My 96' deville battery is relatively new and indicates 14 battery volts on computer display, but she won't start sometimes, sometimes we have to jump-start it or charge the battery, I think it might be the alternator. Is There an easy way to replace it when it is on the bottom of the Engine!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S.- what brand of alternator is good for my car (assuming it is the alternator and not the battery)
Automobile(s): 1959 Cadillac, 1980 Cadillac,Former 2005 CTS-V; now a 2009 V
Re: alternator problems!!!!!
get your alternator tested first. for all you know it may just be a loose ground or connection or something. take your car to O'reillys or autozone and they'll hook the diagnostic machine up to the alternator and tell you what part of your charging system is screwed up, if anything
I have attached a couple of links that may be of help to you. Although you see adequate voltage prior to cranking the engine, if the connections are not clean you can get an instant resistance when placing the battery under load and demanding a high amp output.
