Re: Excuse me miss (What have YOU been pulled over for lately?)

About 3 yrs ago I was traveling south from E. MT to E. WY., I had checked my old atlas I carry for a shortcut. I found a fairly straight 2 lane road that had very little traffic and wasn't really paying attention to my speed, the 96 SLS I was driving just feels good and handles well, so you never really notice your speed. Well, all of a sudden the bubble machine is on me and flashing, so I find a wide spot in the road and pull over. The officer walks up and asks me if I know why I was getting pulled over, I kinda look at him and asked if I was going to fast, he kind of chuckled and said, yeah, you were doing 84 in a 70. I pulled my old atlas out and showed where it said on page 2 that MT didn't have a speed limit. He looked at the atlas a little closer and said that law changed right after I got my atlas, pointing out the 1994 publishing date. In the end he gives me a ticket, which unbeleivable to me is only $40. So I take off and after a mile or so I feel safe doing 73-74. NOT, here he comes again! lights me up and I'm thinking this is a bunch of crap. He walks up to the car and says, " you might need these" as he hands me back my registration, insurance and DL! Apparently as he was writing the ticket he was on his radio to another cop explaining my lame excuse and forgot to give them to me. And I was so happy to only get a $40 ticket, I just wanted to go!

Great story! Are there any states now with no speed limit?

Montana used to be the Montanabahn, but I believe that ended in 1999.

Utah has speed limits of 80.

There are speed limits in Wyoming, but the land is so open, so sparsely populated.....

    Technically, no.

But speed limits don't apply to me in any state except Arizona, where I live. I simply appointed myself an ambassador from my household to all other states and printed up diplomatic IDs. They can stop me but can't fine or arrest me. Or at least that's my theory. I haven't had an opportunity to test it in court yet.

I hope those "diplomatic" I.D.'s included an authentic Diplomatic Passport or you will be spending some time in the local hoosegow.

Come to think of it, do Indian Nations issue diplomatic passports? I doubt it.

They have Nation ID cards. It doesn't really do them much good though

They don't include passports but I've thought of that.

First, with the exception of NY and DC, the cop has probably never stopped a diplomat or was trained for it and would never think to ask for a passport. Second, if one does I simply tell the D. A. I will try this in the court of public opinion and see what they think of your notion that Americans need passports to travel between states. Third, if all else fails there's always: "look, your shoe lace is untied".

I just had an AWESOME one today happen. No, I wasn't pulled over, but I was merging onto the interstate in my Peterbilt semi, and two cars moved over into the left lane to allow me to merge. One was a Chevy Aveo, and behind him, an Ohio state trooper. Well the Aveo came back over into my lane SO close to me AND with out a signal, that I couldn't even see his trunk lid over my hood.

I laid on my air horn and they just turned around and flipped me off!! Well the trooper pulls up beside my drivers door, takes his hand and motions for me to back off a bit. When I did, he cut in front if me and lit that Aveos ass up! I couldn't stop laughing for the next 20 miles! I can't TELL you the number of times that's happened to me and all I can do is think to myself "if only a cop saw that". Well this time he did! Lol. Made my week right there.
