    93 deville ecm replacement

I was looking around on this sight to see if I could find any info or tips for replacing my ECM. I will be doing the job soon and I pretty much know how to do the job, you know, the memcal chip and all that jazz, but I was just wondering if anybody had any tips on stuff to keep my eyes open for. I am replacing the ECM as a last resort, the car acts like it has a ISC or TPS problem but both have been tested adjusted and replaced along with the O2 sensor, thermostat and catalytic convertor, and of course a full tune up, filters and all,and the throttle body has been cleaned including the EGR tubes the car still has a surging idle ocassionaly and sometimes when I let off the gas I can feel the pedal move up and down, and everytime I shut off the car and get out the ISC ratchets for about 10 to 15 seconds, now with all that said, I should have mentioned that I have been checking the codes the whole time, and I have never seen a code pop on this car since I have owned it, something don't jive, thats why I am going with the ECM. On that note, again if anyone else has any advice, I'll take it!!

    Thanks, Jack

Hello Jack and all. I have a 92 Deville that I inherited from my dad. In his old age, he had not taken as good care of it as he should have. It had a blown head gasket so I had the motor re-built. Unfortunately, the people who did it, knew nothing about all the sensors and such and it appears they blew out the computer--I replaced it--ouch. The idle has never been right--too high or fluctuating. I had to do the "idle learn" every few days until I messed up the battery posts by unscrewing the bolts so many times. I finally broke down and let a mechanic put in a new ISC--I guess they are not made or rebuilt too well because the replacement was bad. He put in another one. Now, the gas pedal jumps around after I shut off the motor. I can also feel a slight pop of the pedal under my foot when I back off the gas while I'm driving. I have asked him about the TPS but he didn't seem to want to mess with that.(Perhaps he didn't know how to adjust it). Anyway, I don't have 50 posts so I can't PM anyone but would sure like to know if I have a throttle cable that may be binding or sensor I need to check. With the last bad TPS, I got a code 30 TPS rpm out of range. I am getting no codes on the new one. O2 sensor and catalytic converter have been replaced. I didn't want to break down and take it to the dealer--I'm not a rich man--but I seem to get a bad diagnosis or faulty parts from mechanics who are not Cadillac specialists. If this had not been my father's car, If would have junked it before I ever had the engine re-built but it was his car and I'm too far in to it to stop now....still need to fix power windows, radio, and AC but that's for another day. I really need to get past this problem.
