I was always a vehicle guy. My mom salways aid if it had wheels or an engine of sorts and made noise, I was THERE.

I had a slug of hotwheels when I was little, as well as semis. I could recreate SoCal traffic pretty good, I'd imagine

After that I was big on space stuff (read space shuttle).

Got back into cars with NASCAR. Still collect nascar stuff left and right. Also collect hot wheels of my favorite makes and models.

I have a few planes, but they aren't quite as easy or cool to display.

My printing presses and their equipment. Turned into a small lucrative business through high school. Had a Chandler & Price 8 X 12 letterpress and an OLD hand-operated 6 X 8 letterpress. Worked part time sweeping floors in print shops for used fonts of type and leftover ink.

An A.C. Gilbert chemistry set. (1940's - 1950's) You could make small samples of any sort of chemical monster from delayed ignition fuses to gunpowder as well as silver cleaner paste. Replacement chemicals were cheap and available at The Gilbert Hall of Science in DC (Lionel and American Flyer trains, too). The ultimate Christmas present was a larger chemistry set.

Mostly hot wheels and matchbox. Have a few originals left over from back then.
Used to have a big collection of slot cars too. Used to modify and drag race them.
I have a lot of johnny lightning cars and 1:24 die cast sitting on the shelf now and a couple of brushless motor r/c cars that I bash around with. Sometimes drag race them when the local hobby shop sets up a track.

Hot Wheels. I'm a 40 year old kid and I have several thousand of them.

Re: Toys: What were your favorites?

For me it started out on Matchbox. I remember my first one was the 60's Cadillac and a trailer. I vividly remember opening it up and playing with it in the back seat of my dad's 56 Buick Special. That means 4 or 5 years old. We were on a trip at the time so I spent a lot of time admiring and playing with it. I still have it and all of my old toy cars.

I remember at 8 the Hot Wheels came out followed shortly by Johnny Lightning. Back then you could own them all and I did. Only like 8 or 10 models the first year. Now days you would go broke trying to own them all as a kid!

Do Video Games count? I got an Atari at 4, then an NES at 6. But for me as a kid the holy grail was a moped or dirtbike. I never did get one as a kid, but I did steal my dads car battery, and took an old blower motor, and a creeper wheel, and made a friction drive type of electric bicycle. Of Course no throttle, and horribly balanced. It worked until my brother crashed it on its maiden voyage, looking back I am sure the motor would have burned up after a short time anyhow and Dad was not pleased about the loss of his battery either.

Yes, "not getting" caused a lot of bursts of creative energy!

Kept me busy and out of my folks hair so I guess they got their money's worth out of it!
I wanted the '84 version so bad as it had the two Super Bowl teams from that year. The Dolphins and 49ers, with the Dolphins being my favorite team.

So my parents got it for me for Christmas(the last I celebrated). My father immediately regretted it since it would make the living room TV snowy when it was buzzing. And it also reverberated through the house, waking him up from his sleep.

    I laughed...
