'92 Eldorado Instrament Cluster, Last year I picked up, a '92 Eldo (trade-in) the caddy dealer had checked it out, but it had some things wrong with it, like window trim pulled up, a small crack in headlight lens cover, passenger seat recline, and one or two other miner things, for $3400.
I had a compression check done, its fine, no leaks, good tires, half way clean, no dents, paint looks good.
But after, or during a 800 mile road trip, on the way back that is. The instrument cluster went out, speedometer, gas gage, and tach, are anolog, the data center on the left, and HVAC controls on the right side are digital, I had driven 50 miles from filling the gas tank, so I guessed time of next fill.
And kept pace with traffic on the way back home, but while I was at my buddies house, the battery went dead, put in a new one, 860 amp Exide. I think it (cluster) reset itself, it looked fine, while driving the first 50 miles.
I pulled off the freeway, at Mountian Home, went to a GM Chevy dealer, to check it out, and have breakfast. They checked all fuses, wires, connections, and I watched them put it back in the dash, and it lit up like nothing was ever wrong with it. But only worked for the next 75 miles, and conked out again. That was after a $205.00 repair bill.
Before I have it repaired or replaced, could something else be wrong, say a sending unit or sensor, other than the cluster it's self.????
I've checked around on-line, and it looks like $250- 300.00 for a new/repaired one. plus labor!!!!
Without the HVAC controls, on it, I've driven my '79 Eldo for most of the winter, now I want to get the '92 on the road again. Any clues as to whats wrong?
Thanks!
