Really, what was your impetus to buy Cadillac? C'mon, the truth.

I will be up front and admit that until my early 40s...I viewed Cadillacs with at best, indifference and at worst, my most loathesome derision. They were just too much a "velouriously appointed, chromed and climate controlled circus float" for my liking but...

I have always been a "big car" guy having owned a stable, no..."brothel" if you will over the years of the big gals from the big three but always from the lower/mid scale. The Chev/Olds, Dodge/Plymouth and just plain old Ford were good enough without things like...a/c...the well off have it at home but in the car???

The years passed, and on a fateful day in 97 I was offered...a 1985 SDV, pretty much loaded by a friend who had no need for her recently deceased dad's car. Something snapped and I had to go for it and she, being the person executing the will "left" the car to me from her dad's will/estate and as such there were no transfer taxes...

Yes, bad pic but it is the only one I have of the car.

I paid $2k Cdn. for that car and gained if not a love, a respect for the marque in that it was indeed that "cut above" the more mainstream rides even at the time I aquired it. Even at an age it still held title for smooth and quiet over all but the best of it's industry competitors latest offerings.

What can I say? I got hooked, just like all of you did, perhaps for different reasons but we're all here now. I have stated before that for myself, buying an "adolescent" Cadillac is major bang for the buck in terms of styling, technology, comfort and convenience...most of which is still years ahead of or only recently becoming available in the mainstream.

Q: What is the greatest expense involved in owning a Cadillac?

A: Being the first one to own it.

Easy. Cadillac got the first Alpha and the styling was a home run.

The BS reasons my wife and I make up for all purchases for our own amusement was we had 7 vehicles and not 1 had rear doors to let us easily use a car seat for our granddaughter and the ATS was at the closest car dealer to our home.

Was part owner of a '53 Cadillac hearse back in '57. (Insufficient reason to buy one today). A high school buddy had a gorgeous '49 Series 62 convertible, black/red.

The 2002 STS - it just plain looks good in a gutsy Cadillac sort of way. I did a LOT of pre-buy study so was ready for any nits and zits. Part of car ownership. Dig deep into any car forum on earth - nothing is perfect.

Was looking for a reliable first car, and recalled my dad had good luck with his b body wagons...unable to find one, I "settled" for a Fleetwood brougham.

I had big visions of being a pimp as a retirement past time but after I got the car my wife put the kibosh on that plan.

Because a C7 is not a practical daily driver or grocery getter and some of the Cadillac's are the most aggressive looking cars in GM's lineup besides the Vette.

It all started in the early '70's. I simply wanted a big, smooth, quiet, luxury car. Haven't looked back since.

^ What I wanted was a big, smooth, quiet, ritzy, everything chrome plated, over the top throwback type of car. I ended up with a 1991 Brougham. Bullet-proof drivetrain/mechanicals, still the same feel/look from the 1970's.

We wanted a comfortable, roomy, 4 door that our senior citizen friends (we're 60) could climb in and out of. The powerful Northstar, FWD and great ride were important to us personally.

    I wanted a Superior. A specific Superior.

After tracking it and finding it, I purchased it. Fate just happened that it was built on a Cadillac platform.

Not that I mind that in any way, of course. My Mum always owned a number of Cadillacs and I was quite fond of them. I could gladly drive a Fleetwood Brougham sedan or coupe.

I grew up around Cadillacs. My parents and many of my aunts and uncles owned them. I was always mesmerized by all the gadgets and options, and thought they were all just beautiful cars. My first car was the family Cadillac that I learned to drive on. Owned a succession of them afterwards. The Chevy Spark I just bought as a DD is the first non-Cadillac I've ever owned!

Back then, the 92-97 STS was the sharpest and sleekest sedan ever built.
