Re: Cadillac Sales Down by 2.3%...with the ATS and XTS down by over 20%...NOT GOOD!

Cadillac is having a hard time realigning themselves simply because for decades, Cadillac's have been laughable cars to the mass public. They were seen as un-hip, dated, dinosaurs for people that lived in Jersey who smoked cigars. The first real Cadillac to get public attention was the Escalade and though some of you condemn that vehicle, it truly is the modern Fleetwood Brougham. Large, obnoxious, and undoubtedly Cadillac it led them to produce excellent cars like the ATS and CTS. There have been a few missteps along the way but now Cadillac is getting back to building world class vehicles.

Sales are down because Cadillac has some of the worst marketing in the luxury industry. GM can't successfully market any of their brands besides GMC, and they don't even try to! The ATS is a small car inside, even more so than the F30 3 Series, but it's still a damn fine car. The new CTS? That car can easily compete with the German brands. I loved the Seville's and Eldo's of the 90's too, but its time to stop looking at the world with such a dated view. The new Cadillac's are still Cadillac's, just not the floaty land yachts we're used to seeing. In case you all haven't noticed, they don't build cars like that anymore. If people were so willing to buy them, they would still be sold.

Oh and large, RWD Cadillac has been a go for years. Test mules have been spotted all over Detroit for months now. The unveil should be later this year or early next year. Expect starting prices of at least $75k.

Sales are down because people do not like what is being offered. Simple as that.

It's not that simple. The cars are getting rave reviews, but Cadillac has priced their cars right against the Germans without the brand cache they offer. Not to mention the dealership experience as a whole isn't nearly as good as the Germans either. Cadillac has to realize they can't price the cars with the Germans just yet, though I find the CTS to be the least offending of all the pricing structures. It's a great car.

You'll also notice that the U.S. GDP is down 2.9% so far this quarter. Our economy is imploding from gross mismanagement and a dysfunctional government. Declining car sales are only the tip of the iceberg - all hell is about to break loose in the U.S. Bank on it.

Perhaps all the magazine reviewers already have one?

Tis the problem with building to the tastes of the auto writers, there aren't enough of them to keep a company in business. You also need to sell some to us undignified, uneducated, idiots who just want a comfortable car to drive.

So the newest Cadillac's aren't comfortable? That's news to me. Like I said earlier, if people loved the old FWD Deville and Seville's so much they would still be around. They were uncompetitive cars. Period.

    This is not true.

" the ATS is a net for conquest buyers, with nearly 70 percent of sales coming from former customers of rivals such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and even Lexus."

Simple fact: Over the last 4 years I have, during parts runs to Fitzgerald Cadillac, driven several (7) different "Cadillac" models. There is not one worth even half the asking price. Not one..... and they're getting uglier.

It says it is a fact, therefore it must be a fact!

I might agree with you on some models, however, in the past, 80s and early 90s for example, we had some very ugly Cadillacs and today there are very good looking new Cadillacs. Personal opinions and feelings are valuable, but unfortunately labeling them as fact doesn't give them any extra legitimacy.

Read it again - MY test drives, MY opinions, and I did, in fact drive the several models to form the opinion. The cars are all plastic fantasticks.

"Cadillac" is not alone in the automotive design world in hyping some really fugly (and unreliable) trash - and, just as every other car brand, has done so for the better part of my driving time.

Daresay that my Dad had his opinions on the 1930s and 1940s cars and models, too ...................
