    Air bags

Saw commercial for side impact last night. The car was hit in pass side and they had a camera view of pass compartment. I think it was "real", not a computer animation? Anyway, they showed a air bag deploying from the pass side of driver seat? I know new cars have air bags for side impact. I assumed most were in the headliner area. I think some cars even have airbags in side headrest area. But an airbag on the pass side of driver seat? Huh? Is that so when passenger is propelled sideways in pass side hit, that passenger won't hurt the driver?

Why not? I wouldn't have wanted to be hit by some of the clients I used to haul around!

That is the idea. To stop head to head contact in side impacts.

Wow! Never heard of that before. It's crazy how many safety features they have for automobiles these days.

What's even more crazy is the repair bill if you decide to fix said automobiles.

They have to do something with cars getting so small, remember when you could barely touch the passenger and if they slide to the door you had to lean? Think 70's Caprice...

And the back seats had end tables and you could sleep (?) back there. It is interesting that along with better birth control we got smaller cars. Must be some correlation. However the sounds systems got bigger and better.

Pretty soon the entire pass compartment will fill with expanding foam.

I found it funny that a toyota avalon commercial bragged of 31 highway mpg. Pretty sure alot of vehicles could get that mileage (real world) 10-20 years ago (with alot less technology crap).....GMs intermediate/ "large" fwd offerings with the 3300/ 3800 come to mind.
