Random Thoughts (car related or otherwise)

Every time somebody shortens "transmission" to "Tranny" it makes me giggle. Also I really dislike shortening Cadillac to "Caddy". I Don't know why.

It's been so cold that I can't go out and try to fix my thermostat. Consequently, I'm always cold in the car.

    Carry on.

"Caddy" doesn't really bother me all that much, but I do try to refrain from the "tranny" term because I know I am setting my self up.

I don't really have a problem with 'tranny' or 'caddy'; as far as the thermostat goes, you could always put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator (for some extra heat).

    Sounds like a fire hazard.

It's an old trick. Not much fire risk in front of the radiator.

I hope you have some kind of temp gauge if you are planning to regulate engine temperature manually...

When I hear drop a Tranny I laugh and think "Really you couldn't tell it was a dude before?"

When very young I couldn't say "Truck" correctly and we owned a 68 Chevy StepSide... lets just say the TR turned into an F. More than once the parents were embarrassed in church, our Pastor found it hilarious.

I guess the use of "Caddy" for Cadillac, or "Roller" for Rolls-Royce, or "Frisco" for San Francisco by some people is taboo to some people. Personally I think it is a case of people taking a car brand or a city far too seriously! I certainly don't think it is politically correct or anything (except in the case of San Francisco and you are from that city!).

My Grandpa hated when I called a pickup a truck. Pickup truck was fine, but calling an F150 a "truck" was not acceptable. I ran into this a lot in South Dakota as well. A "truck" to them is a medium duty or larger, think Grain truck to Semi. A pickup is anything smaller all the way up to F-550 size.

I always wanted to tell him that that may have been true when you could kill a man for stealing a horse, but things have changed.

There's a bumper sticker over here on the Eastern Shore - Real trucks don't have spark plugs !

On one of the F-150s I have one that says "There is no life west of the Chesapeake Bay"

I have no problem with Caddy. I like my car so much I call it "Das Auto".
Gets a laugh out of many people.
