So what does the post-2005 phony "STS" and "DTS" stand for ????

Subaru Touring Sedan ? Datsun Touring Sedan ???

GM/Cadillac is hanging onto marque identity by the skin of its teeth.

Why does this matter so much? CTS has been a great success for Cadillac no matter what CTS stands for! Catera Touring Sedan or Cadillac Touring Sedan. It is just a name!

Re: Proof! 1st Gen CTS Was Known as "Catera" Internally to GM!

I've seen two different times when a CTS was officialy registered as a "Catera". One was a CTSV and the registration called it a "Catera Sport".

Re: Proof! 1st Gen CTS Was Known as "Catera" Internally to GM!

Meh. Sounds better than CTS. At least Catera could be a word and let's face it, shortening it to CTS not only makes you look like an imbecile and at three syllables, it is no easier to say aloud.

By this logic, my Cadillac is a SCCSLPFCCFBCC. Sure, it is shorter than the name is when spelled out, but no easier to say and looks ridiculous.

Alphabet Soup names are stupid like that.

Re: Proof! 1st Gen CTS Was Known as "Catera" Internally to GM!

The Catera (much like the Cimmeron) was a big flop. Cadillac could not use that name, even on a redesigned car. I think the name alone would have killed the CTS. Thus the renaming and denial phase.

I wish they would make a TTS. These would also be a big flop.

Catera wasn't a legacy name that fell into decline. It was a turkey from day one.

    Lettuce forget about that turkey.

Saying I drive an ELR doesn't sound as cool as saying I drive an Eldorado.

personally I liked the german made Catera, it was a rubbish car but I liked the direction they were heading by using an existing car "Opel" and rebadge engineering it to a cadillac, they finally made it right by going to Holden with the CTS.
