nice looking eldorado. seems to be well optioned (has the UX1 stereo and leather wheel). Got any more pics of that beauty?

I will say, the redesigned downsized cars (circa 1990) have been growing on me lately. Although they may not be the most inspired cars, they are cool looking in their own right and with some mods can be good performing cars.

Re: New to forum 88 Eldorado

I was working selling Olds when those were introduced and the fit and finish on them were miles ahead of the GM norm for those days.

I hated the Cadillac models only out of selfish spite. I hated what they represented, the end of the large imposing Cadillacs that I had grown up with. I loved them in the Olds or Buick models, but felt that Cadillac had given up the entirety of their brand by going small, and knew it was a foreshadowing of a dark period for full size luxury car drivers.

I have now found myself carefully watching CL ads for cars just like you beautiful example!

Yes. Not only those days - plus or minus 10 years.

That's a nice looking '88 Eldorado, it's tough to find one in that condition nowadays. Cool story too. My grandpa always drove Hondas, so I feel sort of honored in a sense to sell them. I know where you're coming from.

The fit and finish on those was about as good as my 05 equinox, except the equinox's interior materials are textured hard plastic, painted hard plastic, and more hard plastic, while those cars had lots of "soft touch plastic" in them.

Drop that tank, flush that old gas out of there, get a new fuel pump and strainer, and a new fuel filter. It sounds like more work than it really is, and will result in a reliable car. Also do you have any service records? If not do the usual new belt, hoses, plug wires, plugs, pcv, air filter, oil change with new filter. Also VERY IMPORTANT check the condition of the coolant, it would be best to drain it, flush, new thermostat, and new coolant additive from GM. That engine needs the coolant additive to prevent corrosion of the head gaskets.

That car is worth taking care of, and with proper service will be just as reliable as a new car.

    Thanks for joining!

Any recommendations on fuel pump? I'm a big fan of Walbro pumps and have used them quite regularly. I'll investigate to see if there's a kit for the Eldo but my budget is pretty low now, someone stole a lot of electrical tools out of my current DD. Hurts pretty bad lol.

Post your question up in the Eldo/Seville subforum. You'll probably get an answer faster up there.

No fancy/high flow pump kits available or necessary for your car. It uses a pump/level sending unit assembly inside the tank. Take a look on www.rockauto.com .
