M
y Marauder was $35,305 in 2003. In today's money, that is $43,849.

According to Edmunds, the 2013 Charger SRT8 Superbee's MSRP starts at $42,450. From what I understand, the Chevrolet SS (2014) is supposed to be in the 42-44k range as well.

If you want to go back in time, I special ordered a 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS 327/350 from Chevy Chase Chevrolet in 02/65. 4-speed, posi, transistor ignition, HD cooling, HD battery, P/S delete, P/B delete, 7.75/14 wheels/tires, tinted glass, base radio, A/C delete. Emerald Green Metallic with Camel interior. Car came in in 04/65. Final sticker price ??? $2288. (I have the original invoice) Out the door with tax, title, tags it was just under $2500. I drove that car about 91,000 miles, including 3 years in Italy (USN staff duty) and totalled it (totalled in spades) in '71. ($16919 in 2013)

You could buy a brand new 1965 Pontiac GTO 389 TriPower 4-speed posi for about $2,900 - out the door.

My 1964 Lamborghini 350 GT was $18,000. on the showroom floor in Beverly Hills in 1965. If you bought one at the factory, without duty or Italian taxes,FOB Sant'Agata Bolognese you could get one for just under $12,000. (a new Jaguar E-type was $4200 delivered to NYC on the GI purchase plan in 1968). I bought my car directly from Automobili Ferrucio Lamborghini in Sant'Agata, it had been the 1964 Geneva show car that started Lamborghini's commercial sales. When it was offered to me, it had 32,000 Kilometers on it and it was painted gold metallic and had a black leather interior. I told the factory that I could not use a "gold" car, and they said they would go through the car make sure that it was mechanically as new and that they would paint it any color I wanted if I were to buy the car. I specifically wanted a 350 GT instead of the newer 400 GT because emission laws had just changed and I wanted to be sure I could import the and register it in California with no problems. The other problem was that the car would have to be shipped down around the Cape of Africa to a port on the Red Sea for delivery to me ( I was to be the second Lamborghini owner in Ethiopia and the third in all of Africa!). In order to do this and have it insured during shipping the car had to be completely encased in a custom built wooden shipping crate. Lamborghini agreed to refurbishing=h the car and paint it "Amaranto" (dark red) have it crated and sipped to me for $6500. So I agreed to buy it.

This was in 1968, a year of tumult around the world, between the Pueblo being captured and the TET Offensive many peoples plans changed as the year progressed. In my Case my good life and stay in Africa was shortened and I was to end the year in Vietnam, along with a lot my fellow spooks, after a few months training in Washington. So my Lambo never made the trip to Africa and was delivered to the Port of Los Angeles (the only Lambo ever delivered to the US fully wood crated!). I was sitting in a bunker at Camp Evans near the DMZ when my mother, with the help of Jack Robbins (Lamborghini's West Coast Tech Rep) took deliver and promptly put the car in storage until I return. I finally drove it for the first time five long months later. I owned and enjoyed it for ten years before selling it to a collector for $9500.

The reason I tell you all this long story is that a Lamborghini 350 GT similar to mine sold in April of 2013 for $550,000!

You know what I used that for? I have always wondered how much that teacher on the Breakfast club really made. He was bragging about 33K a year and I was making that in college (when I first saw it) so it always seemed off to me. Now I know he would be making about 71K in todays dollars! LOL Now it doesn't seem so lame!

Yes, I am still very much in love with a fantastic woman who loves me. Hoover's doing great, and I have a new kitten who's adorable when he's not running amuck. Last autocross was about a month ago; I don't think I have another until sometime in August. Have been very busy with freelance work and teaching summer classes when I'm not spending as much time as I can with Nancy.

Life is good. My best to you and Karen.

1996 Cadillac Sedan DeVille in 1996 dollars, new: $36,544 (and the friggin WY DMV uses THIS for licensing :nono:)
1996 Cadillac Sedan DeVille in 2012 dollars, new: $52,798.18

1996 Cadillac Sedan DeVille in 2012 dollars, GOOD KBB private party: $2,840
1996 Cadillac Sedan DeVille in 1996 dollars, GOOD KBB Private party: $1,948.52

For funs, my Dad was able to go to skools for $750 a semester during the late 1980s (we will use 1987 as a base referral year). That is $1500 a year. We will use 16 credit hours for reference. Rates are based on In-state students.

University of Wyoming tuition (16 credit hours) in 1987 dollars: $1,500
University of Wyoming tuition (16 credit hours) in 2012 dollars: $2,983.99
Univeristy of Wyoming tuition (16 credit hours) in 2013 dollars: $3456

Dad was able to pay for EVERYTHING (food, books, house) with that $1,500. The $3,456 for me gets class ONLY.

Guess I should shut up and be happy I can get two jobs over the summer, and the RA thing during the school year. I'm one lucky dude :D

Just looked up my '84 CDV and my '93 SDV. Looks like Al (the '84) costs about $18,798 when new, and in 2012 dollars that is about $40,898!!! Holy Crap!

Chives ('93) was around $35,960 when new, and in 2012 dollars it is $56,277!! Wow!

I can't believe how huge a gap that is for both cars. :cookoo:

(Since my Challenger is newer, she only had about a $1,750 difference between 2009 and 2012.)

Actually it has nothing to do with that, but I've never made the connection until now. So well done, Dave!

You know how people riding in your car (especially Cadillacs, for some reason) like to say "Home James"? Well my brother climbed in one day and says "Home Chives". I asked "Chives?" and he says "Yep, Chives." I liked the name, especially since it is a greenish color, and it stuck. It's like a fancy butler!
