EVERYONE is treated equally under the law. Period.[COLOR="Silver"]
You're saying issuing a $3000 fine to someone with an annual income of $35,000 and issuing that same fine to someone with a $350,000 income is treating everyone equally??

I say you just fined the first guy 8.5% of his income and the second guy less than 1%. To me that doesn't look equal.

Issuing fines is theoretically to "teach someone a lesson" to dissuade them from breaking the law again. The first guy got a much harder lesson than the second.

Treating everyone equally can be looked at this way too.

You may consider moving to Switzerland or Finland as there they use formula based on speed and drivers income.

Re: Who is happy the Justin Bieber got arrested??

If someone made 35,000 a year they wouldn't be driving a V. They would be driving an older civic.

If someone earns a fine of $3500 it would hurt them. thats almost working for one month for free.

Someone with a bigger bank account would laugh at a $3500 fine and act above the world. Money is great and it gets you out of trouble when need be. Look at Justins representation, the best lawyer possible will get him off with a plea deal. It should be based on your criminal/ driving record, and your annual salary.

I talk on the phone and drive. I know its bad..... point being if I was pulled over for it, a $250 fine wouldnt brake my bank account. If I knew the fine was say $1200. that's a different story.

For grown men this is awefully childish... If he wernt rich, hed get off with a fine and community service. Anything outside of that is dumb. He's a child, with a shit ton of money. The level of his stupidity is higher because he can afford to make a bigger spectacle of himself. Had it been joe blow in his 98 accord, we'd know nothing about it.

i think we all agree with you yes hes a child. but if he isnt stopped now what do you expect to happen in 10 years? he will either be 30 and still the same or will be broke like so many other child stars.

I really don't care what happens to him, deport him to Canada for all I care. It is sad to see him follow Lindsey, Brittney and the countless others.

I would throw him in jail for 30 days, no fine. Scare him straight and see how he comes out.

No I'm saying the United States is a Representative Republic with a constitution. By law we don't penalize people more severely under the law because they are young, dumb, and have a hit record.

It isn't "penalties from each according to his income, to those in government in need". Jesus read Animal Farm again, and maybe a few cliffs notes of some of Karl Marx works.

I mean yes I am saying fining someone the same thing regardless of skin color, race, intelligence, gender, sexual preference is fair.

What should gays pay more for a speeding ticket?

He owns a V-coupe. Or at least did. I saw the tail end of a Pimp My Ride episode where they customized his V-Coupe with suicide doors.

I'm not arguing that they're fining him wrong because of his income. I know what the law states. I'm saying it SHOULDN'T be like that because it's disproportionate to his income.

Nobody said anything about fining gays more, or fining depending on race. That would clearly be wrong. Fining someone more because they're gay is NOT the equivalent of fining them more because they earn more. And I'm hesitant to call it fining someone "more" when they earn more because the way I see it you're fining them less. The percentage of their income is smaller.

I'm sad. A lot of people are down on the celebs, until they realize all the good that they do for people. Yes, they were lucky to be in these positions. Imagine a world w/o ANY music!

Good Lord. This is not about money, this is about a board nation with a 24/7 news cycle. Did we give a crap what the Rat Pack did? The general public did not have a clue. Let's the court jesters self destruct. It's all the more entertaining and that is what they are paid to do. Entertain us.

I'd like to approach this discussion from another angle. As a dad with two son's who are just a couple of years older than Justin Beiber it really saddens me to see this young kid (I say kid not to disrespect but because who really thinks they were a man at 19?) with all this drama.
Yeah everyone can say he's rich and famous, what else could anybody want?
How about parental guidance? A positive role model/mentor? Anybody to say "no, this isn't the way to live. Let me show you how"
Too many folks think that misbehaving is entertainment and that's pathetic. They like too watch others follies on Entertainment Tonight and other trashy Hollywood shows so they can feel superior to those clowns on TV.
As a Dad, I hope Justin Beiber is given a fair and appropriate punishment for what he did. I also hope he can get some positive mentoring and use his wealth/fame like many others to do good things.

I'm all for deporting him back to Canada.
His liberal mom can go back too.
I'm sorry Canada, but it best for everyone on both sides of the border.

I am really amazed that people on this forum are wasting their time and emotion on this subject. Does anyone really care? Let the justice system deal with and be done.
