i just replaced the alternator after the battery light came on and my car died, it was reading "battery no charge" and after a while it said "battery low volts" and died... my question is the following........i am having the same problem now that i have replaced the alternator....DIC says like 8-10 volts with the car on...which leads me to belive the alternator is still not charging....is there something im over looking or does this just sound like a dead battery?...no prior charging problems. but i have put in a few subwoofers ...did i kill my car?
yea the battery is good, i assume, considering i drove the car for 15-20 miles after the battery light came on...also i threw a known good battery in and i had the same problem....i guess im just looking for another problem because i dont want to take the alternator out again since it was a bitch.....also the first time around i took out the radiator and all the front stuff ...will it come out the bottom of the bay?

Re: "battery no charge"
Did you use an aftermarket alternator or OEM? Cadillacs seem to not like aftermarket alternators. Seems there is some ciruitry missing in the aftermarkets so the PCM doesn't "see" the alternator. I recall someone on Caddyinfo board had a similar problem. The third time he put in an AC Delco, problem solved.
The alternator is removed through the wheel well after removing a splash shield.
