    cigarette lighter noise/battery/alternator

92 Deville noticed a humming sound from the cigarette lighter when some accesory is pluged in the lighter socket even if the thing i have plugged in is off. Left some things pluged in but they were off and i had recently had to have a new battery installed possible connection?
Also any clear way to tell if your alternator is bad before taking to shop?

If it's not charging your battery. Get a multimeter, check the voltage of the battery when the car is on. Should be somewhere between 13-15 volts. You could also take it to autozone and they'll test it for free.
