I put the new PCM in, the shop programmed it and now their saying that nothing works even when the key is turned and it might have tranny probplems. This car has never had any tranny problems ever, it ran smoothly everyday even when the ignition problem was happening. This is a reputable Cadillac Dealership, so I'm torn apart. They want $500 just to start fully diagnosing it. I think I'm gonna grab it from them, this seems shady to me.
The "remanufactured" PCM can be bad, I still have the old one, I'm gonna put it in and see if at least the windows work when the key is turned.
The Dealership wants $150 for programming the PCM, but I'm not sure if I want to pay it since it only created more problems.
From your first post, I said it has to be a ground issue
You wrote "All power controls inside car stop working when you turn the engine ON... but everything works great when the key is turned and motor is OFF."
You did: Fuses, relays, battery, cables, PCM, ignition switch and more.
Additionally you were seeing changes if you started the car serveral times in a row.
Has anyone mentioned grounding. Check for grounding staps from the chasis to the motor, chasis to body, body to motor. Could be corroded, bad connections, broken or cut.
Take jumper cables and temporarily go from battery ground to the frame. Battery groung to the firewall.
Suspention modual?? Don't think so. Check for codes. Don't just throw parts at it.
The word is "strap" not stap, sorry for the mis-spell.
Grounding straps connect the body to the chasis to the motor to the batteries ground. They are usually flat braided copper strips with lengths 6 to 10 inches, bolted to the chasis, body, motor and transmission. They complete the battery circuit.
If the connection is not complete the issues you are having are explained.
My suggestion to supplement the ground with jumper cables is to detect a change.
Take it to a trusted mechanic and have them look for the gounding conditions.
It finally works as it should. The shop told me ~$1700 to replace Suspension Module, I don't have that kind of cash to invest into this car right now so I went to pick up the car from the shop.
When I started the car, the windows and everything in the car works!!!
Technically I don't know what it is, but I assume it was a loose or dirty connector somewhere and when the mechanics were diagnosing the car must've touched it up or tightened it ( JimD ). Everything works great now.
Thank you everyone who chimed in and helped me with this issue, it was a great learning experience. There is only one other problem with my car (oil leak) and I'll post it later.
That is good news! And a loose or dirty or corroded connector is/was the most likely culprit. And that could also apply to your suspension module connectors right now!
Looking back over the posts, there are several clues that I didn't give enough weight; post #11 "intermittent", #13 "car has been sitting", #16 "the more I start the car".
There are a couple different minor issues with the car, I'll post different threads after I look into them.
Thanks again for all your input.
