Unhappy 93 Sedan Deville Electrical Disaster

Remove this ad
I have a bit of a problem with my DeVille and I don't know much about automobiles. I figured this would be the best place to seek help. This is what happened:

I had a cell phone charger in the cigarette lighter outlet, when I removed it some metal parts came out of the end of that cheap charger. A spark ensued and my clock is dead and my radio wont tune (though the speakers will turn on and make funny noises.) Also, my radio antenna will not go down. Interestingly, the seat belt reminder will chime but it is much slower and lower pitched. Also, the light that lights up my speedometer has just stopped working. I don't know if this is related. I'd like to figure this out before more electrical systems fail.

Does anyone have any ideas? Do you think it might just be a fuse? Where can I find my fusebox?

I appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks.

I woul try fuses first, cheap and easy. Fuse panel should be above the emergency brake, just under the dash inside the drivers door, may have a cover over it.

does the car start fine? I had a penny stuck in mine which drained the battery quite a bit before i relized it.

Re: 93 Sedan Deville Electrical Disaster

I'm thinking it's a fuse, I had a dime that fell in my car lighter hole and blew a fuse.

Check the fuse box lid to see which fuse it would be according to the 'fuse key'

You might as well check all the fuses to see if their burned out, if they are they will have a crack or break in the little wire inside it.

Remove all pieces of the charger from the socket, then with the key on, car off, use a test light on both sides of every fuse. You will probably find the yellow 20 amp fuse labled BODY as the blown one. That fuse keeps constant power to the radio station memory, dome lights, cigar lighters and on some cars power door locks.
