1st time Cadillac Owner! Just bought a 2005 DeVille!

Never thought I'd ever own one. My wife crashed our 99 Regal and we suddenly were thrown into car shopping. Talk about frustration! We were looking at anything falling in the $8500 to $10,000 range. Looked at anything and everything from Camry's to G 6's, to LaCrosses....all fairly nice cars with reasonable mileages. My wife's brother suggested looking at used Cadillacs and he sent her links to some for sale. Initially, I scoffed at the notion. I wasn't raised in luxury cars. Matter of fact, the only Caddy I'd ever ridden in was the funeral home limo for my FIL's passing. Anyway, we found this absolute gem of a car with a pristine interior and over all immaculate exterior. Only one owner, the man was 76 yrs old when he bought it and 85 when he sold it to the dealer. Garage kept with only 51,000 miles. $7500! The real cost to us after the insurance total from the wrecked Buick was $4100! We are ecstatic at this unbelievable deal. The dealer put 4 new rotors on it at no cost because we felt the brakes pulsing during our test drive. It's the base DeVille with options such as heated and cooled seats as well as 2 position driver seat memory. Heated steering wheel, 6 CD changer. We just love this car!

Appreciate the welcome, knotgoalie! I've been reading through the forum trying to learn as much I can about my model year. Sounds like GM finally worked out the bugs by the 04 yr. The DeVille is really my wife's ride. And I'm jealous even though I'm in a (purch. new)2011 Ram 1500 Big Horn Crew Cab.

You've been bitten. The bad news is Betty Ford does not treat our addiction.

That's some funny stuff right there! You know, my wife and I both have mentioned we look at other vehicles differently now. I'd have never thought I'd feel "snobbish" about peoples' rides, but now I can't help the feeling that other folks are settling for something less. That seems bizarre because I am the anti-snob as far as my worldview.

Apparently not as anti snob as you thought you were. But realize you paid less than you would have for a riff raff's Honda!

    Nice vehicle.
They had most of the bugs out of the NorthStar then.
You should search the forum for exercising the motor to keep the rings free.
Hope you have many happy miles out of it.

Thats the kicker through all this. We got way more car and a luxury ride to boot for less than what we were looking at initially. We found a cream puff 04 Camry Solara with 57k for $8900. Beautiful car. That's the one we were going to get until my BIL stepped in with the Caddy suggestion. And the DeVille even had a few $ cheaper insurance rate for us due to the Camry Solara being a "personal sports coupe".

This forum knows better than most - you pay, one way or another - maybe not through initial purchase price, but you will pay.

We're noticing a moderate shimmy to the car that starts at 68-70 mph. Nothing up to that point. I'm thinking we have a tire that needs re-balanced.

99% of the time that's what it is. Find a shop that can do a road force balance. These front-drive Cadillacs are picky about that.

2005 Deville and DHS got the updated Northstar engine so you should be safe(r) from head gasket issues. Enjoy!
