    This is science?

My faux queen niece was on a Science Channel show called "Oddities San Fransisco" last weekend. I just got around to watching it. I don't watch reality shows but have to make exceptions for relatives. I hope it was staged because it seems she grossly overpaid and didn't even haggle! Not to mention what she bought didn't make a lot of sense based on what she said she was looking for. And why is this on the Science Channel? Or is it like the History channel where "The truth is History" [/South Park]?

    Re: This is science?

Everything in San Francisco is an oddity.

Not sure if this is the same thing, but a while back, someone showed me this:

Personally, I cannot have much respect for someone who needs to be explained what a cooling table or an aneurysm hook is for. But then again, these are clearly city kids.

What's so different? They do shows on the fauna and flora of places all over the world. They have also done many shows on subcultures around the globe! Who knows they may do one on the Mummers of Philadelphia, or the Yuppies of Bucks County!

Who knows, they may even do a program on the "Car-go Cult of the Cadillac Forums!"

So I will admit to watching that show. Mainly for the quack medical devices from the 19th/early 20th century. That was just a weird/horrific/interesting era of medicine, right before the FDA and other government entities were around. Ignorance among the general public so rampant any good hustler could make a buck selling miracle eliquxors or crazy devices claimed to cure all symptoms such as despression, nymphomania, and the common cold.

Yes, there was quite a bit of that going around at the end of the Victorian Age!

    Re: This is science?

    ^Hah, Dave.

Actually, anyone who seeks a cure or treatment for medical problems or ailments is, in my book at least, a barbarian.

Civilized people let nature take it's course. Survival of The Fittest. Or as my Mum taught me.

    "Get up."

"I think my leg is broken."

    "Then walk it off."

This is the same school of logic I pass on to all of my lackeys to this day.

I've never been there either. Been right up to the state line, but didn't cross it. While there, I apparently "paced back and forth, snarling and growling at it for a good ten minutes."
