I doubt many of you have seen this commercial. It's put out by the city health dept and probably only airs in the New York metro area, but it is creepy as hell. It's an anti smoking commerical featuring a guy with one of those voice box things (like Ned from South Park) with a hole in throat (trachyotomy I guess). The whole commercial takes place in the bathroom with the guy talking about how smoking ruined his life through the voice box while he cleans his throat hole. Ummm. Isn't there a better way to advocate not smoking then showing this half naked guy Q-Tip his neck hole? I mean I guess it gets the point across but this commercial is just weird. I think a few photos of black smokers' lungs would suffice.
It is definitely freaky but that is the point. It's supposed to be an image that is scary and will stick in your mind. HAHA see the effect it had on you?! LOL Yeah I hate seeing stuff like that but they are just trying to get their point across.
Back in High School health class (dark ages - 1975) they made us watch a film of a surgery to remove a cancer-ridden lung. Nobody wanted lunch after that. Then we saw another movie of a guy with one of those throat holes - SMOKING a cigarette through the tube! Bleah!
But I still smoked, for 21 years.

Re: Creepy Commercial
I just saw that commercial last night. I think it's a bit too graphic!! I quit cigarettes last December 15th, after smoking on & off for 40 years. I also quit cigars. However, I never inhaled, and I smoked very mild cigarettes and a pack lasted me 5 days, so I smoked 6 pack a month. Feel much better not smoking and have more $$$$ for booze (jus kidding) ~ no booze.
I saw that too.... I already quit three weeks ago so I shouldn't have to see that.....
I never friggin started, how do you think I feel. Anyone remember that other creepy PSA the fire department put out a few years ago? It was footage of a house on fire with a voice over saying what would be going through your mind, but it had this erie, ghost like voice saying "close the door" in the background. It was almost like a subliminal message. Again, I understand the importance of keeping doors closed in a fire, but do you have to creep me out at the same time? The city of New York has some sickos making their PSAs for them.
I remember we had one like that in Arkansas a while back. The state used their tobacco settlement money to have the "Stamp out Smoking" campaign, which included a commercial of a smoker puffing a cigarrete through her hole in her neck! and then she said "Don't smoke" and it sounded so nasty and yucky. It got the point across for sure.
