    Gandolfini dead at 51

I was not a frequent viewer of the New Jersey crime soap opera "The Sopranos," but on those few occasions I did see the show I was impressed with the cast. Being married to a New Jerseyite I had heard the lore of "the Mob" and how it was a part of life in the state of New Jersey. What little I saw of the show certainly gave credence to the stories I had heard.

Before his portrayal of the New Jersey crime Boss, Gandolfino had a fine career as a character actor. The "Sopranos" elevated his renown far beyond that of excellent character actor. He became a star! I don't know if he would have ever would have been allowed to return to the role of effective and successful character actor again, but we will never know .... his life was cut to short for us to know. He was lucky to have enjoyed the success that came his way .... and we were lucky to have enjoyed the pleasure of his craft!

What it showed about New Jersey was that a state that has contributed so much to the industrial and technological might of the Untied States is also home to a scourge that we as Americans should wipe out! The life of crime that Toni Soprano represented is a scourge on the American economy and way of life. We should do everything to free our lives from the type of criminal interference that organiztions such a the Sopranos play in our lives. The cost to our well being and pocket books far exceeds that which the government (even I in tax crazy N.J.).

The show displayed how a group of organized, low lifes could effect our pocket books and lives.

To mature audiences, Gandolfini's excellent portrayal of a minor mob boss showed the problem, not a situation to be admired. "The Sopranos" showed the underside of a great state just as "the New Jersey Shore" shows the petty indolence of a group of New jersey losers.

I hope you choose you role models from a better source of T.V. fare!

Never said he was a roll model but everything else in this state is horrible. That show to me at least was the only thing New Jersey had that was any good for TV shows or movies. Other wise how does something i say you spin around? Its like you look for trouble.

The ironic thing is, everyone that died on the show is still alive.

The great part of that show was how it developed the family lives of the members. One of the first times a mob show showed home lives.

He seemed to be quite a good actor, but was probably destined to be type-cast the rest of his career. Now we will never know which is a shame.

I guess it does resolve the question of what happened in the diner in the last scene, if they do a movie. I'll bet those guys were indeed hit men now!

Since you said died and not killed on the show, I will add an exception,Tonys mother Livia played by Nancy Marchand

As long as I'm making corrections, Mr. Gandolfini was 51 years old when he passed.

Ah, yes. Tony's mom. OK, "killed".
She actually outlived herself on the show as they used old clips to make new scenes after she passed.

One of the episodes featured A trip down memory lane. Tony's father had a light blue Firemist Eldorado 1966 with the light blue leather interior. Gorgeous car.

Paulie Peanuts always drove Caramel Eldorado

    Big Tony had an Escalade.

Big ***** had a Burgundy late 90's Deville

Cadillacs are the preferred ride for TV gangsters.

I guess you could say the Cadillac is the choice of small time Mafia guys! But that has been known to the residents of New Jersey since at least the 1950's. The wise guys from Philly and Northern NJ used to really stand out when they had their meetings in my wife's hometown of Woodstown, NJ.

Except for Johnny Sack & Phil. Never really liked them, anyway.

Also, cousin Tony drove a mid-70's Eldo.
