97 SLS Turn Signal Sounds "Loose" and intermittently stops flashing light&on dash

Remove this ad
About six months ago I noticed that my turn signals were making a weird sound. It sounds loose, or "laggy" but didn't seem to effect the turn signal itself, so I temporarily ignored.

Now about a week ago, the turn signal still makes the same sounds, but now it will stop blinking every so often, a few times a day. And I will either have to manually work the signal or fuss with it until it goes back on.

Can anyone please help me with what I need to be looking at?

Thanks in advance!

Best guess would be the flasher unit itself up under the dash on the driver's side, I believe.

Re: 97 SLS Turn Signal Sounds "Loose" and intermittently stops flashing light&on dash

I came across this post today when I started researching the problem. I have a '95 SLS with the same symptoms.

Boiled down to replacing the turn signal relay for $15 from my local parts store. But, the thing is not easy to find. You have to remove the plastic insulation panel under the dash & above the pedals. Then, dig around for the flasher clipped to the dash shelf to the left of the steering column. The hazard flasher is a round unit and easy to see. The turn signal flasher is rectangular and hidden. As a note, the section in the Cadillac shop manual pictures these as the reverse of that.

Good luck.

Re: 97 SLS Turn Signal Sounds "Loose" and intermittently stops flashing light&on dash

Would this be the same location of the turn signal relay for a 95 Edorado? My turn signals are also intermittent and gettting worse. There is a bank of relays in the trunk, back-side of rear seats, which has a turn flasher relay but the AC Delco part I purchased is twice as large as these relays and does not fit. So, I thought the parts store gave me the wrong part but, after reading your post I figured there must be 2 turn flasher relays...? One in the trunk & one under the dash as you described.

The new part I have has a metal clip on one side and sounds like what you described above. Pulled the insulation panel today but could not find this other turn flasher relay.

As I am laying under the dash *top of head pushes brake pedal* it should be to my left as I look up? Which is towards the passenger side.....I would completely adore any help!

Re: 97 SLS Turn Signal Sounds "Loose" and intermittently stops flashing light&on dash

it did end up being the turn signal flasher "module", took my mechanic 3 minutes to do the job. $14 part (shop discount)

fyi it is in fact under the insulation panel on the drivers side below the dash and above the pedals
