I went to a silent auction for a new Shelby Gt 500 last night.

at my local dealer. 30 people were supposed to be there. 9 showed.
the dealer is getting 2 cars. your bid was the amount over msrp you would pay. I bid $6400. The 1st winner bid like $15000 over the 2nd Winner bid $8300 over, the next guy bid $7900. So if I would have bid $8301 instead of $6400 I would have won! damn. oh well. I test drove a mustang gt convertible when I was there. It was very nice with a great exhaust sound. I may have to settle for one of those. $8300 is not a bad price though, on ebay they are going for like $15k over!

There's no way I'd pay that much in PURE DEALER PROFIT for a car! I can wait!

That still doesn't make sense to pay that much extra to get one! But hey, if you have the money, more power to ya!

Either way you look at it its a good deal. The GT500 is the only car in the world that you can get 500 hp for under $50k. It's a limited production run and on top of it the car has the same drivetrain as the Ford GT. A guy took the blower off of his GT and did a twin tubo setup. He dyno'd at 830 hp untuned. With a tune he put out 1018 rwhp. So basically the same twin turbo setup on the GT500 will give you one fast ass Mustang!

    I agree 100%!

I would never pay thousands over dealer MSRP for a car, it's insane! I like the GT500, but not for over $55,000, I'd rather buy a 'Vette! Prices will eventually go down and you'll be able to pick one up for MSRP or a little over (which I would consider).

Prices will only go down if (for some unexplainable reason) all the GT500's aren't bought before they show up. But this is a limited run, and ALL of these Mustangs are going to be bought up. My dealer got 10, and they are allready spoken for. Especially with SVT's future in the balance. You are not gonna be able to pick up one of these for just over MSRP in a few months. Not gonna happen.

Why buy a Vette? There's only 1 vette worth having now, and its nowhere near 55k.

9000 units is a lot. I would put money on the fact that Ford will build more, when and if they sell, just like every other "special" vehicle in the last 10 years or so. But even so, with 9000 units, there will be a few sitting on the lots unsold to be had under MSRP, especially around the Chicago subarbs.

Having driven a Z06, I couldn't bring myself to even think about owning any other Vette. This new Z06 is a real sports car, and the rest really pale in comparison.

9000 units really isn't that much. They sold more SVT Mustangs per year, the 99?-04? version. And as long as Ford says SVT won't be back, I think people will clamour to get these.

9000 units? the dealership manager said only 7500 units the other night.

i am interested in a z06 also. I see they are finally coming down. It would be farely easy to buy one for a few grand over sticker now, and the used ones are selling for about $68k-70k.

    Spelling police: fairly

The ZO6's down here are selling for MSRP even a little less. I believe this is the 4th biggest Corvette sales state in the US behind California, Florida, and Texas, there are ones that sit on lots for weeks before selling. It'd be easy to negotiate on one...
