Re: How do u turn off DRLs (Daytime Running Lights)???

Take a look in the underhood fuse box. Is there a 10A fuse, #24, labeled DRL? Is so, pull it. No more DRL and everything in the headlighting system still works normally.

I'm going by the fuse numbers in an '02 STS, so if you can't find a #24 labeled DRL, follow the diagram/legend on the underside of the fuse box cover to locate a 10A DRL fuse.

DRL's are actually the high beams energized in series (less voltage, dim lights) by a relay in the fuse box which trips when the car is shifted out of P. Pulling the fuse disables the relay, so the system is still intact, just no power to connect the highs in series. Normal highs are connected as a parallel relay circuit tripped from the lighting and steering column switch actuators.

Well that didn't work, but thanks for the advice anyways. My Cadillac dealership said that there's no way to turn the DRLs off. Maybe I'm just stuck!

Re: How do u turn off DRLs (Daytime Running Lights)???

Somewhere in your car there's a relay which supplies 12V across the high beam lights in series. Find that relay and remove power to it. The relay only trips when the car is shifted out of P. Try another Deville owner or service manual.

Where there's a will, there's a way........

Yes (I think). At least my method was the only way to get it done on a 2004 Deville which is the same family as your 2001 version.

It is not as simple as pulling a fuse or a relay; how are you at DIY parts removal and replacement? The left headlamp assembly has to be removed.

Let me correct and expand my remarks based on a review of my Service Manual notes. What I did was change the DRL from the low beam headlamps to the fog lamps on my '04 DTS.

So for the base Deville in question, simply pull the 15A DRL fuse in the underhood fuse/relay box.

Memory is the 2nd thing to go.
