Re: First car= 2000 Cadillac DeVille
Most case halves just weep and if your's is the case halves and doing so you can live with it for awhile, mines wept for a long time but when i had the engine rebuilt i had the whole engine resealed as well. Again, get her up in the air and take the time to do a thorough inspection to determine the leak point. Not trying to scare you, the Northstar is a hell of an engine and will provide alot of happy miles on the road, but like any 10+ yr old car its going to need maintenance and replacements it's just that this is a luxury vehicle with a ton of options, and like any luxury car, the more options the more parts their is to degrade and/or need replacing. Again, you gotta have a deep love and pockets for these Cadillacs
by the way

Re: 2000 cadillac deville concerns
Please do not double post. I'll merge your two posts.
The leak may be the oil pressure switch or the oil filter adapter. Can't swear to it, but I thought GM had the halfcase seal taken care of by 2000. Mine is dry.

Re: 2000 Deville concerns
Also I got it for 5820$
that is WAY too much for a base Deville with 130K miles -
with oil leaks - suspension warning lights - and blown speakers -
learn how to pull the codes - and see what else you are in for -
RETURN IT - and find another car -
let me guess - you got it from Gary Lange?
I just punched up Deville in craigslist for the nw suburbs -
here is a black 2000 Deville with 127K - for $3488
white 2000 Deville - 123K - for $5000
a 2002 for $4000
and here is a 2000 Deville with 101K for $5000 -
and an 05 with 99K - WITH A 3 MONTH WARRANTY - for $5999
maybe the best one of all -
an 01 - with 96K - for $3900 -
here is an 02 - DHS model - with 82K miles - for $5800 -
there are a lot of them out there -
now go find a GOOD one -

Re: 2000 Deville concerns
Absolute dealer top dollar in the DC metroplex area for this car in excellent mechanical condition is $3560. That's for a perfect, inspected, emissions-compliant (federal law) car.
Top dollar off someone's front lawn with NO guarantees, in visual excellent condition, is $2635.
You got stung, and stung bad. www.kbb.com .............. I'm not saying that Kelley Blue Book is the only used car pricing guide around - but they've been around longer than I have, so they must know something.
.............. basscatt's post ^^^ ............... Most car sellers on Craigslist fall into the category of "Beautiful Dreamer".
The picture of the engine compartment - that's why the Korner Kar Korral has a volume deal with a local shadetree detail shop ............ engine compartment renewal spray is cheap.

5300 is way too much for the car in its condition. I'd return it and get a different one. It needs alot of work (suspension and oil leaks are not cheap on these)
