1992 Seville Totally Dead

While driving my 1992 Seville the car totally shut down. Dashboard went blank, engine stopped. It then came back up while still driving, so I continued to drive home. I parked the car in the garage. When I came back to go out again it was totally dead. No electronics, no dome lights, no anything, as if the battery were removed.

But the battery is fully charged. I've checked all the fuses and all looks good.

Any ideas on what I could check or do, or what happened? Thanks.

It sounds like a total disconnect, the first thing to check would be your
battery cables, are they secure on the battery end and on the engine
end?, maybe take connections off battery and clean them.

Re: 1992 Seville Totally Dead

Thanks for the quick reply.

Coincidentally as part of my posting here I made a couple of calls to local dealer's service departments. Unfortunately the Cadillac service dept. would not offer me any help over the phone, only the invitation to tow the car in and they would run a diagnostic on it. But the service manager at the local Chevy dealer was more than happy to give me some ideas.

First on his list was a bad battery cable. Armed with that and your same recommendation I went and examined the cables and did in fact find a bad negative cable coming off the battery.

Having had the electric dashboard fail on me once before I was predisposed to blaming it rather than looking for a much simpler solution.

After sitting and scratching my head on it for 4 months I get the correct answer twice in one day. Oh well it's 4 months fewer miles on it.

Thanks again for the help!
