Camera in my rear view mirror?

My rear view mirror fell off in my 2007 EXT. Taking a closer look at it I noticed what seems to be a forward facing camera built in. Has anyone noticed this? If so, what is it for? Is it recording without our knowledge? What else could it be?

    Cheers

Part of the auto-dimming feature in the mirror glass ? Should be another small port in the rear-facing side, too.

........... or does your vehicle have an auto high/low beam feature ?

    Hello Malitow,

I am sorry your rear view mirror fell off. After checking the owners manual for the Cadillac EXT, I believe the button you noticed could have been the digital light sensor which turns the vehicles high-beam headlamps on and off. I see Submariner409 asked if you have an auto high/low beam feature, probably because of this feature. This is something that is associated with IntelliBeam, in which you may have never noticed this on your rear view mirror if you are not able to use the feature. If you would like to further discuss anything, don't hesitate to contact us via private message or by email at socialmedia@gm.com.

    Sincerely,

    Laura M.

Thank you for the response. That makes perfect sense. I wondered if my high beams were on the fritz. Now I know.
