Thumbs down I sure miss that wreath!

Looking at the two models released yesterday at the Detroit Auto Show, ATS Coupe most noticeably, seeing the Cadillac "coat of arms" without the wreath around it looked awful. Apparently this is the new corporate logo from now on, but it doesn't fly with me!

Re: I sure miss that wreath!

I knew someone many years ago who drove a Chevette (sp?). It didn't have a wreath. So basically Cadilacs have been downgraded to Chevette status.

But seriously, I also prefer the outgoing badge. The new one isn't bad. If I knew nothing about Cadillacs it might be close to a tie on which I liked better. But the tie breaker is definitely what the wreath and crest represents to me.

I think Cadillac knows that heritage is important and a sign of significance. I suspect its just a little ashamed of some of that heritage and what it represented to its victims and so threw the baby (crest) out with the bathwater to hasten the fading of those memories.

I guess I don't mind the absence of the wreath. This isn't the first Cadillac to have no wreath. My '79 has a crest only also.

I'm not sure when the wreath first started, but it was originally only on the high-end models (Fleetwood, Eldorado). In the mid-80's they started using it on all models, so as far as heritage goes, the crest alone still works.

That lower, wider crest would make an interesting hood ornament if they still used them.

Looks like the wreath was there as far back as 1902, but then disappeared for 80 years.

That "V" beneath the crest on the '48 and '59 logos would fit right in with the new logo, maybe for future V models.

That huge Cadillac mistake is the exact duplicate of what taking the ring from the Mercedes star would do. Very, very dumb bean counter play.

I guess this means that Cadillac is going to persist with the fugly Darth Vader angular chisel styling also.

Make sure to add the counts for the 2nd and 3rd choices to get a count of how many like the new emblem better. I included choice 3 because some people have said they didn't like the new emblem just because it was too large in some pictures of cars with it. I didn't want them thinking they had to vote for the outgoing emblem just because they didn't like the size of the new emblem on some cars.

I like the new one better than the outgoing one, but only because I've always thought of the outgoing one as a cheap looking version/knockoff of the pre '00 emblem (which is the one I really like). The new one does tie in nicely with the current styling, so I do like how it looks on the car.

If they simply MUST have a squashed, crestless emblem, I vote for going back to this:

Re: Outgoing vs new Cadillac emblem/badge

There are aspects of the new emblem and the old emblem that I like. '

What about the new emblem nested into a wreath similar to the old emblem? They need something to represent the original wreath but I do like the edgyness of the new emblem. Maybe a little bit of a crown on the top of the emblem as well.

I did not vote but I would vote for a merge between the 2 emblems.

Re: Outgoing vs new Cadillac emblem/badge

Good idea, Rob - but the new vehicle designs (except for the rebadged GMC truck offerings with their large, flat panels) don't seem to lend themselves to a traditional V accent under the redesign shield (coat of arms).

I even went so far as to revert to the older "ducks" coat of arms on the STS. (Google "biggdaddycaddy ebay store".)

EDIT: MC's rendition, and this one, say "Cadillac". The new idea says "ricer".
