Went out to my yard today.

Found this for my Talisman.

It has rust, but is solid through and through. I was hitting it so hard with screwdriver I was afraid I'd dent it.
Spent today chipping out caulk and getting rear window out. Tomorrow I hope to get back and cut it out.
Not as good as I would hope for, but cheap, available, and lets just say....I won't have to cut mine out to install new one!
So basically better than bondo!

I may even grab the truck too. mine is dented and has rust so just rust is an improvement.:histeric:

Also spotted this 69-70 in decent shape but missing door threshold moldings and the washer wiper pod on door.

(...at least it is now....)

Actually that is why I have so many different shots from all over the yard. After grabbing your and my parts and prepping my work for tomorrow I walked to every white car they had. No luck.:nono:

I can't even imagine what shipping a windshield to Italy would be like!:bighead:

Well, up early again today to work on my parts car again.
Finally got the rear window bottom and trunk lid removed and bought!
Was working with only an old B & D VersaPak jigsaw so it was slow going!

Here is the old girl who gave it up for my Sally to live on....RIP....

This is the bounty she yielded. Only northern guys will understand why this is an upgrade!:histeric:

My compliments to the roomy XC 60 service loaner....

Don't forget the trunk lid to replace my dented one. (Looked like someone forcefully shut mine on oversized load.) Mine actually has about as much rust or more than this one does....

All in all, three days, about 5 hours total time, and $105.50 spent.
Also met the guy who is responsible for them keeping all the old Cadillacs in the yard. A fellow Cadillac owner. I gave him the web site address and told him to check us out! Life is good.

Dave, nice haul. cant wait to see you work on the talisman some more.

too bad you arent here though. theres a rust free 74 trunk lid on a black coupe here

as for me,
went junkyarding
saw this in the lot

saw this obliterated silverado

and this.....same color scheme as my old 91 cutlass cruiser SL....this one was optioned a little better though- had the rally pack gauges with the tach and leather (?) seats...although it only had the 3.1 instead of the 3.3. Unfortunately, they don't sell cars, else this one would have come home with me.

I think that's the car from Serial Mom lol. If not John Hughes best work, perhaps his most hilarious and morbid. I think Beverly Sutphtin was driving a Celeberty wagon, but I swear it was the same color with the woodgrain sides in which she mowed down her son's math teacher for suggesting that her son was messed up in the head and needed therapy because of his obession with horror and slasher flicks.

That's just how I roll....:cool2:

....besides, I may be the next guy to need one!

I know what you mean though, I guess if you love cars, and love the hobby, there isn't even a thought to do it any other way.
It wasn't a decision I made, it was just the way to do it?:noidea:

There would be no fun in smashing it. It hurt me deeply to have to cut into such a good example (for around here) for my part.:ill:

yup...I feel bad when I have to break a part (usually due to some idiot messing it up already so it won't come off so I can get to what I need.)
case in point....I had to get a twilight sentinel sensor for a member. the caddy had a cracked up dash top that I had to remove to get to the sensor. It also had a majorly messed up steering column that I couldnt drop to get my screwdriver in the screw above the speedo. It also had a club on the wheel that made it so I couldnt remove the dash top over the wheel. Ended up having to take a prybar to the dash top to get it off.

----------

I feel the same way, it kinda hurts and tugs at your heart to seen an old Caddy in the bone yard, i 'll find myself patting it on the hood saying thanks for the part(s) when i visit
I don't have time for that. I'd be patting all the caddys in the yard :)

I'm the same way at the junkyards. I look at these cars and remember that once upon a time, they were all shiny and new and someone's pride and joy. They're not anymore, but they're still giving service by donating needed parts to their counterparts that are still on the road. So, I show them the respect of dismantling them as carefully as possible.

Yes, I'm wierd about cars. Sue me.

Same here....that's how I KNOW....:nono:

I actually find it funny to go to the casino. The only place you go with bright blinking lights and lots of noises and excitement, where the people look like prisoners of war. Never a smile to be found. All hunched over shoulders and gloomy faces.

So I am hoping to go Saturday, Luke. Long ago, when I had a different job, I had a boss. We still talk. Her daughter needs some parts, my half-brother needs some, a friend of mine needs some, because he drives a Chevrolet and it literally broke into pieces from me merely lightly touching it...

Saturday, I am hoping.

Not me. I'm always fine there. Or as happy as I ever really look. Never gambled...but I spend a lot of time there. In Vegas, keeping up with the business I get into, you have no choice. Even mundane activities, such as going to see a film, usually require walking through the Casino. Every building keeps the Casino alone, on e the bottom floor for a reason, you know.

I'd imagine. Florida is the official home of the elderly, and 90s Cadillacs are a quite popular choice with them.

If you do happen to get to the yard at some point, I would much appreciate your checking around

I never like seeing Caddies in yards. I'm always careful to not bust up anything else, because someone else (maybe me) might need it, and I hate finding a part I need that is busted up.

I also have this weird habit of absolutely having to shut the doors. 1, it leaves the poor car exposed, IMHO, and 2, I'm that guy who likes to sit in the car to see what it was like. The STS in the yard I visited had really comfy seats :cloud9:

I forgot my phone, but when I got a new bracket for my sun visor, there was an incredible 63-64 CDV in the local yard. And while the paint was long gone in some places, there was NO rust anywhere. The trunk even looked incredible! If only I was out of school.
I too shut the doors. Makes it easier to walk through the yard :) Kinda funny story: Last time I went, it was raining, so I was looking for a in intact car to climb into. I got in and shut the doors on a z34 lumina. They I saw that someone had ripped out both of the interior door handles. I called my dad, who was many cars away riding out the storm, and had him let me out.

Last time I was at the junkyard I was getting an EGR valve for my girlfriend's Malibu. I noticed that the serial numbers were different then what I'd written down, so I pulled out my phone to compare them. It started downpouring, so I found an old Chevy conversion van with both front doors still on it and jumped inside. That was a pretty comfy spot to compare numbers, and afterwards I found the original owner's manual and flipped through that. It was only when I went to leave did I notice the guy at the back of the van taking the bumper off... :yup:

And Luke, I haven't been to my local yard in a month or two. Maybe this week when I'm off I'll cruise up and see if there are any fender skirts available. :D
