............. or "Balls to the wall". Google it.

I have several different sizes of ballcocks in a shop drawer right now, and one on each of the 3 toilets in the house.

Don't have to. My Mum was partial to such phrases and I know it well. Of course, in another sense of the word, she had more "balls" than nearly any other person I am aware of having ever existed.

    As for silk boxers...lolpants.

Do I have moth balls? "Why yes, but if I wear loose pants people usually don't notice."

Where are your thermometers? "Oral or rectal?"
...that is responded to with a lot of stunned stuttering!

Re: Has anyone had any experience with "ball lightning?"

The thread title and intent was a question on experience with an infrequent natural lightning phenomenon. Beginning at about Post #3 the whole thread went into the outhouse with most of the replies being strictly tongue-in-cheek.

the_dullahan, Your Post #3 - I still have a half dozen "Nixie" vacuum tubes - multi-pin affairs, cube-ish in shape, with the numbers 0 - 9 as individual grids. The tubes are neon-filled: energize a pin and a number glows orange. They were used in the early computers for numerical readouts. Back in the days when you programmed a computer one bit at a time using banks of on/off switches to set binary numeric codes - one bit. One (there were three) NAVDAC (NAVigation Data Assimilation Computer) on a 1960's missile submarine was larger than a refrigerator and had less "power" than any $14.98 desk calculator of today.

Yes. The 2nd post was yours. And this apparent attempt to get things back on topic would do just the opposite, under the circumstances.

Okay, come on. I was entirely within the subject on Post Number Three.

Wikipedia confirms this, because the Ball Lightning article branches off to mention Ignis Fatuus and whatnot. I know...I checked a minute ago.

Took me a moment to figure why you were telling me that about the computers though. Then I realized. Nixies.

    Yeah, different kind of Nixie.

A friend of mine in Georgia however has a wristwatch that uses Nixie tubes to display the time. I always thought that it was pretty cool...but I really dislike wristwatches personally (as in, for myself). Can't wear one.

Then again, I really don't like computers either. They make it convenient to keep in touch with extended family around the world and I am hardly abolishing their use...but I lack interest in them to ever learn how to use one anywhere beyond the "amateur" ability you would expect to see while teaching your grandmum to use one. Smartphones too. Devious and amazing little devices...but far overpowered for my needs (making phone calls)

BUT...Personally, I find the discussion of Ball Lightning far more interesting than...well, what had been being discussed...
