My 97 SLS set the P0404 code when the EGR valve was sticking open. The consensus on the forum being remove and clean the EGR to correct the problem. I cleaned mine three times but the code would set each time I drove the car about five miles. I ended up replacing the EGR and that fixed the problem.

I think the P0603 code is set when battery power is lost either by way of a loose or disconnected battery terminal.
