    IIHS small frontal overlap--a tough nut to crack

    2013 Rav 4 rating: poor.

    Notes;
    Among other issues, the IIHS noted that the steering column moved seven inches to the right causing the crash test dummy to practically miss the airbag, the dummy's left foot was trapped in deformed sheetmetal and the dummy's head hit the instrument panel.

    IE; get in this situation with a Rav 4? You're probably getting a trip to the ambulance as well.

    There are really only a few cars doing well in this test, I find it refreshing in a sea of 4/5 star frontal and side impact cars to find out which one's are actually safe in all situations(ie the NHSTA is throwing a cruve ball here that'll take years to refine) rather than being strengthened precisely for the standard fare impact tests.

    To be fair out of 29 vehicles evaluated so far for it only 13 passed and none of them a GM.
    The Buick Encore, Chevy Malibu failed that test also.

    The Rav just happened to be it's latest victim, nothing against the Toyota
