    New to forum 88 Eldorado

Hey guys, so I'm a new Cadillac owner. My grandfather was a Cadillac fanatic and he passed away in 2004. Since then my grandmother always kept the 88 Eldorado running, hoping to one day give it to me. After screwing around for 5 years after high school, I joined the Air Force and was injured in Iraq. I came home in December and am taking ownership of the Eldorado. Unfortunately my grandmother let it sit for about 4 years. Currently it starts with starting fluid and dies but I'm assuming that's because the gas is crap. I put a new battery in it so far and that's it. She said it leaks into the passenger floorboard so I'm assuming that's the heater core lines gone to hell. and I'll be working on that as soon as I can get it running. I'm looking to get it up in tip top shape to use as my daily driver as well as my car audio shop's demo car. The stereo will be retarded amazing.

Anyway, any tips are appreciated, I'm here to learn, and any questions regarding car stereo for any of your Cads can and will be answered by me no problem at all. I have access to many parts distributors as well as identification info on your vehicles so please feel free to ask or even meet up for any info. My name's Drew and it's great to be here.

    and thanks for your service.

Probably is bad gas, but you might check fuel pressure just to rule out the fuel pump. Look down into the TB while someone cranks it. If you see (and hear) the two injectors pulsing, the pump is working.

Drew, honored to have you with us!
Grandpa was a Cadillac man, Grandma valued it enough to preserve it for you, and you are an injured Vet!
I love your family, sounds like you were "raised right".

I look forward to getting to know you!

Oh wow thanks a lot man. Yea I'm a Cadillac person through and through. Really excited about getting the Eldorado to its former glory and beyond. Money isn't as available as it used to be (wife's pregnant with our first) but I should be able to get her all she deserves with time.

Welcome! Nice story, I too got my grandfather's Cadillac. It was sitting for about 6 years before I got it. I had to replace brake lines, fuel, and filters and fix a bunch of leaks from old dried out gaskets as well as buy new tires as they were dry rotted and flat spotted. Check those things. Treasure the car and remember why you have it. People give me a lot of crap for my ole caddy but when I tell them what it means to me they usually understand.

Oh and sorry about being named Drew! Hang out for a while and you will get that joke :P

The 88s with the 4.5 V8 are solid, reliable cars that will go for several 100000s of miles with routine maintanence. Let's see some pics of your new beauty!

Thanks a lot man. My grandfather meant a lot to me. He was in the Korean War and taught me a lot. I enlisted to try and make a better life for my wife and I, and because I wanted to pay my grandfather back for his service. This place is really cool.

wow, that's a nice Caddy. There have been many bad things said about the GM products from the 80's and 90's. Although I don't agree with all of them, I admit I am influenced by them. That's why I always think twice before I praise a product from that era . But that's about to change because those cars are becoming real classics. Your Eldo is already one. Looking forward to see Your restoration process. Best wishes from Europe.

Thats a good lookin Eldo, glad to see another person with a unappreciated 86-91 join.
Fuel pumps dead, the ethanol in the gas wrecks havok on electric fuel pumps once the gas goes bad from sitting.
