Panthers lost. Nothing unusual to talk about there.

Isn't that the American name for Rugby or something?

And they have that big sportsball game every year/season/decade/whenever and all those idiots go watch it?

    Re: Football?

I agree. American Football is laughable though. Why the hell are they wearing armour? We don't even wear that much when we joust. And if they sprain a pinkie toe, they are out for a season. What the ************** ***** ******* *** of a *********** is that?

Jesus Christ. If I ever injured a part of my physical being so much that it was enough for me to complain about, I'd chop it off.

    Speaking of Pinkie Toes though,

Actually I never thought about it, I guess football is rarely, if ever, discussed here. Maybe that's why I like it here! Neither is baseball ..... the Forums is a true refuge from the inanity of American life!

I live in Minnesota and this is how every season opener goes, "The Vikings take the field, and the season is over."

    Re: Football?

So based on this thread, I am not the only person who doesn't get this football thing! Don't get me wrong, I have tried to understand the buzz about it, but the more I try, the less I get it! Sometimes my friends invite me to their house to watch football. And I say yes and go there just to discover what it is all about! So this is what happens: there is a big TV there, showing football. And the game is nothing more than advertisement, and sometimes a 10-20 second action in between. And this is what my friends, who claim to be hardcore football fans, do during the game:
    drink beer
    prepare meat for the grill
    prepare the fire
    grill the meat
walk around and chat with the people
    play with the smartphone
take a nap on the coach
    talk with the others
And sometimes check the scores, and say something about the statistics, history, etc....
Overall, it has been always a boring event! But I like that eating part though!

When I was at University of Florida and Arizona State University, a few times I went to the stadiums to watch gators and Sun Devils. But again, I didn't enjoy it!

Oh, and by the way, the gators part of my username is after UF's nickname!

    Re: Football?

Wow! I am not alone! I too do not understand the appeal of football. In college a guy once asked me a Football question, I replied I had no idea what he was talking about as I don't watch football ever. His response was that I was not a man. My response was, I bet you don't even know how to change the oil on your car. His look, Priceless!

...I don't get sports at all.

I mean I understand that people enjoy playing them, but watching other people play?

I am in the non fan group too. I used to follow just enough to be able to converse with customers, as is expected of a guy. Now, I don't even try.
Only F1 and Indycar for me.

I both change my own oil and watch football. I had season tickets to see the Miami Dolphins for 11 years...while living in MA.

    Come at me.
