Ignition key computer chip / won't start

Remove this ad
Hi, and thanks for any assistance!

I have a '97 DeVille. The gauge cluster got fried. I bought a used one on eBay out of another 1997 DeVille.

The new cluster is in and lights up properly, however, the security feature won't allow me to start the car. I greatly suspect that something in the new gauge cluster won't recognize the old ignition key. (The key turns fine, so I think it is the chip.)

Any thoughts? How do I know what replacement key to order?

Thanks to all!

The car's VIN is programmed into several modules, including the DIC. If the modules aren't properly programmed the car will not start. Ever.

The new or replacement DIC needs to be sent out to a repair facility by a GM dealer in order to program the VIN and you must supply the certified original mileage also.
