Nah, actually both kitchens are pretty much the same! I looked at yours then mine and they look pretty similar. The only real difference is the countertop pattern, the arch, and the island; otherwise they're practically the same! Look at them once.

    Great minds think alike

I don't think it's a risk either for my situation... hell.. 90% of the single females and 60% of the married ones in my county know my house intimately.

Sometimes I worry a little about the not so single ones significant other.

Front of my house, taken today.

Back yard with new swimming pool. It's still looking a bit disheveled because the new sod hasn't greened up yet, but it's getting there.

The above post is my 2 cents....nothing more.

    Damn Rolex, that's gorgeous!

    Simple equation.... 50% Hard work + 25% luck + 25% common sense = A nice home

I think everyone needs to find their niche and stick with it, this is probably the best way to put it.

Location plays a huge role. I just keep reminding myself that I could have a house like that, or close to it, if I moved out of the Bay Area....I like it here too much though. It's bitter-sweet. If we put our house on the market right now it would sell for 580-600K. Isn't that insane?! lol

I'm with Meg on this one. I really have no need for a large and gorgeous home. A similar sized home where I live right now is on the market for $1,200,000 and doesn't have the views of my little townhome. There are some great bargains out there after you leave Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, and Paradise Valley; these places are always overpriced and don't buy you nearly as much home for the money.

I'm lucky since I bought a few years ago, my townhome only ran me a few hundred thousand and now ones like this sell for $650,000-$700,000. I love where I live, but I couldn't afford to buy a home here now. A million bucks doesn't buy what it used to, now you'd be lucky to find a 2600 sq ft home for under $1,000,000 (in this area).

I know (somewhat) of the area you live (Meg). San Francisco is a beautiful and rich city (monetarily and historically). A friend of my parents' lives there in a tiny 800 sq ft condo with views of the harbour.....cost her a cool $800,000!

But this is why I love working in real estate, everyday is a new adventure and you get to see how all the wealthy people live!

Thanks, I appreciate it. I can't speak for everyone, but me and my wife put in a lot of 'front end' effort into our education. It also helps that our career field pays well and is recession proof anywhere in the country.

We built in this development early and it has since BOOMED and become very popular. Our price per square foot has increased about $35 within 2 years. I imagine we'll be staying here for quite awhile. We aren't planning on having any more children so we shouldn't need anything bigger.
The above post is my 2 cents....nothing more.

Thanks Meg. The cost of real estate in Cali is legendary. If I listed my house tomorrow it would go in the 350-400 range. If my house were in SE Arkansas where I grew up, it would list for around 200k. Indeed, location is everything.

Re: What does your house look like?

As the old real estate adage goes, it's location, location, location.

California real estate has been insane for decades, but the disease is spreading. One of the reasons I picked Phoenix when I graduated from college is housing prices there were still reasonable. But that's changing.

Thanks to Zillow, I've learned that the my old house has appreciated considerably in the three years since I moved to Oregon. I bought a 1,280-square foot house in a new Chandler subdivision (Alma School and Ray, Speedy) for $86,000 in 1993. In 2003, I sold it for $138,500. The person I sold it to sold it in December 2004 for $174,500. Zillow estimates the value now at 247,000. And I've seen listings on Realtor.com in my old neighborhood with the same floorplan up to $275,000.

Periodically, I think about looking for a job in Portland where I could make more money. But a house like the one I have now would probably be $300,000+. Much more than I could afford. And unless I have no other alternative, I refuse to rent. I hate to spend all that money and have nothing to show for it. Sure, my mortgage eats up most of my paycheck at the first of the month, but at least I have an asset that's worth something and increasing in value.

I absolutely love Oregon and have no interest in living anywhere else, so I'm glad I got my house when prices were still somewhat reasonable.
