One Hell Of A Way To Start The New Year

MY wife is having surgery Monday afternoon 12/30/13. She just had arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus. A few days later my daughter took her for physical therapy. By the time she got there she was doubled over in pain. Took her to the emergency room where they suspected an appendicitis. Turned out not to be the problem. In hind sight we think it was just an acute case of constipation brought on by pain meds, but they did a CT scan and it also revealed the lower part of her lungs where they saw a dark mass in the left lung. Focus shifted from the abdomen to the lungs. Long story short, it has to come out. Doc said depending on how well it is attached, he may have to remove the lower lobe. That would reduce her breathing capacity by 20%. If there is any good news it is that it put the fear of God in her and scared her off the cigarettes (2 weeks now) and more importantly, the biopsy came back negative.

Re: My Wife Is Having Surgery

Wow! Who needs that? I wish the very best outcome for the both of you. You're in my prayers. FWIW, my cousin was an enlisted Navy dive bomber pilot in WWII and he only had one lung. He lost the other to pneumonia as a kid.

That really sucks Ranger. I wish you and your wife the best.

I recommend someone stay with her the entire time she is in the hospital. You can get some scary Nurses called traveling Nurses. They come from all over and fill needs for additional nursing staff. They did this here (local Kaiser) and almost killed the person. If it would'nt have been for the full time nurse that followed her that person may not be here today.

Last year at this time my wife was recovering from having a kidney removed. Cancer found by accident.
I am praying for your wife to have a speedy recovery, I hope she recovers as fast as my wife did.

Re: One Hell Of A Way To Start The New Year

Of course the bad new is they found the mass, the good news is they found the mass and that it was not malignant and she will be able to have treatment that will, hopefully, leave her with little impairment to her breathing and hopefully a long life ahead of her.

Ranger, you and your wife will be in my thoughts and prayers ..... and I will be looking forward to hearing of her prospects for a full recovery in the near future.

Just logged on. Tough news, Ranger. Lots of tests and a long surgery, but with today's medical techniques it should work out OK. The best part of the bad news is that the mass tests came back negative ! Karen and I send prayers.
