69' deville headlights suddenly out after minor electical work

Remove this ad
i was doing some minor electrical work on my 69' deville, i.e. cleaning points, cleaning distributor cap, checking timing, and now my headlights dont work. the back lights come on, and the yellow lights in front come on, but not the headlights. i checked the fusebox under the dash and none of the fuses are blown. someone said it might be the high beam switch, if i jiggle that they might come on, but they don't, and the high beams arent coming on either. any thoughts??

Re: 69' deville headlights suddenly out after minor electical work

The dimmer switch is a button on the floor. Lift up the carpet and verify the wiring plug is fully connected to the dimmer switch. I've seen the connector melt after years of use and will either cause intermittant headlights or no lights at all. There are NO fuses for headlights, a circuit breaker is built into the headlight switch.

Are you going to keep us in the " dark" regarding your lack of headlights??

Re: 69' deville headlights suddenly out after minor electical work

Yes, verify 12 volts to the dimmer switch, then 12 volts to each wire. Voltage should always be at the switch. Then with the headlight knob pulled, 12 volts to another wire on the switch, then pushing the switch to hi beam, 12 volts to the 3rd wire. Could be an open dimmer switch? Or no voltage to it.
