Problem with body control functions

Remove this ad
I am having an problem that I can't find. It is on a 1998 Eldo. It does not happen all the time, but seems to be more frequent they symptoms are:

After sitting, it will not respond to the key transmitter
Doors will only open with key
No interior light when door is opened
Fuel door will not open
Trunk will not open
Trip, fuel used history is lost
Door locks will not operate even with the door switch

It WILL always start, but the alarm sounds untill I lock and unlock it with the key transmitter. The last time it failed I verified there was 12 VDC on the body control module. Also, when I try to open a door, or anything with the remote transmitter I do hear a relay pulling in, so I know it is getting the signal. The last time it did it I pressed the transmitter unlock button, and the driver door opened, I immediately pressed the open again to open the passanger door and it quit responding. I usually get the following DTC codes:

IPC
B1552
PZM
B1552
B2471
B2473
B2477

This is getting to be a pain. If anybody can help it will be greatly appreciated as I don't want to take it to the dealer. Thanks

Re: Problem with body control functions

B1552 - Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error

B2471 - Interior Lamp Fault

B2473 - High Beam Fault

B2477 - Reverse Lamp Relay Shorted to Ground

Anything make sense to you? I wouldn't worry about the first one. Concentrate on the last one first I think.

Re: Problem with body control functions

Some of your symptoms could be caused by corroded, oxidized, loose, or just plain dirty battery cable connections. Clean them up and tighten the bolts to 13 lb. ft. The positive battery connection might be more than one cable, so be sure to inspect and clean both surfaces of both end connectors.

B2471 is an interior lamp fault.

B2473 is a high beam fault.

B2477 is the reverse lamp relay fault.

B1552 is a keep alive memory fault that could simply mean the battery has been disconnected recently - or the terminals are corroded as in the 1st paragraph.

Re: Problem with body control functions

OK, checked the battery cables, found nothing. Did not expect to, as I cleaned them reciently and coated them with dielectric grease.
The condition happened again today. Got these codes:
IPC 1552
PZM 1552, 1558
Cleared codes and none came back. As stated previously the car always starts. This is getting to be a real pain. Anybody have any more suggestions...............pleaze.....I'm dieing here.
