    I'm not sure what Garlits had, but I've seen some clutches come apart.
    A friend of mine lost half his leg in a van with a stick. UGLY!

    You're right. I think it was the clutch that sawed off his foot.

    after a few test runs I've got a best time of 10.74 @ 126 mph
    this was at the local airfield so no track prep.
    still more tuning to do
    had the shift light set to 5000rpm which I think is way to high for a stock engine, so probably getting valve float


    stock 68 472 engine
    powerglide
    2.73 gears
    33/10.50/15

    I suppose THAT could be remedied - but what technology couldn't send you is the tremor through the ground as it leaves the line!

    Caddy was the engine of choice (just ask Sydney Allard) back in the 50's, even in street rods (anyone else remember "Black Widow", the caddy engined T-bucket?) What I've never understood is how/why they became so readily available.
