out of it no matter what I do. The passenger side works fine though.

So, my first thought is that it's the motor (actuator) that opens and closes the flap for the heat.

But, when I start the car in the morning it's cold obviously. Usually the hvac fan will stay off until the car warms up enough and then it will start blowing heat. What's happening now though is that the car starts blowing as soon as I start the car.

I can't quite figure out why this would be happening. If I jack the temp on the driver side way up or way down it starts blowing like crazy so it seems the HVAC computer itself is ok.

I'm thinking maybe it's the thermometer? If the termometer stopped working would it default to some base temperature? The outside temp these days is around 50, I have my hvac set to around 75 degrees. That would mean that the default would have to be below 50 for it to think that the car is too warm and it needs to fire up the fan right away then no?

What I've had to do is leave it on vents only, close the driver side vents, and point the passenger side vents towards me.

Thanks to anyone for help,
Robin.

Hopefully this will help someone else that needs to R&R their radiator.

Disconnect battery.
Remove 3 plastic allen head screws and pull off the black plastic cover over radiator header and headlights.
Disconnect wire and remove air cleaner box (pull up on end of box to free from rubber grommets).
Remove radiator cap and drain radiator (can cut lower hose to drain, if necessary).
Remove upper radiator hose (not necessary to remove lower hose from the radiator).
Disconnect wires from both fans and remove the 2 bolts from top of each fan that hold it to the header and lift fans out (held in at bottom by slotted rubber grommets).
Disconnect transmission cooler lines and plug lines.
Remove 7mm machine screw that holds A/C line bracket to driver’s side of radiator (hardest part of the job!).
Remove the two bolts that hold the electrical gizmo in the center of the radiator header and move it out of the way.
Remove the 3 bolts the hold the radiator header to the body and remove the header.
Remove 6 bolts that hold A/C condenser end brackets. There is one on the top of each end of the radiator and four on the front of the condenser. Lift and wiggle those brackets out (they have a tang that slips down into slots on each side of the radiator).
Lift out radiator. (note: good time to replace the front motor mount, if necessary).
Run water through the new radiator to flush it out, remove transmission cooler plugs, screw 7mm machine screw into boss on side of radiator to cut threads and then remove screw (makes it much easier to install later).

Reinstall everything in reverse order of these directions.

NOTES:
It is easier to replace all the GM hose clamps with aftermarket that you can tighten with a screw driver. If you insist on using the GM clamps, install the lower hose to the new radiator before installation.
Don’t forget to add at least 3 stop leak pellets (I crushed mine and poured them into the bottom hose) and it should take right at 2 gallons of 50/50 mix Dex-Cool coolant.
Run engine until warm, check for leaks and after cooled down (next day) check coolant level.

What happens is that I can turn on the cruise but it won't activate. It used to be intermittent, and then I would have to tap the brake before setting it and it would work. Then nothing at all.

What can I do to fix this?

Would this be for the back ones? I drive less than 40 miles a day, nothing real demanding and I don't ride the brakes or anything like that. I did replace the fronts with ceramic pads. The NAPA guy said that was all they had in stock and they were high. Do they wear out that fast?j Thanks in advance for any commments, they have been very usefull in the past.

My dad came across this 1994 Eldorado with 70,000mi. He is thinking about buying it from a friend. I believe it is a touring model. It is in really good condition, but it is suffering from a bit of engine trouble. It's got milky white oil, so we are guessing a head gasket has gone bad. What's a repair like that likely to cost? Or could it be something worse?

My question is, How much is it worth in its current state? And how much is it worth in running condition if we were to fix it?

Here are some crummy pics. Sorry for the quality, but they are all I have right now.

I had noticed a small puddle of antifreeze under my 06' STS a couple days ago. I tried to find the leak, thinking it might have been a radiator hose, but the leak did not appear to be a hose, so yesterday I called Montrose Cadillac in Greenville, Pa and set up a visit. They confirmed that the water pump was bad, and it would cost me a little over $600 to repair. Needless to say, my blood pressure went thru the roof, as I was assuming I had a warranty on this car. (It has about 52,000 miles on it now). The lady told me there was no warranty showing on the computer, so this would not be covered by Cadillac. I got quite excitable, and told her I should have the Certified Pre-owned warranty. Well, long story short...come to find out, the dealer I purchased the car from had put the warranty info in the wrong section of Cadillac's owner info sheet. The lady dug deeper, and did find out that I did have the CPO warranty, and told me not to worry, the repairs were covered. Whew!!! It took me the rest of the day to calm back down, but I was VERY happy to pick my car up and have a balance due of $0.00!!! So Kudo's to Montrose for taking the time to dig deeper, and being patient with me in my excited state. Their workmanship was excellent as well.

Her name is Sylvia and she has a few problems. She runs a little hot, which is unfortunate. She runs hot at idle, but then cools off when i get her up to speed, but the needle does not go straight up. She doesnt overheat, but the needle goes up one tick. She seems to take longer to start than my other eldorado and she seems to idle a little low. She spent all her life in St Louis and coming down to Texas may have had some sort of affect on her...She came with a 30 day 1000 mile warranty so i wanna take advantage of that while i got it.

Hi, I have a 2005 SRX with the Bose Stereo and I was wondering whether anyone knows whether if you customize the Base, Equilizer, etc. while your on the preset EQ settings, does it change them permenantly, or do they reset as soon as you go through again and and select the same one again. The reason why I'm asking is because in my opinion the system doesn't sound as good as it used to, and I'm thinking it was from people playing around with it.

If I did infact change the original settings, is there anyway to reset them?

Thanks.

I was looking at the battery in the trunk yesterday.

Silly question ..

What's the proper procedure to disconnect the negative lead?

There is a black rubber covered lever that looks like its locked into place. I can slide to out to the opening, but it does not release or move up or anything obvious.

I'm used to the older cars with the locking nut to loosen, but don't see a nut on this one.

Is there some special tool you have to use, or am I just not seeing it? I don't want to exert any excessive force and break something, so I just slid it back into locked position.

It's probably very obvious, I'm just being cautious.

Thanks..
At speed between 110-120 km/h the steering wheel shakes... It really spoils all the fun of driving it fast...

Just picked up a 99 Catera 2 days ago and would like to change the plugs since the PO had no idea when they were last changed. Subscribed to ALLDATADIY since I could not find a repair manual locally. ALLDATA says tool J43301 is required to remove the coil pack. Any suggestions on a source for this tool and is there an alternative way to remove? When I belonged to an other make forum, they had a loaner agreement where as you could borrow a specialty tool from another member, just pay shipping both ways. Anything like that here? It saved a lot of unnecessary expense since most specialty tools we very seldom used. Thanks...Bill
